Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Update:

Christian explained how he found it to be medium impact.

"The three things we take into account with impact is the visual look of the incident, the player reaction and also the medical report," Christian said.  "Taking all those things into account, and the fact that Berry didn't return to the ground, it was graded as medium impact."

How the visual look of the incident ie the optics affects impact is beyond me!!.  Sure, Berry went down but that was as much from surprise as it was severity of the bump.  And then there is the mysterious 'medical report'.

I reckon Christian weighed it pretty heavily on the optics - the media was baying for a suspension and he delivered.

I reckon we should appeal not only to get May off but to show our mettle - it is time we play the hard game like other clubs do.

The Lion player should be reprimanded for careless play, lack of awareness and very poor acting !!

However, even if this specific incident is not willing of a suspension, it does not bode well that he is doing this stupid stuff in a practice match let alone what might happen in the real deal. although he is new, he should still be leading by example.

the labrador and o'mac can hold down the backline in the meantime.

This is not the point!!, the reality of it is.. He braced himself , was not negligent or malicious, turns away when sees impact imminent.

Bulltish ruling by bultish MUPPETS!

Question

Do you reckon Pies, Swans, Hawks,Toiges ,Ess would just cop it.

An old Carlton stalwart would have your answer.

Time to grow up Melbourne. Stand our ground.

Just for good measure:  Clayton Oliver ($1500- Striking Lyons) and Aaron vandenBerg ($3000 Stiking Neale and making contact with umpire).

Clearly, wearing red and blue means incidents are judged more severely than others!!

That was garbage by Oliver.

Threw a cheap one when we were only 7pts down with 4 mins left and we had the momentum. They then kicked a goal to put it away.

Summed up a filthy day for the club from a discipline, injury and performance point of view.

Must contest this.

There was no concussion and the player left the field unassisted.  He lay on the ground for so long because he ran into a 100kg man and had the wind completely knocked out of him.

The fact that Christian considers 'the look' of the incident when making his judgement is laughable.

Agreed, and good on the AFL for clamping down on all these little punches.

I would hope that no other Melbourne player does this now.

The opposition player was not watching where he was going. I think May probably thought that the player would look up and avoid May - but he didn't till it was too late.

Mind you, if May missed his chin and only collected as far up as his upper chest, the players chin would have gone forward initially, then back. If he struck the chin at all the head would have gone back straight away. judge for yourselves

Exactly what I thought, it also seemed a long time to allow berry to avoid may, I mean why should may get done for Berry's lack of awareness, may was stationary berry was moving, may is allowed to hold his ground and brace for impact.

Sigh.

I hate the stupid off the ball bumps and sniping, but this was a 20-times-a-game shephard that just happend to hit awkwardly.

I don't see how a near-stationary player turning their body to receive the contact of someone running right at them (even if the opponent was just running stupidly rather than intentionally) can be a suspension offence.

Exactly, may was just standing there berry ran into him, he is allowed to hold his ground

Bottom line is, it was a silly thing to do.

I like that he plays the line, but if he keeps crossing it, it will hurt the team. Should know better. Really disappointing.

Simon Goodwin does not agree with you, Jaded. Like him I do not understand the fuss...

I'd like to know what was in the ''medical report''.

Like others have already said, the ''look'' of the incident should be entirely irrelevant.

If the first contact was to the chin and not the neck then unfortunately he will not get off.  Hard to tell from the video.  He could have hit the chin first, or he may not have.  This is where Berry's recollection of events comes in.

What do u expect him to do? Jump out of the way? Goodwin would’ve given him more than one week for doing that.

You are allowed to block/body check a player from running through to receive the handball. There was no force for what May did. All he did was brace himself.

As I said in my initial post Megatron, I'm not arguing the merit or otherwise of the decision, however I'm not convinced that all May did was block / body check or brace himself for contact.  To my eye, May led with his shoulder and was off the ground at the point of contact.  That was unnecessary, and likely to be costly.

Translation: as MFCSS sufferers (long term, lapsed, and recovered), we accept that this kind of bullsh*t just happens to MFC

But this is the new MFC! If we have the nads to shoot for 70,000 member,s we have the nads to challenge the MRP lottery

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
