Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Been saying it for years.

Finally we see eye to eye!

Of course STMJ most are self appointed genii, myself included, on footy and will spout forth on a regular basis, making sure that every reader on thr board understands their opinion is the only right one

I know the Footy Dept read this board, but inly when they need a break from the harsh reality that is modern footy

Except Moonie if course, he's contebt just to troll

I fail to see how my post influences the performance of the team.

6 degrees of separation.

In our case, probably more like 2 degrees...  because of our common footy interest, and our inner social networks.

We ALL influence one another.

And this is why the clubs culture is not just about the players...  but also very much about the clubs supporters...  and staff, servants, doctors, and hangers-ons.

This is what is meant by keeping good people around the club...  the inner sanctum.   Level headed people, who do not go off with arrogance and all sorts of stuff.

My point was if the team shares your overconfidence they are very likely going to get belted - simple really

I certainly hope they don't because it would be completely ill founded at this stage

Its also the opposition club sensing what is coming out of our camp, in the day leading up to the game. If they sense we are arrogant, they will be fired up... coming out to smash us in every way possible.

Good games for injuries, with that sort of atmosphere.

Both teams could end up hurt, and suffering through early season.

Talk about shooting ones own foot.

All I remember from Round 1s of the last few years is the ‘that’s SO Melbourne’ of my daughter exclaiming as Gawn missed the monty goal, Wines debut destroying us, and Rockliff booting a bag as his then Lions mauled us

Of course there was also Clayton’s glorious debut but that is somehow not nearly as strong in the memory banks

I approach every season with a mix of complete joy and utter dread

I'd rather forget the other stuff...

Clayton's debut, wow....I knew we had a star on our hands.

After all the dark days of drafts gone past we got this one right, it was obvious in that first game.

Oh dear this is the kind of "getting ahead of ourselves" mentality that has brought this club to its knees over and over again

Rest assured they will,  like every other team come out firing and will be desperate to get a win in round 1 - it will not be easy  #bookmarkit

They have some quality players - if we are not 100% focused and committed a loss is definitely on the cards

Yes. Comments on an internet fan forum have a direct correlation to how the team will perform. The players probably look to DL to gauge how confident they should be and we therefore have a great responsibility of ensuring we never get excited or portray any sort of confidence whatsoever in the boys.

Thanks for handing us a round 1 loss with your irresponsible comments @Ethan Tremblay

Calm down and stop trying to be everyone's dad Sydee, we are allowed to be excited and expect greatness this year. Enjoy the ride, or at the very least, allow others to be excited if you insist on being a wet blanket.

A good start is only just that.....a good start.

We need to keep our powder dry (club and supporters) until finals time. All the current positivity about the club comes from our end of season finish not what we were doing in the first half of the season.

I really don't want to see our mob smashing teams early in the season. Give me hard fought wins and even a few honourable losses for us to be able to build the momentum as the season progresses.

For me blood pressure medication and increased intake of hard liquor will only take place come finals time.

Even finals is not a given, not without a lot of hard work and sustained wins during the season.

There are going to be a lot of clubs that are similarly determined that 2019 will be their year. It does not take much to tip the scales one way or the other.

If we are over confident or lazy, another club will replace us. It's a tough, hard and even competition.

My God underselling your powers, I am shocked

This is Demonland, there are posters on here who know so much more than the coaches we have, the coaches make sure they read Demonland to ensure they don't let their inadequacies fail the team

That's very good Saty!!

It would remind them of how passionate and serious our fans are about their footy club !

And of course that fans sometime have better insights than they do !

Existing inside a footy bubble is not always a good thing. We all know about bubbles. Snap, crackle and pop.

Just ask Darren Weir.

Roosters today and feather dusters tomorrow.

It might also be good for a little light relief from the seriousness that is footy.

Including the ritualistic sabre rattling between your good self and the black knights.

If we are going to progress, the classic dominate every stat but the scoreboard approach we had last season needs to stop. We mauled Port in enemy territory last season but they won because we didn't hit the scoreboard enough. At the G with a team hopefully hungry to redeem themselves after the finals exit, we should be beating port comfortably.

Watts after an at times distracting and turbulent off season will be coming in really hot, frothing one might say, eyes rolling back in his head looking to rack up and power Port into a 10 goal drubbing.

Then after quarter time he'll go back to his old ways and we'll cruise in to an injury-free 15 goal win

it will be interesting to see how many of our large rehab group will be ready for round 1. Would like to see our team before getting too cocky.

Gut feel tells me Melksham (hamstring issues) will be the only one from rehab to miss round 1.

This is provided we don't have an inury in the JLT (ala T McDonald last year)

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
