Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

GARRY LYON IN THE HUN

We're not travelling the best which is a very nice way of putting our situation at present.

Well we've all known this. Some argue points over here ... some debate over there but when you serve it all up it sorta sounds like this :-

DEES MUST FOCUS ON REBUILDING FOR FLAG

In many ways there's nothing really new in all of this. It just hangs it out on the wash line for all to see in plain view.

Despite what many may or may not think of Garry Lyon, there can never be any misunderstanding that his veins course with blood red and blue. As part of the focus group going forward Im sure he will make it abundantly clear to the incumbants that whilst being careful not to throw any babies out, its time to change the bathwater .

Here we go folks ... we're rebuilding again ....

who da thunk it !! :P

Pretty boring atricle from the guy that has failed to help the club responsible for giving him everything he has today

Hey Gazza, instead of writing crap articles why dont you come down to the club and help out our young forwards?

And we are better than the Hawks, Kangas and Pies, but have been ravaged by injury ...

If you are not winning flags you are always rebuilding.

Our problem had been not biting the bullet quite hard enough. Hawks did and they have a lot of talent/class in the team which should stand them in good stead for quite some time.

We need to prune ruthlessly at the end of this season and top up with some class from the early picks. We already have the basis of a good list with some good young players coming through and some good players who still have a number of years left in their legs.

The biggest numbnuts are those at clubs who fool themselves into believing that the team is one or two good players from a flag - trade top picks to get them - Freo - Tarrant/Solly - Connolly will never get another 'top' job as his thinking is not quite right in this regard or he was not strong enough to stand up to others who wanted to give away picks to get these players -either way - not good.

Smart clubs palm off their talented but flawed players to suckers willing to give up their own clubs future, ie good picks.

How good would the Kangas be if they had of used the picks given up for Hay and Thomson - although Thomo has been good but sadly struck down this year with a knee. This is another example of a typical deal to a sucker.

In summary we are better off not winning any more games, picking up a priority and pruning the list ruthlessly. AND using our picks - not trading them.

Not all of Byron Pickett, Daniel Ward, Clint Bizzell, Holland, Jamar, Nathan Brown and Miller will survive.

Wow! That's insight?

the futures of veterans such as Adem Yze and Simon Godfrey will be discussed.

Yze has a contract for 2008 and is untradable. Godfrey has had his best year and will finish top 5 in the B&F.

Why does he owe the Melbourne Football Club anything? A club played him it in its side, sure, because he was a good player. He got to where he is in entertainment and TV journalism due to the work he started in that area from a young age.

Hey Gazza, instead of writing crap articles why dont you come down to the club and help out our young forwards?

It wasn't a crap article. I thought it was a highly objective and straigthforward article about where we are at as a football club and the position of our current playing list. Some people perhaps are blinded by love of the club insofar as this playing list is concerned.

And we are better than the Hawks, Kangas and Pies, but have been ravaged by injury ...

At the moment we are not. It is a mystery why blokes like Brown, Ward, Holland, Jamar, Miller and Warnock are on the list when they are clearly not up to AFL level football.

you would think they would keep godders

i cant see dutchy warnock, fergie jamar staying

if they cant get into our injury hit side, there not quite right

MFC should keep Matty Warnock as he has good senses as a defender and in case Wheels has another interrupted season on 2008. We need to develop defenders to replace Bizz, Ward, Brown, Dutchy & Miller etc. CJ and Warnock are young and may develop under new coach.

Godders has been a mainstay this year and he and Junior are our only 2 stoppers! Has to be kept.

nothing very insightful or interesting in that article. I think anyone who follows football would agree with nearly everything in that article.

i would like to see brown, ward, holland and jamar delisted. Keep the likes of CJ and Warnock, i think both, although not taking their chances yet, have shown glimpses that they may develop, and have a lot more to offer than the older fringe players.

to toss up godfreys name is ridiculous. I am not the blokes biggest fan, but he has had his best year at the club.

It's an article for the masses, not for Melbourne supporters who take interest in the club outside of match-day.

We could all write better articles, but then Melbourne supporters are far too up-market to be reading the HS to begin with! ;)

"Priorities at the draft should be the best young power forward available and a quality developing ruckman."

Have we not learnt our lesson with Luke Molan, Aaron Rogers, Nick Smith.

Early picks wasted on "the best young power forward".

Our picks should've always been "the best young talent" no restrictions. If it's a big, great. If it's a small. so be it.

Jeez Gaz. Disappointing.

If we are talking about recruiting i have 2 say

KRUZER KRUZER KRUZER!!!

this kid will be huge, he is the kind of player u build teams around of. If we do recruit him he gets about 2 years under the guidence of Jeff White and suddenly our ruck problem is gone!!

Agree that Kruezer is the best option...if he is available. He's been touted as No. 1 pick and I think Richmond have that ties up unless Carlton continue on their woeful ways. There is no way that club is trying to win. How they show so much potential in pre season and early season and then lose the rest of the games. Well, let's just say I'm a little sceptical. Anyway, back to Kruezer...he is the ideal replacement for white when he retires, and pj and jamar being solid back up (neither have the talent to be a no. 1 ruckman at afl level).

i agree kruiser would solve a number of problems.

he is more than capable being a number 1 ruck, but also oculd become a key forward. he is an ideal hight (199cm), not too short for ruckman but still mobile enough for key position.

unfortunately richmond lack severly in the ruck department. pattison is a good youngster and simmonds, but apart from that they have nothing.

they will 100% be picking him up if they get pick 1. so too carlton...it's annoying but true

Probably true. And I'd delist him at year's end. Would you ?

Why?

I would think we may want to keep those that go in hard.

Simon has courage and endeavor.

Plenty dont, but have "style" and look good kicking it.

I would get rid of those that go to ground in a contest... Ward Wheatley Yze.

I would hang on to Godfrey. Plenty of others can go before him. You can rely on him to do his job.

As we are getting a new coach signed for probably say 3 years the list will be slashed ghard this season. A new coach with a lot of new players will be tolerated more by suppporters than would the long serving ND if the season doesnot quite stack up.

I'll tell you why Frankster.

Much like the greatest and most strategic board game in the world - chess, football games are won by the teams that make the least mistakes. Sure, Godfrey has some boxes ticked, as has been recognised on D'Land, and they're plain for all to see, but his weaknesses; ie lack of class, pace, skill, as well as the numerous turnovers, are too detrimental to a team's well being and reduce the chance of his side winning.

Pressure, perceived pressure, tackling, strategies, turnovers, set plays, one percenters, etc, are all designed to cause the opposition to fumble, make poor decisions, poor execution, and allow one's own team to enhance their scoring opportunities. Footy scribes often speak of the best 'team' in the league as opposed to individual brilliance. Great teams work for each other, pressure the opposition into 'mistakes', and capitalise by superior movement of the ball. In essence, the good teams make the least amount of 'mistakes'. It's not measured by the clanger count, but mark my words, the team that wins will have made the least mistakes. The better gameplan will lose if the mistakes are too many.

I'll remember Godfrey as a fine servant of the MFC. A player who eeked out the most of his ability. But going forward, I want to start turning this list over. If it means two steps back and one step forward and closer to the only thing that counts (a flag) then I embrace it. And there's no better time than now. The time of good honest servants is over for me.

Oh, and as for the triumvirate you mention ? I too would free up their careers.

"Financially, they may think they cannot afford to bottom out for too long, but clubs should be in the business of winning flags"

Well, we all learn somethin new every day......keeps your powder dry Garry. Don't overdo it now or you'll have nothing left to offer the board when they ask you who should coach our great club in 08.

Ps: Bullshoy. Welcome back! How long you sticking round for this time?

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
