Billy you have every right to have a whinge. The drought is terrible. Our family when I was young had a farm near Buchan right on the Snowy and were badly affected by a drought and poor cattle prices got the better of us. Thats going back to the 70s.

I’ve been making the donation for 11 years. I’m happy this year they offered a $25 dee shop voucher in lieu of a scarf. 

Id love a guaranteed opportunity  to buy a reserved seat for grand final in the reserve grand final if the Dee’s make it. Offer that as premium offer and watch the cash role in. I’ve bern a restricted member for MCC for what seems like forever, and make financial contributions, but if we had made the grand final I would have had no opportunity to purchase a legit grand final ticket.

I emailed the club last year basically saying that I want to spend the money to support them, but I literally can’t see any benefit - I thought I was missing something...

How many of the MCC members would remain if they could only access the cricket with their membership?

I'm sure the waiting list would collapse.  The truth is the MCC is dependant upon football for their revenue, and they take from the football clubs who play at the MCG to their benefit, which means other clubs as well as Melbourne ( who currently have the biggest affiliation in the MCC).

Those who are already MCC/MFC effectively make a donation. 

I think the MCC currently provides some support to the MFC, but it is totally inadequate for what the MCC gain in gate receipts/membership of the MCC/ ground advertising during football season.

How to convince the MCC to contribute a just amount, rather than just those passionate MCC/MFC members alone?  Or to provide names of MFC supporters in the MCC, to increase MFC membership numbers, to appear more attractive to sponsors.

Trouble is if the MCC were to do this then all the other clubs would be looking for the same, which would really challenge the future of the MCC.

Think you will find the contribution is on the rise for all clubs. 

None of us know what the revenue sharing model is, so what is a “just amount”. We shouldn’t be looking for handouts because of a historical connection with the MCC - let’s build our own revenue base, which we are.

I've changed from a Country member to an Interstate member for the MCC - perhaps MFC should consider similar arrangements (if they don't already)? Been a member of MFC for last 18? years. Take out the basic dual MFC/MCC membership so I get a scarf, a fridge magnet and stickers which proudly go on my cars (and my brother's numberplate - a turncoat Carlton supporter!).

George, I remember talking to an MCC committee member some years ago who assured me that the MCC does put money into the football club, a look through the annual accounts may reveal more (or ask Steve Smith)! I believe that years ago during the very dark days of the footy club the MCC was really propping it up, although it’s difficult to find out more.

I'm a Restricted Member of the MCC, won't be a Full member for at least another 6-7 years.

In the event that MFC make a Grand Final i'd have no chance through the MCC - would need to rely on MFC/MCC (Premium) with Grand Final Add on.

(Also get the 3xGuest Pass for selected games (have these been announced?) and a Young Demon membership, just need to find a young demon ahah. )

$545 (MCC Restricted Membership)
$219 (MFC/MCC Premium Membership)
$229 (Grand Final Guarantee)

So In essence that's a $448 'donation' on top of $545 for the chance to buy a GF ticket - Not that I'd be complaining if it occurred!

Yes, I am well aware of the MCC's support.

The point is that the level of support is totally insufficient for what football brings to the MCC.  If Geelong play at home, with a crowd of 30K, they pocket about $1M per game.  We don't get all the gate receipts from the MCC members and their guests, nor anything from the advertising, nor the parking fees at the ground. 

It should not be expected that the MCC members have to double dip to keep the MFC viable, when the MCC is doing so well from football.

The last time I looked the MCC had 25K MFC supporters.  IF the MCC gives $1M to the MFC each year, it represents a paltry $40 for each supporter. Does that seem remotely fair, especially since we play a dozen matches at the MCG each year.  If the MCC provided the $219 for MCC/MFC membership, instead of the members themselves, they would be giving the MFC $5M each year.

One organisation, the MCG trust is a state government appointed body and the other is a community owned football club

To be clear, the MCG Trust is state Government appointed, but it's not the same organisation as the Melbourne Cricket Club, which has been given the rights by the Trust to manage the ground.

Demonlanders,

when I started supporting the MCC Football Club, we were one of the MCC sporting divisions (like bowls, cricket, lacrosse, etc). Now we are stand alone but is that a good thing? Personally, I think we should remain/resume integration (and every single MCC member is automatically a de facto member of the Melbourne Football Club)!

Under this scenario, we would be the largest and most powerfull Club in the AFL! ?

We are a sporting section again. Jimmy brought us back together. Hence the MCC logo on the back collar of the jumper

 Then we should have an MFC membership category which only (say) gives you a scarf and every single MCC member should automatically be included in it. Collingwood/Carlton/Geelong/Essendon supporters could give their scarves to the homeless but at least all the MCC members who profess to follow Melbourne would then at least come to the footy sporting a scarf  (and have a right to claim to be a “supporter”)!

I'm an interstate MCC member and pay the extra $85 for the MFC duel membership. I actually still get to the G for maybe 10 games a year.

From memory I have got offers from the MFC in regards to games in Sydney and also pre match functions at maybe the Duke in Melbourne? I don't think players are in attendance but at least the club attempt to offer something up.

I see my MFC membership as a donation. I signed up when I finished uni and could afford it.

One year the club rang me and said I had paid my membership twice. After saying it was fine and I would just donate it to the club, I called back up and asked if I could sign someone else up. They were more than happy to help out. Was pretty happy that the MFC membership pack arrived in the post a week before Christmas for my Geelong supporting mate. He wasn't impressed. Especially when he didn't renew his membership and would get calls from Dees' players trying to get him to renew. He tells a particularly funny story involving Dean Kent..

I think the people that don't sign up as duel members just don't love footy as much as the rest of us. There is nothing wrong with that it's just the way it is. If people don't care enough, you are going to struggle to convince them to sign up, irrespective of the cost.

They do this, duel members get a scarf that says MCC/MFC on it.

It would be great if We could hear someone from the MCC speak at The AGM to give a run down of exactly where we stand financially both now and in the future.

During those 2 finals last year i have often wondered how much cash went through the stadium.

Thanks to all who kick in twice.  Unfortunately I’ll be on the MCC waitlist for a long time yet, but I’ll join your ranks when it becomes possible.

And this year’s offer of an alternative to the scarf was a good idea.  Although I love wearing the new one each year, the old ones are just building up in the cupboard.  So this year I opted for the 3 games pass to give to my Blues-loving partner to save her a little cash when she comes with me.

The club will still get something - I’ll probably still buy a scarf anyway ....

Collingwood get a better deal than we do and for more games. History is nice but it doesn't compare to capitalism. We are still the poor relation even though we were born out of the club/ground.
