Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

I used to know a poster on here called Redleg, nice guy I wonder what happened to him

His wife bought him a pair of slippers, they had a fire place installed and he now sits on the sofa on cold winter Sunday arvos sipping hot cocoa and staring at the flames. Same goes for a young lad known as Finks. The TBO canteen is is a financially parlous state because it overbudgeted on its hot dog supplies. Coincidentally, the local hospital is reporting a dramatic downturn in food poisoning cases this year.

[Only joking guys - the canteen does a great job and we highly recommend it around here]

For the regular Sandy watchers, why isn't Neville getting a game in the seniors? We've only got 10 melbourne players in our senior team and he is regularly named in the best for the 2nds. I guess he's probably gone at the end of the year.

You would assume so being he still can't break into the 1st team.

Heath is a great kid. He was stricken with OP last year (his first) and the club is treating this as his first REAL year.

It's not easy to get out of the 2nds at Sandy - ask Michael Newton!

I hope they give him a go. He's gutsy and worth perservering with.

For those who have enquired about VFL Finals – Player eligibility rules, they're complicated and this is what I've been able to decipher:-

First week of the finals

Selection is open for VFL clubs i.e. the make-up of the 12 AFL listed players is entirely at the discretion of the respective clubs. The only stipulation is that aligned clubs can only select a maximum of 12 AFL listed players and a minimum of 10 VFL players.

The exception to this rule is Geelong, which can include as many AFL listed players as it wants.

Remainder of the finals

For all clubs whose AFL club did not make the finals the 12/10 rule applies. Geelong can include their rookies in their 10 VFL players.

For all clubs whose AFL club is participating in finals on the same or consecutive days, selection in terms of AFL games is unrestricted but the 12/10 rule remains in force for all clubs except Geelong.

VFL clubs can select AFL listed players who have played 7 VFL games regardless of how many AFL games they have also played in the season. Geelong is the only club where this rule doesn’t apply. If the AFL Cats are out of the finals, the VFL Cats can select AFL listed players who have played 7 VFL games, but no more than 12 AFL games.

Basically that means that after week 1 the only MFC listed players eligible are -

  • BIZZELL, Clint
  • BODE, Jace *
  • BUCKLEY, Simon
  • DUNN, Lynden
  • FERGUSON, Ryan
  • GARLAND, Colin
  • HAYES, Daniel *
  • HUGHES, Daniel *
  • JAMAR, Mark
  • JOHNSON, Chris
  • NEAVES, Shane *
  • NEVILLE, Heath
  • NEWTON, Michael
  • PICKETT, Byron
  • WARNOCK, Matthew
  • WEETRA, Isaac
If Ben Holland finds himself in the reserves next week then he will also be qualified.

For the record that meant sitting on the bench for the Sandy Reserves at 11.10am next Saturday morning at TBO to get him qualified but you're right it's somewhat academic now.

10.20am Bazza. It's a TV game. I know you won't want to mis any of the reserves action.

Just back from the reserves game (I'm off for an afternoon of culture and art soon) and the Reserves' season virtually ended with defeat at the hands of North Ballarat, one of the club's rivals for a finals place. It was a depleted reserves team with at least four and possibly five of the seelcted side out including Melbounre listed player Heath Neville. They struggled early and then got ahead by a point with the first two goals but they were outclassed for almost all of the next two quarters before mounting a comeback of sorts late in the third term and in the first half of the last quarter. Unfortunalty, the Roosters kicked away at the end and that was it.

Daniel Hayes looked pretty classy but Isaac Weetra was out of the play for most of the game. Each kicked a goal but they are still very much in their development stages.

A reasonably good crowd of Demon supporters are on hand and I saw some players in the crowd as well. James Frawley was there early (obviously catching up on some of his old North Ballarat mates) but I also saw Colin Garland walking around the boundary about half an hour before the game so I would suggest he's not playing.

Edit: Quarter time sees the Zebras trailing by 14 points after some inaccuracy in front of goal.

    DEPTH CHARGE by Whispering Jack

The jubilation on the coach’s face as he danced a celebratory jig by the playing bench after the final siren sounded to record his team’s four-point victory over the Demons when the teams last met, said it all.    On that rainy Friday night at the Adelaide Oval, Ken Hinkley’s young midfield secured much more than four points on offer. The victory over one of the big dogs of the competition after a succession of wins over some of its lesser lights gave his team respect and validation fo

    HIBERNATING by KC from Casey

When they locked up the rooms for summer at the end of last year’s football season, the rooms gathered cobwebs, the atmosphere became dense and the place developed a sleepy feel. They opened up the rooms to let Casey out to play on Sunday but the team was still hibernating and they missed the bulk of the opening quarter. By the time they worked out it was game on, their opponents from Box Hill had accumulated five goals and, if the game wasn’t over, it might as well have been. For a se

A FORK IN THE HAWK by George on the Outer

For too long in the past, Demon fans became habitually sick and tired of watching the Hawks hand out thrashings to their side. But Melbourne’s empahtic 55-point win at the MCG on Saturday has truly put a fork in the Hawk and turned that history well and truly on its head. The Demons have now won nine of their last ten encounters with the other result, a draw.     And like a fork, it was the multi-pronged options that Melbourne had all across the ground.  It certainly helped that Hawthorn
