Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Neitz, Green back this week. Bell & Bruce to miss again

Here's my 5 cent's worth -

Out: Davey,

In: Neitz (Bell if Neitz not fit)

That leaves, Neitz, Robbo, Miller, PJ, White, Garland, Frawley, Carroll, Bizzell, Dunn and Newton all in the team. we will run out of legs by qtr time.

Have to bring in one of Moloney, Green or Bruce in. Just goes to show how moronic Davey's actions were. any thought of leadership group status should be thrown out the door. we're in strife already and then he goes and settles a gripe of his, at the expense of the team. Bruce, McLean, and Macca often get tagged, but they never do such stupid things. hope the club rip into him.

Classy,

Davey was not leadership material prior to that anyway. His immaturity during the elimination final lasy year proved that.

Moloney still cant run out a VFL game and given what he has been through, I would not risk him. If Green and Bruce are not fit, I would consider playing Heath Neville. We may as well see what he is like.

Ins - Holland, Neitz, Bruce

Outs- Davey (susp), Garland, Buckley.

Neitz was a test last week, so should be right to go. Just stick him in the goal-square if he's only 70%. The kids need the skipper out there.

Bruce should be right to go, considering he only just failed a fitness test last Friday.

Big Bad Benny Holland has kicked multiple goals in the magoos the last fortnight, so deserves a promotion. Give him the job on Petrie or create a mis-match in our forward line.

Davey obviously out.

Garland's too raw.

Buckley's had a taste for 2 weeks. Back to the VFL for some solid game time.

Think they'll give Moloney 1 more week in the 2's.

Garland and Buckley should be kept in the team.

both will be on our list next season and they must develop by players in the seniors. it will hold them in good stead for next year. this year is shot, the focus should be developing the likes of buckley and garland!

one change for me...

out: davey

In: Bruce (if 100% fit)

Green, Bell and Neitz can have one more weeks break. no need to rush them back at all. Moloney should play 2 more game for sandy working up to 80% game time and then to come back and play the last 5 games of the year to get him cherry ripe for the preseason and next year.

holland should stay in the ressies so the Miller can have a real opportunity to prove himself as a big bodied defender. We will never know if he could have made it if he doesnt get a proper shot. Holland will be ok, he's a good depth player and will remain on our list as depth next year. Miller must get his go as a defender. its only for our beneifit to see if he's capable of making it at afl level. Same goes with CJ

That one works for me as well........

But the questions stands, what if Bruce hasn't come up yet?

holland should stay in the ressies so the Miller can have a real opportunity to prove himself as a big bodied defender.

Riley basically said that Miller would be given the however many weeks left, to trial as a defender, in the post-match press conference after the Brisbane game.

And as such I can't see him being dropped now, despite what happened in the first quarter last weekend.

can someone just sort this out for me. if nieta comes in this week and plays from here in, when does that make his 300th.

does one more game out mean it would be against the pies????

I'm fairly sure he's on 295 games.

Therefore if he plays this week, he'll play his 300th V Collingwood. What a night and an occassion that will be.

If he misses this week, then he'll play his 300th V Freo at Subi...what a non occassion that will be :o

On that basis I hope they rush him back this week!!

Or do people think they'll rest him for the majority of the season, so he can play his 300th next year, when the season's well and truly alive?

I am fairly hopeful that they won't be rushing him back for anything.......

If he is not fit, and playing will only cause further damage, in a season that is over then honestly I dont see the point.

He will play his 300th just maybe not as soon as we (and he probably) would have hoped.

Just my opinion, of course :) !!!

RR, fwiw i never believed he was and agree with you, i was just commenting on the perception that football department seems to have about his 'leadership ability'. specifically in an "On The Coach" interview with ND last year (i think perhaps even 05) he said that davey was a potential future captain.

Take your point Classy.

I tend to take those sort of answers given in those forums with a sceptical grain of salt.

It all started when Everett was a young feral bogan at StK and after every time if ran amok, the StK executive stressed how they saw him as a future leader. Nothing further from the truth.

Leave him out for 2 more and play it v carlton in round 22, so then we should at least salute on the skippers 300th

Do we really want Neita's 300th game to be remembered in connection with what could be a game dedicated to supertanking?

No, play in the Sandy team that day. Let him play game # 300 v. Collingwood.

Sydney, From what we saw last time, MFC would have to flood away from the ball to stay even (not ahead) of Carlton.

It would be a greater disgrace to play David Neitz at Sandy. He is either fit to play or he is not.

OUT - Davey, Garland

It seems we struggled for options up forward, and Holland gives us someone who will at the least create a contest. Having someone like him down there also means Newton & co get a 'lesser' defender. Holland might not be around much longer, but he's been in good form for Sandy (in the best two weeks ago, kicked 3 on the weekend).

As others have said, Garland is still learning the game. I think Club and player will benefit if he goes back to Sandringham. Riley's flagged Miller's opportunities in defence, so he'll stay in the team. Guys like CJ, and Buckley, to a lesser extent, are further along and should be persevered with.

If Bruce doesn't come up we might need to bring Moloney into the team.

Might as well wrap any blokes that are not 100% fit in cotton wool ready for a big 08.

Blokes like Moloney should get thier bodies right for next year.....

I dont want to tank and i know wants to win as many games so his chance to coach full time increases but honestly it is not in our best interest to win 4 games for the rest of the year and get pick #6 when we could easily play the kids and possibly get pick #1.

Out biggest worry is Carlton. If they dont win a another game they will still pick 1 and Richmond 2... There are only 2 standouts in this years draft..........

Classy,

Davey was not leadership material prior to that anyway. His immaturity during the elimination final lasy year proved that.

Whether or not you agree he was leadership material, he was certainly mooted as a potential captain or vice captain some time ago.

His antics in the Saints final were more or less a first, and his subsequent interview suggested even he was surprised that he'd reacted the way he did. Add to that the fact that in both the Saints final, and on the weekend, he came back on and lifted his team.

If Davey is not leadership material now, it's because perhaps he has something to learn. If EVERY player who misbehaved was disregarded as a future captain, we wouldn't have some of the skippers we have in the league now... Hall being a good example.

Davey's leadership credentials have taken a beating, but he's still going to be in calculations in coming years. You think these 2 matches off aren't going to hurt him as the only player suspended? If you were to take a positive spin, there's even a chance that this may be the making of him. His team needs him now more than ever, and he's the only one to blame.

If people think he's NEVER going to make a leader you're simply scapegoating... and you're small minded.

If people think he's NEVER going to make a leader you're simply scapegoating... and you're small minded.

In order to be a captain/vice captain it is usual that the player should possess and display evidence of on field leadership. Davey may be skilful in bursts but I have not witnessed any significant leadership qualities during his time at MFC. He is immensely popular with supporters (especially kids) but appears rather meek on field.

Davey has also been unable to curb his frustrations in other games beside the St Kilda and Brisbane games. They were just two very bad examples.

It is concerning that Davey would be surprised he acted that way against St Kilda as he is readily upset in games where decisions go against him. His petulant behaviour could have cost us a final and if not the deeds of others we would not have won. He came back and performed when the game was already won.

More importantly his form this year has been poor and his development has plateaued or gone backwards. He struggles in the midfield to win contests and his apologists are saying he should be played in the forward line only. A potential limiter to leadership if ever there was one.

You are right he has alot to prove. Lets just see if he can make it as player with a broader skill set before we anoint him with a role he has shown little capacity for.

For mine, McLean, Bate, Rivers and Jones strike me as more leaders than Davey.

You claims of scapegoating are wrong and the small mindedness may actually be yours.

I don't see why Davey can't be in the leadership group sometime in the future. But I agree it will require him to work on his increasing undiscipline acts.

We all know where Barry Hall has been and where he is now.

As far as team selection is concerned, we have to face the fact that a couple youngsters will be dropped this week.

If fit Bell, Bruce, Green and Neitz all deserve a game. And Riley deserves the oppurtunity to coach them. Assuming all are fit I believe that Buckley, Garland and Newton (although I hope not) could miss. I'd like to think it was Brown, Godfrey and Ward to miss but that just isn't going to happen.

B: Bell, Carroll, Ward

HB: Bizzell, Miller, Frawley

C: Bruce, Green, Wheatley

HF: Bate, Dunn, Sylvia

Those who think he's a forward are Davey 'apologists'?

Oh dear. Hyperbolic.

The Demons are set to regain two senior players – skipper David Neitz and much-improved defender Daniel Bell – for their clash with the Kangaroos at Telstra Dome on Sunday.

Riley said the return of the club captain would no doubt be a huge boost for his young side.

"All his injuries were realistically collision injuries, they weren’t of that age nature or that age bracket so he’s looking great and he’s really keen to go," he said.

"It was a magnificent effort and it was well documented how he got himself up and played in Neale’s last game against the Bombers and he’s now had three weeks off, (he's) really refreshed and really keen to get out there and lead the team."

Midfielder Cameron Bruce will spend another week on the sidelines with a hamstring injury while Byron Pickett is resigned to playing with VFL side Sandringham until his form warrants senior selection.

Based on this information, my revised team is as follows -

B: Frawley, Carroll, Ward

HB: Bizzell, Miller, Bell

C: Dunn, McDonald, Wheatley

HF: Sylvia, Bate, Newton

F: C. Johnson, Neitz, Robertson

FOLL: White, McLean, Jones

I/C: P.Johnson, Godfrey, Buckley, Brown

EM: Garland, Moloney, Holland

IN - Bell, Neitz

OUT - Davey, Garland

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
