Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

A win with 10 of our top 22 missing. No injuries. Preuss looking the goods. Luvly Jubbly.

Let's not forgot that they too had players missing. I thought we had a much stronger line up.

Still nice to take the biccies.

I only saw the 2nd half of the 3rd quarter onwards.

  • VDB looks in ripping shape. He was in everything and was the highlight for me. He was in the center bounce a fair bit in the last. He is a sledgehammer. Looked very fit and took it seriously.
  • Lewis played well. I'm hoping a number of players go past him this year but he will be important in the first few rounds while we get other players back up to speed and I'm happy that he is on the list.
  • Sparrow played wing and then moved into the center bounce at times. Physically ready to play and will get game time this year. Looked like a first year player who didn't quite belong yet and didn't seem to position himself that well to get the ball, but when he was in a position to get it he did a lot right. Didn't look clean but he was determined to impact the contest and his second and third efforts were great.
  • Preuss looked good. Clearly not as polished or composed as Gawn. Had the opportunity to kill a bloke in the last 10 minutes and pulled out. I reckon if it was round one he would have smashed the bloke. Will be very interested to see how the two ruck situation will continue over the JLT.

Let me guess what the coaches will say:

Goodwin: it was a good hit out and good to come away with a strong win without having to overstretch ourselves.

Buckley: the score doesn’t matter, we were able to test players out of position

So Preuss Rd 1?

I'd be shocked if he wasn't.

Sensible filth fan next to me agreed.

They have to play a tall decent player on him and with TMac and Weid and perhaps one of the Smiths we are looking dangerous up forward and I haven't mentioned the crumbers.

Pressure really good from both sides.

Apart from the first 10 minutes our pressure was good and structures seemed sound.

Pies were missing their 3 most dangerous forwards in De Goey, Stephenson and WHE, although Elliott makes up for one of those. So the low score from them isn't a huge surprise. That was pretty much 2017 Collingwood we played when they couldn't score.

I was a little disappointed we didn't switch the ball more around half back, we seemed comfortable to bomb it out.

Backline: Frost and Oscar both started very poorly missing chances to kill contests with intercepts or strong punches. Frosty clean missed a few chances to mark and Oscar looked slow. But they got going as the game spread out a bit more and our pressure came up. Jetta excellent. Hibberd solid. Lewis did enough defensively and apart from his trade mark dumb free kicks he played well. Hunt good.

Mids: Gus had it on a string early and his clean hands and tackle pressure was excellent. Tracc then took over. Vanders cracked in. Young Sparrow tagged Treloar in the second half, nice goal and won some ball, probably wasn't as clean with his tackles as I expected. Max dominated, hardly a surprise there. Salem showed his class at times.

Forwards: Pressure was really good. Joel Smith a nice addition in that regard and C Wagner worked hard. Tim Smith did ok. Preussy hit some contests very hard but I wasn't impressed by his positioning, did get on the end of it a few times though. One nice grab and a solid but not spectacular game from Weids. Nice goal from Garlett and good pressure but he made some dreadful errors kicking the ball along the ground and making bad decisions, didn't do enough to convince me he was in any way back.

Stock up:
JKH - really got us going in the first term and was dangerous all game, strong enough at the contest, high work rate
Hunt - no huge runs but opened the game up and used it nicely at times
Petracca - midfield oomph

Stock down:
ANB - very scratchy ball use and decision making
Stretch - didn't take the game on enough or deliver well

I was watching on and off, but did see Vandenberg lay an absolutely beauty of a tackle on Dayne Beams. You could tell it took the wind out of him.

Vdb is a take no prisoners footballer. At one in the last q omac poleaxed a magpies player (not sure who - young player I think) who took a while to recover. When he did finally fully stand up vandersloot bumped into him deliberately.

I was impressed with Hore's intercept marks, however he shanked his kicks every time. Nice to see Hunt find some form again with his run and dash, using his strength's and keeping it simple. Big Preussy looking really dangerous down forward with 2 goals but could of kicked 4.

Hore took a couple of nice grabs intercepting and used the ball pretty well, a couple of shanks under pressure but a lovely kick to get us started.

Didn't look all that great when playing from behind or side to side though, not sure he's got a lot of power and the step up in pace might catch him out at times so it will be interesting to see where he fits.

Looked more like a guy who can do a job than a threat to really break out.

Lovely walk in the park !

I did really love the tackle by OMac and then a short time later by Vanders in the last quarter.

Really hurt their opponents   but legally    OMacs took a few minutes to get away from the trainers  right in front of me   great to see..    Hell there were a lot of collingwood supporters there    GO DEES   on a roll !!

Wouldn't hate if he didn't keep making the same mistakes.

He wasn't alone, Harmes didn't start well and Vanders was pretty fumbly at times, but I thought Corey Wagner and JKH probably used it better than ANB today.

I haven't been able to watch all of it but I think we have a new Dom Tyson- Stretch. I've seen 3 passes direct to a Collingwood player. PLease!

At least you seem like half glass full type of person.

Its his first game in 8 or 9 months, give him some breathing room for God’s sake.

I like the commentators call that if he found himself ‘in the hole in front of Braydon Preuss he couldn’t run out of it quick enough’. I would do the same

Can they play Gawn, Preuss, TMac, Weeds and J Smith  in the same side?

Some of our kicking into the forward line was off today. Sometimes it was just bombed in and sometimes when they lowered their eyes the ball went it too low.

That's to be expected though - we were missing some key players, so we would have been out of sync a little.  Not to mention it still being February.  I think the pressure, game plan and giving the players a run is the most important thing.  I'll be worried if it continues though...

I don't think so - I see Joel Smith as depth.  With Preuss, Weids and TMac down there, you add in Melksham, Spargo, Fritsch, Trac and so forth, there isn't room for him unless there is an injury.  Like others, he is terrific depth.

? I can’t see them playing 2 rucks to be honest.   I think J Smith definitely adds something forward that we don’t have.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
