Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Trade or Draft what type of players we need ?

Injurys have stuffed our season, however I think we still lack some things.

WE need players to secure positions instead of the constant changes in and out of the team.

1. We need another tall Defender. (Ferguson, Holland, Wheatly, Bizzell cant secure a position.) Eg. Carroll / Rivers

2. CHF ( Miller works hard but is he the man. )

3. Tall Forward ( our only permanent Targets are Neitz and Robbo )

4. No Injuries ( We would be so much better, if Brock didnt go down and Moloney could play a season without trouble.)

West Coast have consistenly had Judd & Kerr dominate over the last few years.

The reality is, getting rid of 1/2 the team and picking up a Leo Barry, Pavlich or Riewold is not possible.

So what do you think ?

our number 1 priority for trade and draft period must be a ruckman.

i have hope that PJ will be ok as a back up, with the ability to play key position as well...however what are we going to do after white retires. even with white, our ruck division is a liability, when it used to be so strong.

for trade and draft: from most important

1) find a quality future number 1 ruckman!

2) draft a quality k.p.backman. rivers and carrol are our only options, with frawley the only promising up and comer.

3) a crumbing forward. davey is better option as a half forward/wing, and no1 else is a proper crumber. this is an underated, important position.

4) add another quality midfielder

5) add another key forward. this is not critical. we have neitz and robbo arequality. for my mind, bate will hold down c.h.f in years to come. dunn is also quality. newton is a developing key forward

davey has best served in the forward line as a crumbing forward at the feet of neitz and robbo.

putting him in the midfield is a waste of his talents, he is too small and not hard enough, he gets caught out too often when his pace isnt enough to get him out of trouble.

i agree with most here, a ruckman and key forward are the most important.

1) A quality TALL ruckman

2) A quick rebounding defender

3) A key defender

4) A CHF/FF

5) A speedy midfelder

1) Hopefully we finish bottom 2 and get Kreuzer from the Northern Kinghts

2) Already covered with the likes of Petterd and Bartram

3) Need one desperately

4) Need one desperately

5) Not as important as the above

We need

1. Quality tall ruckman over 200 cm

2. Key backman

3. One 'elite'player at least like Goodes, Judd

Forget mentioning more midfielders - you eventually have to say we have enough of one type - we have McLean, Moloney, Jones, Johnstone, McDonald, Sylvias when he strings enough games together.

We also need to stop even thinking about recruiting blokes without a strong build. I can fill that void if needed. We need 18-20 strong bodies with only a few of the slight types. Currently we have Johnstone, Yze, Chris Johnston, Wheatley, Ferguson, White, Bruce, McDonald, Davey to name a few...

We also need to choose blokes we can mould and take orders. Dunn looks a wise herad who can develop other ways to play the game while he works out how to perform as a forward. We need more of this and less like Johnstone who can look great one week but cannot perform a task the next (ever thought of making him tag ??)

Hard to see where the quality will come from as the interstate sides have greater pull from their local markets. massive advantage too.

vic clubs are at a disadvantage and they only way I can see to square the ledger is (a) international recruits from Ireland and (B) father son rule to get priority picks without using top draft choices.

how else can we compete - do not know ?!?!??!

1) Absolutely. I hope they promote Neave at the end of the season, and try and grab another tall ruckman in the draft. Not sure I'd be keen to use a first round pick on a ruckman, not unless they are seriously special. And remember, being tall is not enough. They need to also be mobile and able to either play up forward, or make serious impact around the ground.

2) Bartram, Petterd, Bell, even Buckley can fill that role. Not crucial

3) Lets wait and see what we have with Frawley. I think that if he proves to be as good as we hope, that we'll be ok with Rivers and Carroll as well. Frawley should eventually play FB, with Carroll taking the third tall.

4) Don't let the Newton lovers hear you say that ;)

5) Agreed. We need leg speed, and we need more quality midfielders. You can never have enough players in your side who can use the footy

I would also add to this list, a small crumbing forward and another small defender.

top 2 picks will be cruiser and vespami (?) supposedly

one is a gun ruckman/forward and vespami is a skillful, super quick midfielder/forward

if we finish down this low, id take the ruckman cruiser (will be a cult figure with a name like that anyway) and then load up after that with quick midfielders

In order of preference:

1. A Centre Half Forward

2. A hard running, long kicking half back flanker.

3. A no nonsense, strong tall backman that can share the load down there.

4. Anything we can get for Travis Johnstone

5. Anything we can get for Cameron Bruce.

y would you add this in if you wanted credibility. bruce and johnstone realistically won't be traded, and shouldn't be.

if u were going to mention any senior player...then maaayyybbbbeeee look to trade green (would have very high market value) and miller

We need to use the rest of the year as an opportunity to see who has a future at the MFC and who doesn't. And I don't think Daniher should be making those decisions because he won't be there next year. Begs the question as to how we should manage that situation. We need to play the kids so we can make proper judgements and then decide what type of players we need (even though there are a few obvious ones that have already been mentioned).

Play as many players in a variety of positions for the rest of the year and see who steps up and who doesn't.

But we cannot let Daniher control the process for the rest of the year as he has proven over 10 years he has no imagination and all that will happen is that he will play the same old players in the same old positions following the same old predictable game plan. He will coach for short term success which will be at the detriment of our medium and long term plans.

To prepare for next year we should sack the coach now and bring in someone who will focus on next year and not short term solutions. But who - that is the big question. If Mark Williams could remove himself from his Sandy commitments then that would be ideal to see how he handles the big time.

So what do you think ?

How do we not need to recruit another ruck? That would be the #1 prioprity (but not necessarily with our #1 draft pick - many of the AFL rucks going around now came off the 'Rookie List', but we absolutely need to bring in at least one).

3) Lets wait and see what we have with Frawley. I think that if he proves to be as good as we hope, that we'll be ok with Rivers and Carroll as well. Frawley should eventually play FB, with Carroll taking the third tall.

Even if Frawley makes it that leaves us with Rivers and Frawley as quality backs + Carroll. Rivers is best as the third tall IMHO; I'd want two others to take the key back roles.

The bench strength for the defence is extremely barren - Holland doesn't have a long-term future, Ferguson and Bizz probably don't have any future, and we're left with Warnock.

Forget mentioning more midfielders - you eventually have to say we have enough of one type - we have McLean, Moloney, Jones, Johnstone, McDonald, Sylvias when he strings enough games together.

Not a very quick midfield you've listed. We need to inject some pace.

No. 1 choice is to draft a young ruckman.

We have Carroll, Rivers, Warnock for backs. Frawley to develop as a key back with pace. Wheatley as a third and CJ may develop as that third tall. The trend now is to have smaller running backs to run the ball down the attacking end pronto.

We have a lot of small/mids on the list and plenty of developing forwards.

Go after Warnock's brother, playing at Freo 206 cm 2 years in the system, lets poach him back.

We need a strong KPP around 196cm that can develope a strong body quickly. I don't care if he plays forward or back as long. KPP win you matches, that is the difference betwwen Carlton, Richmond to Hawthorn, the hawks used early picks for KPP and the other two picked midfielders with early picks, the hawks are miles ahead of the other two.

Our midfield looks strong enough but we do need some explosive pace through there.

The best of the 194 - 197 cm forwards and 182 -186 cm quick midfielders and hope they fill out.

You trade for the ruckmen when they are 22 y.o. eg, Jolly, Longmuir, using some of your mid-fielders when they want to be paid market-rate.

Backmen are not that important unless you want to lose by less.

To be honest, we need to Draft/Trade 5 superstars in various positions within the next 2 years to be competitive. And to be honest, we don't have anything WORTH trading, that is of any value to another club, that we can spare. I think the best we can hope for is to make 1 clever trade this year or next, and draft like hell. In all honesty though, I think we're going to have to go without one or two important spots for a few years yet, namely ruckmen, and KP forwards...

At the moment we most need a big, strong, skilled, marking CHF who can impose themselves on the game, like Pavlich, Reiwoldt, Brown or even Franklin. That means pick 1-3 in the draft and hopefully a good player to select.

Since we had pick 1 a decade ago when we got TJ, we have only had two picks inside the top 5 (three inside the top 10). These were used on hard-bodied players (Brock and Col) that we needed at the time. Our "mediocre success" has meant we haven't "been to the well" often enough to grab that elusive star, like other struggling clubs. We desperately need a power forward, either by selection or by trade.

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
