Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Update on Billy Stretch would be appreciated.

Oh and some one tell the coaches that Fritsch shouldn’t play half back. Thanks ?

Fritsch is too valuable as a forward to play in defence ... he ain't got jostle power, for defence ... but he is a great mark, has some speed, kicks quite well for goal (s) and can lead into space quite OK. Great at passing across minus 40metres, too. Sound handballer. Definite forward.

I like Fritter as a sweeper across half back and up the wing. He's a great mark for his size, but more importantly he gets into good position and has excellent vision and kicking skills. It's guys like he and Salem (hopefully Kolo as well) who execute with precision and create opportunities for our forwards.

I'd appreciate an update on Kolo if hes there. TIA.

Many up-sides to this player and his capacities - just worried, as mentioned, about him being flattened with such a light frame.

Just noticed. Fritter, Salem and KK are being mentioned as half back sweepers with real potential. Their value might also be that they are all left footers.

Left footers, as a minority group, have a natural, but marginal, advantage because they turn clock wise to get onto their kicking foot. Right footers naturally turn anti clockwise and, when chasing, can lose a bit of contact with left footers. The dorks exploited this with Lewis, Gibson, Rioli, Franklin and others.

Add Viney, Lewis, May and we have a core group of lefties that could deliver an advantage.

I prefer Fritter up forward i think. In large part because he has such beautiful hands, is a terrific mark (especially for his size) and his excellent kicking skills means he hits targets inside 50 and makes the most of his shots at goals.

But i can see the logic for him continuing to play off the HB line and think that is where they play him (based on training reports om which group he is training with).

One, they seem to have Smith ear marked for a forward role, which i think makes sense with his leap (as they want to create aerial contests an ensure long balls coming in, if not marked are brought to ground - also his athleticism helps negate zone defenses and floating spare defenders). And if Smith plays forward there is no spot for Fitter.

Two, the skills noted above are also critical down back - kicking even more so. It is just so important to have players who don't turn it over from the HB line and with Salem there would be two players who not only are efficient are also able to hit aggressive, difficult kicks that create scoring chains.

Third, if Lever does not come back until say round 9 Fritter can play the intercept marking role until then.

Yes, really good point.

Not sure if this is what you meant but left foot kicks often get a bit more space to release the ball a defenders instinctively cover the right side.

Clarrie running laps, Gus looks sharp in main session. Vanders looks like he’s gonna be much better for a pre season holy heck running like a man possessed. Track looks slim but seems sore and was doing some work on his knee w/exercises lead by physio. T.S. Doing work without bern on his kicking, def improvement needed but solid base just too high most His passes atm. Bernie gave great feedback and is a natural in this role!

I can see the logic of playing Frisch in defence.  Most scores come from turnovers.  So the best pressure players are going forward and the best kicks are going back.  It’s all about getting the ball forward and if you don’t kick a goal creating turnovers in forward 50 and lack of turnovers coming out of defensive 50.  Defenders often kick inside 50 with repeat inside 50s as well.  I suspect the best laid plans don’t always work and he’ll be thrown forward at some stage though.

I reckon Marty Hore can come into the backline, which means Fritsch wont have to go back there this year. only when he drops back to help mop up when playing on the wing, which is a more suitable role for him. reckon wing/fwd flank are his best positions. thought Fritsch was a bit flaky as a defender, and them dropping him for the last game and playing J.Smith instead, probably shows they were/are looking for someone stronger than Fritsch to play back there on a more permanent basis.

His left knee. See below. Got some smalll consoling from Physio on his way off hopefully just a niggle.. 4C8EFB43-5CD1-4FF8-B229-50568ECABF1A.thumb.jpeg.5828a449461575f5678394da291feba1.jpeg

Could be related to the knee scope he had which Misson referred to the other day.

Fingers crossed it’s nothing major.

Get down there @It's Time

Ha! Thanks for the vote of confidence Ethan. But I'm back in Sydneytown. That was an unexpected trip due to an illness in the family. But I can say with a great deal of confidence about today's training the following :-

They are training the house down. It's more organised than I've ever seen it. Everyone has gone to another level. etc etc

Hope that helps.

If you believe the PR, dropping Fritsch was about height and matchups. WC were playing 3 talls.

I really like the idea of Fritsch, KK and Salem rotating the HB sweeper / wing positions.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

    GAMEDAY: Rd 07 vs Richmond

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

    OOZEE by The Oracle

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
