Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Are we talking about the pre 2016 Dees or our present list?

We must be careful to not keep comparing this group with the all too frequent failures of yesteryear.

IE look forward not back!

why... that is motivation to do better.

Don't sweep things under the carpet...  that  IS  the way to NOT move at all...   let alone forward.

Playing the Dees has always been the best elixir for players returning from injury. They always play some of their best footy too. At least that's what my MFCSS riddled mind recalls.

That's because we were bruise free.  Our clubs default culture... between Norm Smith 1964,  and Ron Barassi 1985.  And between Neil Balme & Roosy 2014.

We are back to  "Checker's Demons"  once again...  hopefully for some time to come, yet.

Sorry DV, not sure I agree with this. Goody has nothing to gain by comparing his chargers with the Mark Neeld era where only about 3 players are still on the books.

He must demand performance and evaluate weekly on the output vs expectations - and hold the line on any sub par efforts observed. He is absolutely doing this. Moving Jack Watts on shows talent alone isn’t good enough and shows the whole group the ramifications of non compliance.

This group are motivating each other by demanding excellence of each other. The only stat they will mention on poor club history is no flag since 1964, because they know it matters to us.

Not Goody us... the supporters.  the Board, etc.

Goody won't be bothered with anything negative and irrelevant to the current players preparations, at all...

But players not being aware of our past does us no service...   We have to be Honest of our successes and why...  and equally our past failings and the Why's as well...  Or...  we all learn absolutely nothing,  and then we just continue to sweep our historical failings under the carpet,  and fail to learn...  thus making similar mistakes in future.

This is the conservatives way and thinking...  they can do no wrong,  its arrogant,  and a refusal to look introspectively at ones self.   To look in the mirror with a truthful insightful stare.

Have a look at young Viney. who has coveted the Hawks following his father...  then back to SA...  and finally back home,  in AFL terms,  to the Dee's.

I guarantee you, he,  young Jack,  knows full well who was a goer from our past,  and who put in short steps during our  2003  to  2014  years.   And he appears all out to change the culture that is so critical to our New breed Demons.

Sorry DV8 my point is why burden the current group with what happened when the pre 2016 were not good enough.

Its not relevant to them that opposition sides relished playing the unprepared and beleaguered Demons and these are memories we want to put firmly behind us as each season goes by.

Roosy found it hard early on to get the fear out of players of errors and the sins built up over nearly a dismal decade.

A club can only put things in the past through recognition, admission, and change...  with a determination to never go back to the culture that has kept rearing its soft moldy head into our club every 10 seasons or so.

The reason it keeps returning to us,  is that those about the club do not recognise it, and its ways.

Dees are unbackable favorites at $1.3. Under Roos/Goody we have been strong against port. They have difficulty containing our contested style. We dominated them last year and narrowly lost at Port. Their top 6 contested possession winners from that game were

wines, Polec, Rockcliff, Pittard, Jonas and  Wingard of which 4 wont be playing.

That same group also had 60 contested possessions.

Who from port could possibly make up those number???

If we are on we will bury them.

I came here to get excited by injured Port players.

How does anyone get excited about injured players ? anyway?

If we have to rely on opposition teams being lessened by injury,  then what is the enjoyment from beating 2nd string sides ?   then we prove nothing at all,  its just cheap thrills, or something else.

I have never, in all of my 40+ years following the Dees, given a single [censored] about who is missing from an oppo side when we beat them. As a matter of fact, I probably could not quote a SINGLE time when a key opposition player has been missing when we beat a side.

I don't gaf. I just want to win. And if the other sides best players are missing? So f*$king what.

you speak indirectly sku...   that's not what English is.   it is something else that's its become.   something different to the words meanings.

this is what the world has become crooked corrupted, and cloaked.

Think of all the little children that would have been saved, if people would only talk straight,  and not play word games with innuendo's.

Round 1 is a massive test. With port having some players out it will be interesting to see the mindset of our players.

In the past when the opposition has players out we seem to think we will win without working hard.

To me this is between the ears. We need to play 4 quarters at 100% and not stop until the final siren which is something we haven’t been able to do consistently.

Time will tell.

My point which you seem not too get  DV8 is that we have moved on from these soft efforts and therefore we don't keep bringing up about it.

You seem to want to keep bringing it up to somehow believe it will ensure we don't go back.

Forget the old past (as Roosy found was hard for some) but it's irrelevant completely from 2016 as we started our real development as a serious team.

I doubt it. Shouldn’t lose home games, particularly against interstate clubs.

Last year was a disappointment.

Round 1. just as important as Round 22. in the final points wash up.

We will be switched on and hard

That loss to Port was heavily assisted by the umpires - it is something that won't necessarily go away until we are consistently in the top 4 across a season.

Just a little worried for this first game of the season that the 'hardness' of which you speak will not be on the field in several key areas; hope I am wrong but our injuries, returning players from injuries, a suspension and longer-term experience deficits may add up to a disappointing start. On paper, we are ready for Port and should take the biscuits.

Christ we have some weak-minded supporters who absolutely typify the stereotype that is bandied about.

If we lose to Port at the G with the outs they have, it will be nothing short of embarrassing.

This is the lack of ruthlessness that is consistently associated with the MFC.

We should account for Port easily in round 1.

Of course we should win. Jones/Viney/melksham in will certainly help.

Our defensive game during pre-season was quite ordinary at times. Need to lift significantly in the real stuff.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
