Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Say No To Sheedy

Folks, MFC Members must unite and say no to Sheedy. He has proven over 27 years to be a self-serving, attention seeker and at nearly 60 does not represent the future of football or the MFC.

His coaching record is totally over-rated.

At the turn of the century he was supposedly coaching the greatest side of all time yet got only one flag out of them.

In 1986 the Essendon side was virtually the Victorian side yet he couldn't get them the flag.

The "Baby Bombers" went backwards after their 93 flag.

Two or three years ago Essendon was a basketcase with blokes like Cupido and Zantuck running around for them. Sheedy has a long history of recruiting loose cannons and trying to turn them around. It's low percentage stuff and a waste of time.

The good thing is that Garry Lyon hates Sheedy. If Lyon still has any clout then we can be safe in the knowledge that Sheedy won't be anywhere near the MFC.

Don't quite agree with everything you have said there Bluey, but you do make some reasonable points.

Agree he has made a few diabolical trade / drafting decisions.

I don't see him as a self serving sort of bloke......I think most of what he has done is pretty genuine and he has done it because of a love for the game, and also the Bombers.

The tough thing in all this is can he still coach? That's what I'm most concerned with.

If the Bombers miss the September action this year, that's 3 years in a row. Is he losing his magic?

Sheeds has coached for 27 years. 20 of those seasons have been in a Natonal Competition where interstate sides have many advantages not enjoyed by the Victorian Clubs. He has won 4 premierships, been runner up on another 3 occasions, played in prelim finals in 1989, 1996 and 1999. His team has missed the finals only seven times (8 if you count this season). He has had only 3 seasons with a less than 50 percent win loss record. 2006 was not a great year for Essendon (3 and a half wins), but they have already won 9 this year and I'm betting they win at least 2 more. That is some improvement in 12 months. To belittle that record proves only that you have very little comprehension of how hard it is to succeed in the modern game. In the last 15 years, 10 premierships have been won by interstate sides. Of the 5 Victorian flags, 2 have been won by Sheeds. That says it all.

Bring him to Melbourne!

It was all over the media a couple of months ago, champ.

Not true at all.

Lyon said that Sheedy and Essendon should part company, not that he hated Sheedy or that Sheedy was a bad coach.

In fact, he's since stated publicly, more than once, that we should get Sheedy to Melbourne. He'll be pushing his case strongly.

If the Lions don't make the finals thats 3 years for them too! Is Matthews losing his magic? Don't think so! It's cyclical. The aim is to make the cycle as short as possible. The Bombers are heading upwards again. They'll probably miss the finals but they are heading in the right direction, as are the lions. We are moving further away atm!

No it wasn't. He said that the message gets old after a while, and Sheedy should not get recontracted. Doesn't mean Lyon thinks he's no good. In fact, 'all over the media' recently he's been saying the complete opposite.

I was doing nothing more than playing devils advocate......hence the "is he losing his magic?" line.

My opinion on the matter is pretty simple.......I want the best coach, not the best promoter.

If it's deemed to be Sheeds, then I will do cartwheels....I think he would be awesome for the club...........if not, I'll support the coach deemed to be the best option.

Winning games of football is what it's all about. I want a coach best equipped to deliver that!

Gotta look forward not back. Those 27 years are gone. Sheedy has passed his used by date. No other club would want him so why should we?

I completely disagree with your anti - Sheedy stance. We the MFC have been far to soft & toffie for decades & now finally it seems that the club is listening to what people have been saying, media people & members/supporters. We the MFC can learn a lot from a 3 or so year stint with Sheeds coaching our players & our future coaches. We can also learn from his professional management styles & off field strategies. But the biggest thing to change is the culture that leaves our players thinking that they're better than what they are, near enough is good enough.

His coaching record is totally over-rated. Ooooh yeah...dem 4 premierrships... ..bought 'em at kmart didnt he !!

At the turn of the century he was supposedly coaching the greatest side of all time yet got only one flag out of them. year 2000...won a premiership against???? lol

In 1986 the Essendon side was virtually the Victorian side yet he couldn't get them the flag. burn him burn him!!

The "Baby Bombers" went backwards after their 93 flag. Notice that word ...."flag".. its keeps popping up in his career

Two or three years ago Essendon was a basketcase with blokes like Cupido and Zantuck running around for them. Sheedy has a long history of recruiting loose cannons and trying to turn them around. It's low percentage stuff and a waste of time. He's lateral, comes off many times, sometimes it doesnt. Unlike our great track record

The good thing is that Garry Lyon hates Sheedy. If Lyon still has any clout then we can be safe in the knowledge that Sheedy won't be anywhere near the MFC. On the basis of what exactly do yo come up with this gem ?? please enlighten us...please !!

all one needs in the facts:

27 years:

22 finals series.

a grand final every 5 years.

a premiership every 6.5 years.

Melbourne: no premiership since 1964 (43 years ago)...

sheedy may not be the answer, but the truth is that most coaches would always prefer to coach other clubs that are better financed, beter run and with stronger membership. it doesnt come along often that a champion coach is available for the taking. an assistent coach of the calibre of Guy Mckenna or Todd Viney will ALWAYS be available every time u go looking for a coach. on the other hand, a coach like sheedy comes across a team like melbourne once in a generation. for that reason i think we should take him.

other positives:

MFC is quickly becoming the least respected club in the afl. we have poor membership, poor sponsorship and bad finances. we are in desperate need for someone who can change the culture of the club, but also the way people view it. sheedy will bring rediclous marketing and sponsorship and will put MFC back in peoples minds.

Also, he is a great coach.

Negative:

The only negative i see in sheedy, is that recently some of his recruiting has been dubious. wat was he thinking drafting campeale, heffernan and cole? why does bolten still get a game and a few draft stuff ups as well (he can be forgiven for K.Bradley bc he was very highly rated at the time and wasnt a shock decision).

However his drafting last season saves him for mine. Essendon was by far the best performed team in the 2006 draft so it proves he hasnt lost it!

essendon got: gumbleton (future star CHF), leroy Jetta (a steal pick at 20 a very good pick), Hislop (a big steal again, rated extremeyl highly by all in the know), A.Davey (star pick), Bachar Houli (great pick up low down, looks classy to me) and a speculative pick (Reimers) as well.

His drafting from this display looks promising.

i reckon we go for him. let's be honest, sheedy will definitely leave MFC in a better place in started if he was given a go. can u say the same for other coaches?

Not sure about who we are going to get, but the winning candidate is going to have to have a big boot because he is going to have to kick a lot of backsides and many of those out the door, someone with the gravitas of a Sheedy I feel is essential, I don't think we need someone to learn on the job because we are a basket case and the job is TOO BIG

I never wanted Kevin to coach Melbourne at all.

Remember he hates our team and we have been Rivals.

My dad hates the guy and he could be trying to get our job just so he could get some money and kill us off.

I think we would be better going for another coach who won't cost so much so we can save money like a coach who hasn't coached in AFL before.

Chris Bond has coached Werribee for 2 years in the past.

Even a Guy Mckenna wouldn't cost too much compared to Sheddy.

Chris Bond Earned a reputation as a tenacious on-baller in 163 games between 1990 and 1999 for Carlton, Richmond and Fremantle. Won his first coaching role with Werribee in 2001 and after leading the Tigers to the 2002 finals, he was promoted to a full-time position with the Bulldogs.

Viney would be ok as well.

We need a tough ex-midfielder who knows what it takes to play and reach a GF. Guy 'Red & Bluey' McKenna should be our man, no 'The Pensioner'. Sheedy's doing would only do it for his own self-interest and ego, so by that, I don't want any ex-Essensdon filth coming round our way. Let's go for invigorating youth not some tired 27 year old dross.

Ummmm every club without a coach wants him, and some with a coach want him ie. Richmond

I do not know if Sheedy is the best coaching possibility.

But he did say something when Hutchie quickly interviewed him outside Steve Harris' house that got me excited about the prospect of sheeds at the dees.

When asked what he can bring to the MFC. He said "a bit of spirit....... bit of togetherness".

Couldn't some up what we need any better.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh

It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
