Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

So posters are going to make comments on something they know nothing about on the hearsay of another poster who is only guessing that there could be a problem.Typical.

Vanderburg is Jack's father. Little known fact. It will get reveled in season 3.

I fear it’s going to be the case for the remainder of his career. He’s now spent close to half his career with injury, and there’s no end in sight as his body does not seem to be capable of holding up to play at the highest level.

would like to see the stats but I suspect you are on the money.

Time to give Stretch a decent run of games and let Jack rest/get back his mojo at Casey.

Why is this year bringing back memories of the up and down years under Daniher.

Yep. A lot we aren't being told here. Not that I'd imagine we would anyway.

Both way below par....both have a ....? ..a niggle !

These are both key pivotal players.

Something ain't kosher

Remember we played without both in early rounds last season

This us Mark 2 horror show with possibly more dire consequences long term!

Hopefully Club gets it right for both Jack and Tom !

I hold fears too, but the reality is we're all operating on guesses and assumptions.

None of us know for sure if his limp on the weekend was foot-related or was a cork or whatever he copped in the VFL practice match.

Still, if his fitness doesn't let him do any more than he was able to on Saturday, I'd like him to own up to it and, as a leader, remove himself from the seniors until he's fit enough to compete.

Ive had Plantar Facitis and its a really rotten thing to get. Its hard enough to mow the lawn, let alone play football. It does take forever to fix and im not sure surgery is always the best option. There was the famous story of Robert Harvey who jumped off a brick wall on to concrete to snap his. Im pretty sure it impacted his career regardless. However other players such as Dane Swan had it and managed to fix it fairly quickly.

Foot injuries can be easily diagnosed but difficult to know how long to rest. The injury can appear healed and then suddenly recur without warning.  Those who have had plantar know that you can think your right only to realise that the pain or discomfort can sometimes be only a step away. A little like achilles injuries. Rest and rehab are key components to recovery, but for a professional footballer or any sportsperson, rest is the saviour but also the enemy. The longer the rest the more chance of recovery but try telling that to anyone who has a burning desire to be back on the ground. It would take a brave coach or club doctor to say to a player that they will not be allowed to train or play for 12 months or more. Impossible. For most recreational sportsmen and women, surgery is the last resort whereas for professional footballers it is normal and expected. If you don't do it, Clubs will be criticised. Everyone will ask "why was something not done sooner" when for most of us, it is the last resort. One thing's for sure.  You should try and rehab the injury to avoid surgery, because if you embark on surgery, you still need to rehab afterwards.  Once you start limping, you know there is a problem that can't be remedied by pain killers.

Jack Viney needs to be saved from himself, and the coach and the medical staff need to step up and do so.

Seven years in and still not being at 100 games must absolutely sting for a person as dedicated and committed Jack. Zach Tuohy has played 138 games in that time, being taken in the same draft. Viney has played 99 and has been been at barely 50% for the last 20 of those.

It is clear that Jack is never going to put his hand up and ask for help (although as a leader he should be doing the right thing for the team), so the club needs to act in his best interests . At some point football needs to be a secondary consideration to his quality of life after football.

We were playing with one short on the weekend , but why put the clearly injured player in the middle ?

Why not Petracca or ANB or Salem?

Viney was not even contesting, I just don’t get it.

Viney has looked pretty good in the rehab group (yes I know) for most of summer. They seemed to be timing his run pretty well.

Apparently he got a corky at the end of the Casey game, and then there was talk of a head knock in a Friday training session.

Both of those could account for his performance as much as any long term foot concerns.

I commented after training last week that he was held out of drills and something didn't seem exactly right otherwise he would've done the whole session.

Absolutely agree that he needs to be 100% right to play again. No corkies. No concussions. No anything. Still think there's some chance that could happen by Saturday and he just had a shocker but I want to hear Goodwin say he's 100% and it's almost to the point where I'd like to see him prove it by dominating at Casey first.

Maybe it’s not smoke and mirrors. Maybe leading up to the practice matches Jack was in really good nick until he got that cork on his knee.

Lets not jump the gun here and think that it’s the end of the world. Let’s wait and see how he goes this weekend.

Well Mega...  if that's still hampering him,  then it goes back to the same decision making when he had the initial Plantar-Fascia injury.   Don't play,  until you are un-injured.

Yeah no doubt. All I’m saying is people are freaking out that it’s his foot and not necessarily the knock he took a couple of weeks back, but you’re 100% right if he’s not 100% he should admit that and sacrifice himself for the betterment of the team.

I don't know what his problem is but for some reason he's been wearing a bandage up around his knee.

He was wearing it at the start of the Casey game (so it's not from a corky late in the game) and it's a bit high up for his foot so I'm suggesting something else might be wrong with him.

Could it even be a knee problem???

Viney played 79 minutes according to AFL.com. He looked like he was focussed on just getting through the game but also looked like this when he come back the last couple of seasons before being unleashed to devestating effect. I'll back him to be one of our best in the next 2-3 games.

I've never seen a player play under such duress. He could barely move.

As I mentioned in the post game thread, he could barely move in the warm up that I watched on Instagram. It was bloody evident on Instagram pre-game!

I don't know the ins and outs but WTF is going on?

Not sure if that is Jack's problem, but I have had PF as well and it is a nasty injury.

Yeah completely forgot about that one, he's had that knee taped up for a fair bit of this summer. Which suggests it's not an immediate problem but also doesn't help.

I'm hoping it's not the foot but simply a whole bunch of little things and just not having done enough match practice to be up with the pace of the game.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
