Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

I wonder how the records of the prospective coaches stack up? When we appointed ND, he had been an assistant to Sheedy (played a large role in the 1993 premiership by cracking Carlton's centre square strategy) and Neesham (helping to establish the Dockers). He had been involved in premierships. I am looking at the current lot and the most commonly mentioned are Bond, Ratten, McKenna, as well as a couple of more experienced and well known identities in Sheedy and Connolly. The records of the three assistants really isn't that flash. McKenna is in his fourth year at Collingwood and the Pies have not been very successful in that time ( finishes of 13, 15 and 7 in completed seasons). He was also an assistant at WCE in the Judge era ( hopeless) and coached Claremont in the WAFL without much success.

Ratten seemed to develop a reputation assisting at Melbourne in 2004, but I really wonder how successful he was - we lost five consecutive games at the end of that season and our midfield was pretty soft - hence the decision to go after Moloney. He coached in the EDFL (Norwood made the GF last year) and then back to Carlton to this year. Once again, not a very successful involvement.

Bond first coached in 2001 at Werribee and they made the finals in 2002. From then on was Peter Rhode's match day assistant and has since worked under Eade. In that time only one finals appearance (last year). Bond has little playing experience in terms of finals, while Ratten and McKenna played in 3 flags between them in the early 90's.

Two of the three were overlooked by the Saints last year. I keep coming back to the view that Sheeds is our man. Involvement in a flag far more recently than any of these current assistants; a huge profile; and aura that can't be disputed and a record to rival the greats. He still has the fire in the belly. I've heard some people say he would be a risk. I believe he would be a much safer bet than taking the punt on an untried rookie who really doesn't have a lot of substance in their CV.

Nice background check.

I think Bond would still be a very good coach. I don;t particulary want him though.

I Believe Ratten is the sort of bloke who can lift a team with his attitude and a few rousing words.

I am a bit turned off buy McKenna, his attitude to missing out on Saints job and lacklustre attitude to our particular job. He would take anything. Makes me think twice. Then again. Malthouse is a terrific teacher. And McKenna was a terrific footy brain.

Sheedy is the choice.

May not be the best choice, but is the choice. He is the choice because the selection comitee will be in total shock right now that he could coach us. There is very little chance he will not be offered the job. My personal choice to coach us was Todd Viney. I think it's apparent he will not coach us next season unfortunately.

I do not believe McKenna or Ratten will get the job. It's a 3 way race right now. Bond, Sheedy, or Sumich.

Great Comments both of you. Yeah I liked the look of Todd Viney myself (Melbourne Blood Factor) but yes, doesn't look like he'll be even close.

I don't think Bond would be a good option, along with McKenna.

Sumich & Sheedy would be good. I personally would select Sheedy for a 3 year term & have Sumich under him for that period. Then obviously Sumich would take over the reigns after that.

Im hoping Sheedy with Viney as understudy.

That ain't gonna happen. I believe Viney has already put pen on paper to stay at the Hawks for the next few seasons.

McKenna put pen to paper with colling wood to. He has an extension. They let them go when oppo arrives.

Plus Viney interviewed a week ago so it could.

My personal pick would be Alan Jakovich but that's me dreaming... Haha...

I think Demon Disciple meant that we've got no chance of getting Viney as an assitant coach in any shape while he is contracted to HFC. Different story if we appoint him senior coach

It's interesting how the Age has framed the market for the Melbourne job -

$2.50 - any other person

$4.00 - Guy McKenna

$4.50 - Chris Bond

$6.00 - Chris Connolly

$6.00 - Damien Hardwick

Sheedy seems to have been included in the any other person category. Why?

On Sportingbet, there is no mention of Sheedy, Hardwick or Ratten other than "any other person". Can't understand why when Harvey has odds quoted.

I don't think there is any great conspiracy in it though other than maybe not wanting to quote decent odds.

Its because they keep the same options from when the market was opened (before Sheedy got sacked). All the names listed were the most likely at the time. Any other person includes Sheedy, which is why its the shortest odds

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
