Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Hmmmmm....backline looks a bit suss.

I'd get rid of Hughes, put Ingerson to full back, and swing Neitz to CHB.

You can then put Jakovich to full forward and put someone like Andy Lovell, Ricky Jackson or Yze in the forward pocket.

Agree with Neitz at CHB, but I'd have Wight at FB and Yze on the HB flank. Willo in the forward pocket!

A very, very good modern team Yze Magic but I could name better ones. eg The teams of 1956, 57, 59. But that's only because I'm old and can go back much further! Seriously though, your team would take some beating. I wish we had it on the field at the present time. Congratulations on your choice and research.

Is that Travis Johnstone that you mentioned as unlucky?

That is a joke. what has James McDonald done wrong? He should be way ahead of Trapper!

So you think Travis should have been in the team?

Overall a very good team YM, just a couple of adjustments though if I may.

Jeff White is easily a better player than Strawbs O'Dwyer, but I'm very happy that you have Glenn Lovett on the bench, he's sometimes forgotten because of his injuries.

Swap Johnson and Grinter around, AJ was always a back pocket player.

Sugar Healy is lucky to get a spot.

If you saw Healy and Flower play can I then assume that you saw Laurie Fowler and Peter Moore play?

Both would definitely make the bench at the very least.

Good topic. I'm a fair bit older than you YM but I'll try to restrict my selections to the era that you'd be familiar with

B Wight Hughes A. Johnson

HB B. Lovett Neitz Grinter

C Tingay Wilson Flower

HF Lyon Schwarz Robertson

F Farmer Jakovich G. Healy

R Stynes Viney Johnstone

Int White Spalding Yze Greg Healy

A few unlucky but I picked the interchange on the basis that firstly, you need a second ruck. Agree with the poster who said White was better than O'Dwyer. Strawbs could mark & ruck but his kicking skills would make Wardy look like Darren Jarman. Yze & Spalding get the nod as they could play both ends & in Yze's case, go into the midfield. Sugar (& Trapper's) selection highlight the fact that we haven't had a rover since Henry Coles.

Would have liked a better full back but Hughes would get a fair bit of support from Wight. Thought Ingo was terrific for Melbourne but Danny shaded him. I also moved Neitz to CHB which allowed the traitorous Healy into a forward pocket where he kicked over 70 goals in successive seasons. Were you around to see him play for Melbourne ?

Sounds like you've been comparatively lucky. You missed the 70's & early 80's. By those standards, 2007 would be a good year !

HF - John Fidge, Croswell, Stewart Gull

Not a bad side at all Biff! I'd have big Danny out and slot Ingo into the last line; Balls Grinter out for Cameron Bruce; Sugar Healy out for the Flash and I reckon JMac might just pinch Yze's spot on the bench. Swooper Northey to coach this team!

wtf? woewodin won a much deserve brownlow in 2000. was a very very good player for us but was let go by salary pressure. i think woey deserves a spot

He had one great year, that's all it takes to win a brownlow. The rest of his career he was mediocre. Hence why he has been playing in the WAFL the last couple years. ;)

Do you realise he lost the 1999 MFC Best and Fairest by 1 vote? He then won the Brownlow and B+F in 2000

Very unlucky not to have back-to-back Blueys

he also finished 7th in the 1998 B+F in just his second season, and was a WA state representative that same year

His 2002 season, his last for the Demons, was pretty good too. Not sure where he finished in the B+F but he did recover from a shocking 2001 to average 20 touches a game

I seem to remember him being one of our best players in the Elimination Final win over the Kangaroos as well

Woey played good footy outside of the 2000 season, dont you worry about that

I just can't understand having a player in your all time team that we traded then collingwood delisted him and no body wanted him. All time club greats don't get delisted.

He was 29 at the time, if he was so good someone would of picked him up. And like I said, 1 great year doesn't make you a great player...

    DEPTH CHARGE by Whispering Jack

The jubilation on the coach’s face as he danced a celebratory jig by the playing bench after the final siren sounded to record his team’s four-point victory over the Demons when the teams last met, said it all.    On that rainy Friday night at the Adelaide Oval, Ken Hinkley’s young midfield secured much more than four points on offer. The victory over one of the big dogs of the competition after a succession of wins over some of its lesser lights gave his team respect and validation fo

    HIBERNATING by KC from Casey

When they locked up the rooms for summer at the end of last year’s football season, the rooms gathered cobwebs, the atmosphere became dense and the place developed a sleepy feel. They opened up the rooms to let Casey out to play on Sunday but the team was still hibernating and they missed the bulk of the opening quarter. By the time they worked out it was game on, their opponents from Box Hill had accumulated five goals and, if the game wasn’t over, it might as well have been. For a se

A FORK IN THE HAWK by George on the Outer

For too long in the past, Demon fans became habitually sick and tired of watching the Hawks hand out thrashings to their side. But Melbourne’s empahtic 55-point win at the MCG on Saturday has truly put a fork in the Hawk and turned that history well and truly on its head. The Demons have now won nine of their last ten encounters with the other result, a draw.     And like a fork, it was the multi-pronged options that Melbourne had all across the ground.  It certainly helped that Hawthorn
