Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Have you seen his frame ?

90kg for Petracca would not only be counterproductive it would be ridiculous.

You think he should weigh 3kg more than Viney ?  96kg is fine for Petracca's physique.

i'd agree with you if we were discussing nrl  ?

i'm reasonably happy with tracc's progress and prospects. I'm not saying outright that 96kg (if true) is too much for him. I just don't know, but it does suggest to me that it's possibly a small concern worth exploring and discussing

I'll have to tell premiership captain Shannon Hurn he's too heavy at 187cm and 95kg.

Just have some faith in the footy dept.  A player's ideal weight is pretty simple for conditioning coaches.

One season, When Tony Lockett was still at St Kilda, it was decided that he should trim down and look more like a modern day footballer. The experiment didn't last long - without his bulk he was not as effective and it wasn't tried again.

Similarly with Tracca. His game relies on his intuitive ability to get to where the ball is, holding his ground in marking contests and ball extraction from packs and delivering to advantage. He is not a fleet footed runner like Jones or Viney and doesn't try to be. On the other hand, they don't try to play his style either.

Both styles add balance to the team and game plan. We should stop comparing Tracca to the image we have created and let him be the player that he is.

Yes. But all that assumes he is, in effect, a power forward. Which personaIy I think is his best position.

But if he plays as a 50 50 forward mid then he will need to lose bulk. I've read some comparisons to Gary Ablett and, which I reckon are valid but ga and never really played as a mid. De goey is the player I reckon trac most resembles in modern footy

one too can always find examples of players who reduced a bit of weight and improved their games

cherry picking the odd example to prove one's pov proves nothing

frankly the whole question is not that big a deal for me. i just thought it worthwhile exploring because it looks a bit of an outlier in today's modern game (not tony lockett's era) where a percentage point here and there can make a difference worth pursuing

I don't understand the offence that so many are taking to the comments of Petracca's physique.  I haven't seen posters saying that he is fat, undisciplined or lazy; it's not a skin-folds issue with him.  I am however of the belief that he would have a much more consistent impact on matches if he was lugging around 90kg frame as apposed to a 96kg one.

He's the 7th heaviest player on our list and the 22nd tallest...

I'd like to know his BMI.

well we are "arguing" about his weight based on figures that are a year old for all we know

until we get some current verifiable data it is somewhat meaningless

i tend to agree that if he was in fact 96kg then at least on the surface this would seem sub-optimal (imho)

Nah... what is about is his inconsistencies and drop offs, in focus and involvements.

I do Not want to see him become a one dimensional player, locked at half forward.

Our midfield is getting stronger... and IF Pertracca is to ever build his tank up.  He has to start to really do it now...

He is 23 Yrs old now.   Not 21Yr old... that's 5 Yrs into the system already.

IMO should be further advanced in the area of endurance, than he is now.

I don't want another yze at forward-pocket..saying...  "Oh,,, I can't run on the ball,  because my fitness isn't good enough"_  sort of carp.

Surely we are past this stuff,  when players are not fully ready, and committed.

If this guy ever gets as fit as a boxer is,  he could be dynamite.    As he is, he's a half-hearted, half way sort.

You posted his height and weight only a few posts ago. The exact things you need to work out BMI. The fact you dont know this combined with raising BMI in a conversation about elite athletes shows that you really dont have any idea what you are talkkng about.

So tell us than smarty, where/what is his BMI. compared to Vanders BMI ?  put it up there for us to compare...

Do the whole senior list from the clubs website player info.

So we can all see and judge it for ourselves.

Inform us all with these stats.

Sometimes (more often than not) to quote Frank Zappa, as a player "you are what you is and that's all it is"...

How many people thought Robbie just needed a bit more muscle on his sleight frame?

No matter how much he tried it was never going to happen

Trac  has a big frame, he's a big guy, always has been & he uses it to his advantage.

He's not over weight or muscle bound like Conlin & Templeton back in the day...

There's a bit of Dipper about him, could you imagine a scrawny, skinny looking Dipper?

BMI is a rather useless measurement for mesomorphic and beefy athletes.

It’s probably why skin folds is the main metric players are measured by.

He will never get as fit as a topline boxer, there are not too many footballers who would reach that level nor have there ever been.I take it you are assuming he is half-hearted about his football.

To be honest, I don't really understand the need for preuss. Yes, he is a good ruckman but I don't want either of Gawn or Preuss resting forward. Neither of them can kick to save themselves and missed goals are so costly these days that anyone who isn't a good kick for goal shouldn't be in the inside 50m. Another reason why Petracca should never play deep forward.

We’ll just have to wait and see what the plan is with the big boys. Also, a tad harsh on Max, his kicking for goal improved and was accurate during the finals when drifting forward.

Can’t say I’ve seen too many of the 8 games Preuss has played so far but I’m guessing you have seen a big enough sample to make that judgement.

All this talk about Petracca's body shape/fitness is mildly amusing and symptomatic of the off-season blues. I suggest the doubters get down to Gosch's and have a closer look first hand... if that is out of the question, show some respect for the supporters who have. Petracca is tracking very well and we are blessed to have his unique talents. He is powerful, intuitive and highly effective in the role he played throughout a successful finals campaign... If it ain't broke...!

CPs upper body looks trim. No handlebars and as someone mentioned, not burdened by body builder type muscle ""assisted"" development.

What is striking is how huge his upper legs or thighs are in contrast to his torso.

That's just the way he has been made, with his genetics.

Can’t help but agree hw he has powerful legs which provide that burst and strength he is at his best one on one and has a good footy brain, hopefully he will continue to work hard and gain that continual improvement through to his hundredth game and beyond. I love his enthusiasm and joy in winning.

Thats the main reason so many football observers call him a "bull". Cant remember the last player i saw who could stand up in a tackle with 2 players hanging off him the way Petracca does. Tree trunks for legs that have genuine power in them.

I still think some of the hype (party self-created) around CP is way overblown, but he is at least improving and giving himself a chance of living up to his potential. Needs his statement year NOW or he may well start to lose that supreme self-confidence.

Im still waiting to see him play angry. Use that bulk and start smashing bodies Trac

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
