Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Just curious from track watchers on the progress of Corey Wagner. So far we have heard of Marty Hore and Tom Sparrow as potential first year players getting some early senior exposure, but yet nothing on Wagner who is a mature age recruit.

He had some impressive big numbers in the VFL and I am really hopeful we see him earlier on.

I would also add his brother Josh.

Contrary to many on this site, I liked what I saw with Josh. Thought he showed promise but lost his way last season.

A little rough around the edges but had a manic attack on the ball and opponent.

Are you serious - JOSH WAGNER ??????

From what i have seen a lack of attack on the ball and opponent is one of his main problems - lacks any physical edge to his game whatsoever.  Also needs to use the ball better & get more touches.

Even at Casey he was solid rather than great.

No need to get Cranky Franky.

Happy to bow to greater knowledge but I was only interested in getting some comments.

I was referring to his 2016 season when he played half a dozen or more senior games.  He lacked polish but seemed to be a goer. At that time the club must have thought that he was half decent. And he has been retained on the list.

By the way I simply said that I liked what I saw, nothing about being great.

Corey Wagner, has what has been inferred in the first post, under that radar

Just been ticking off the preseason sessions

Can run all day and has good skills, does a lot of the craft work with the other small forwards, Spargo, Garlett etc

Josh Wagner is what we have seen, a solid AFL player, who needs to excel and sustain to get a chance in AFL team

Interesting he has been training with the forwards. Would think he would be eyeing a spot on the wing to utilize his running power.

Think they see him as another Nibbler, maybe cover and keep Nibs honest

During match sim both buzz around everywhere

Craft for small fwds is pressure, tackling and kicking goals anyway you can

yeah I think you might be right there. small forwards like Nibbler who push up the ground to the contest then have to sprint back inside F50 run as much as anyone out on the footy field. i haven't seen him training but I watched Corey Wagner a bit in the VFL last year and it looks to me like he could play that same sort of role as ANB does too.

I see him also as possibly interchangeable with Melksham.

I think I was watching the same one as you.

You have not mentioned my favourite Wagner.

Richard was very versatile and able to play a variety of roles.

His skills were sublime, his intensity and commitment renowned, and he was able to perform on the big stage when it counted.

Unfortunately, he was a bit of a prima donna who had a habit of rubbing up his team mates the wrong way. So he was not a great team player as he always demanded the ball and did not like team mates getting in his way.

He also attracted some undesirable fans including a bloke called Adolf and his cheer squad.

But when he played, he was sublime.

That was a good season for him when having the opportunity. He did show some potential at the end of the training and adjusting rainbow. He hit hard, went in hard and ran well with the ball. His finishing skills were the suspect areas but, he was improving. He has deceptive pace and some height that I hope he has been able to develop. Thoroughly worth watching.

Thanks Dee, I was feeling like a fool. I agree his disposal was not good but it was his intensity and hardness at the ball that I liked and I remember thinking that this was the new type we were recruiting and developing. But lost track of him and unlike others did not see anything of him in the VFL.

Just got back from the downtown Palais
Where the music was so sweet
It knocked me right back in the alley
I'm ready, yea, yea, yea, I'm ready
Wo, wo, wo, I'm ready
And I'm really gonna rock tonight
Sweet little lady sings like a songbird
And she sings the opera like you ain't never heard
But she ain't ready
No, no, no, she ain't ready
No, no, no, she ain't ready
And she ain't gonna rock & roll
She's sweet on Wagner
I think she'd die for Beethoven
She loves the way Puccini lays down a tune
And Verdi's always creeping from her room

Wagner and Beethoven are bullocking Germans who command the ball as inside players either in the midfield or down the spine, with the fleet footed Puccini and Verdi avoiding physical contact using their sublime foot skills on the outside at wing or half forward.

Theyre both duds and  always have been.  And yes I know your post is 18 months old,  but I could have told you the exact same thing then.

Delist both.  Classic list cloggers.

Now does Spargo have a younger brother coming through the ranks??

You're really taking every opportunity to sink the boots into Spargo.  Not sure what he's done to deserve it to be honest.

FWIW, when we're up and about, Charlie Spargo is often involved in most scoring chains. He doesn't get it a lot but he's a good decision maker and solid user when he does. We could do with a bit of that around half forward. He's a better bet for mine than a few others.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
