Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Not selecting Yze for the first game would send a clear message to the senior players, selection is not guaranteed in reputation alone.

Would be a very good move, and I bloody hate that consecutive games crap, it forced Stynes to play a couple of games he shouldn't have and it's saved Yze from representing Sandy in the past.

Tomorrow's game will do him a world of good. He has too much talent to be down at TBO but he must know now that unless he applies himself 110% (and looks like he's doing so), he'll have to learn to take in the salty sea air at least on a fortnightly basis during the season.

26 touches, 2 goals and more inprotantly 12 tackles. Right or wrong he will be in red and blue in round 1 agains the Aints

Even though this is an improvemnt, i still would not pick him for rd 1, he is not ready

Just my thoughts

Hard to argue he didn't do what was asked of him.

12 tackles to Oooze, hard to believe that. On that stat alone he deserves his spot IMO. Prefer him not to be there for round one, but good luck to him. If he tackles like that every week (alright maybe not 12, but you get the point) then i may even jump back on the Yze bandwagon.

Alot of posters are going just on the numbers in the paper and drawing inferences that may or may not be true.

Whether Yze does or does not deserve a game may be overtaken by the injury list.

If he plays he will play up forward and given that Pickett, Sylvia and Dunn wont be there he is looking good for selection.

But the axe is not far away. Another mute performance and No 66 of Sandy may grace TBO once more.

Just a comment - Its a sad day when we haven't anyone else to start off with and so Yze gets a game in Round 1. I don't beieve 12 tackles anyhow - 1 every 8 minutes. Your'e kidding. If he plays, it will really be interesting who isn't getting a chance.

BTW - what does TBO stand for ?

Its bad luck on the injury list to have all those out that would be potentially competing with Yze for the role.

I share your skepticism about the 12 tackles which another wit suggested that was double his career aggregate. I wonder how many were effective and how many were typical of his half arsed efforts when physical contact is likely.

TBO- To be Offloaded.....nah...Trevor Barker Oval..Sandy's home ground.

He's playing round 1.

Love it or lump it!!

I'm more than comfortable having Yze in the lineup than take the speculative punt on a kid (ie-Buckley).

We're here to win games of footy, and there is an 80% chance that Ooze will contribute against St.Kilda, kick 2 or 3 goals and hit Neita and Robbo dead on the chest from the Northen Wing - which he has done countless times at the MCG.

Lets focus on how Yze can contribute to the team. You may be pleasantly surprised come round 1.

I don't know what the tackles were like and you could have knocked me over with a feather when I read he had 12 tackles.

Many posters were there.

Can they shed some light on this aspect of his performance?

Yeah, I was absolutely stunned to hear he had the dozen tackles. I realised he was racking up stats in the "T" column but my estimate was half that. From what I could tell perhaps it was when he was being tagged and being second to the ball, allowing him to tackle when the opposition first takes possession, and mostly from behind. There was one absolute pearler though that resulted directly in a goal to the Zebs. He got up gingerly and about 5-10 Zebras players flooded to him to congratulate him. But to be honest that was the ONLY time I remembering the specifics of one of his tackles.

Something that's gone unmentioned so far is his form and decision making. I saw on a number of occassions, he would receive possession relatively close to the action, and instead of booting it long to his first clear option, he would hesitate in the middle of his kicking stride, and at least try to find a hole to run into. It seemed to me he was trying to give himself more time to find a target, get a head of steam up to get more penetration and shape with his kick (easier to mark), and of course to add 10-15 metres to his play to create pressure on the opposition. Most of the time he'd lift his head to find a safe option to fall back on, then he'd look to gain those metres, taking off with the ball tucked under his arm, and before the inevitable body contact came he'd dispose of it in a rush.

My feeling was that he was capable at this level to do that with some success, and he knew it. I wasn't sure whether or not to applaud his effort, and the fact that he was taking guys on, or dismiss his often aborted attempts at breaking the lines as something an AFL player would just DO at this level.

I only remember him being tackled a few times, and when the above play repeated itself I saw that he was pulling out well before the bumps and tackles that were inevitably coming. Was he bottling out because he was uncomfortabe getting tackled, or because he knew his kick would be inaccurate..? Who knowa?

I know many posters here have gone cold on Yze and perhaps rightfully so considering recent form, but I have a small contribution to add to the debate.

A couple of years ago i spent 6 weeks working with the club's medical dept. During this time I had the opportunity to attend all training sessions and games and watch our players show off their skills 1st hand. What I will say may not exactly relate to on-field performance and therefore may easily be rebutted by anyone who has seen him play this pre-season (which I will admit I haven't), but despite the obvious criticism I will receive, I will put my little yze-loyal ass on the line.

Watching him at training had me absolutely mesmerized. His skills are absolutely incredible. He hits targets and regularly if not all the time. He exudes class and in my experiences, always gave his all at training. Sometimes he can look like he is lazy, but many people say this about Travis and no-one would deny that he SHOULD be in the team come round 1. The best players often look lazy because things come easy to them.

Yze has sublime skills, and I am of the opininon that even if he does make the occasional lazy stuff up, his precision passing and shooting for goal more than make up for it. Think about how many times this year he will hit Neita on the chest to set up a shot at goal, or slot a freakish goal himself from nowhere. Try to remember games such as Collingwood in the last two years where he turned nothing into ridiculous goals. Try to remember the game last year when he nearly kicked a goal from the left fwd pocket from 50 on a freakish angle (celebrated too early) and hit the post, only to try the same shot a few minutes later and put it through the middle. Guys like this don't grow on trees!

If Yze gets dropped and we have a few ordinary games early on, and comments like "Neitz tried hard, but the delivery into the forward line gave him scant opportunities", or "the Demons lacked enough avenues to goal up forward" come up, trust me, it will be because we lacked the silky smooth passing skills of a bloke like Yze.

He may not be the perfect player, but how many AFL players are? And if the rest of the team set a standard of toughness and unrelenting pressure at the opponent, I doubt that Yze would fail to follow the lead. The pre-season is the pre-season. players tend not to risk their necks in a practice game. I think Adem at least deserves to play the 1st few rounds, and IF he fails to deliver, then we might have to talk about replacing him. But at the moment, the bloke is still a star of the AFL. As I said before, a talent like his does not just grow on trees...

No critic of Yze has ever questioned the extent of his skills. They are not and never in doubt. Its his attitude and application of those skills.

Yze looks lazy because he is lazy when he shirks the contested ball, runs off for the easy hand off rather than assist a pressured teammate, does not chase his direct opponent pointing and shouting at other teammates to do so, repeatedly arguing with umpires, lethargically going for marks one handed and lately squibbing the contest fearing footsteps. Yep he is lazy.

Travis has addressed his earlier issues and matured. His performances are not in question. His skills sets are better than Yzes and his ability to cut a side to ribbons is evident. Yze is a downhill skier and flat track bully. Your comparison is unfair to TJ and does little to redeem Yze.

Yze has sublime skills, and I am of the opininon that even if he does make the occasional lazy stuff up, his precision passing and shooting for goal more than make up for it. Yze performs on his own terms. Its ironic you raise how many times he will hit Neita on the chest. Thats one of his issues. Up forward he has often blazed at the sticks and ignored players in better position. Its fine when he get it but too often (and more so now) he does not. So much for playing for the team.

Selfish highly talented but lazy players do grow on trees. The talented players who apply and work hard on their skills for the betterment of the team do not grow on trees. Yze is becoming more of the former category.

I doubt whether delivery to the forward line issues would be affected by Yze's absence given Yze's is an opportunist forward and has been part of the midfield rotation since 2004. Given his application over the past 2 years, he would struggle in the midfield and certainly does not appear in the planning.

Its funny how many times MFC have been criticised for lacking avenues to goal. Your right. But one problem in most of those occassions, Yze has been in the forward line and typically been one of the players who has failed.

And if the rest of the team set a standard of toughness and unrelenting pressure at the opponent, I doubt that Yze would fail to follow the lead.

Surely your own statement condemns the player who has habitually failed in these aspects for over 250 games and for many years a recognised leader, a former VC of the Club and he has to wait for other to show the way!!!! Well he has ignore the inspiring an courageous leadership efforts of Neitz,Stynes, Lyon and Brown over the past 13 years. Even Godfrey's efforts who has a heart the size of Phar Lap. Any impression on the Ooooze?? Nup. Rather damning isnt?

The pre-season is the pre-season. players tend not to risk their necks in a practice game. I think Adem at least deserves to play the 1st few rounds, and IF he fails to deliver, then we might have to talk about replacing him. But at the moment, the bloke is still a star of the AFL. As I said before, a talent like his does not just grow on trees...

Yze does not and has never risked his neck in a practice or AFL game. His embarrassing squib against Richmond is a measure of how far he has fallen. He is not a star of the AFL. He never has been a true star of the AFL and the opportunity for hom to do so is rapidly passing him by. The gulf between his best and his worst has been too great and too frequent over the past five years to be so. Had the talent and skills but squandered it in its selfish application.

The axe is on his neck for round 1 (if selected). Another typical poor Yze effort will allow him to build on the 12 mysterious tackles he has had to date.

I admire your support for the player I just believe the basis of your justification is misguided.

DD,

That's the reason why I cant get overwhelmed with a VFL game statitstical count that appears questionable and does not establish clearly based on your's and other eyewitness reports that Yze has the smarts to know that he can skim it at this level and look good. He cant at AFL but I dont think he fully appreciates this.

Time will tell. I hope he does turn it around. I am just not confident he will more than what he believes is necessary to justify his next game. A tragic short sell of the talent.

Everyone keeps forgetting his skills have SFA to do with why he should be dropped. Its because he has no ticker. 12 tackles maybe, but ive never EVER seen him tackle a player in the vein of Wheels, Pickett, Carroll, McLean etc etc. I'll wager 90% of those tackles were from behind or a player trying to take off out of a pack.

He will play Rd1 because we dont have enough starting players to knock him out, but the fact still remains he is not in our best 22 and I hope he doesnt get the games record.

    GAMEDAY: Rd 07 vs Richmond

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
