Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Sounds like , from what Bernie said, Demonlands concern was correct re Mays fitness and skin folds. Sounds like he has buckled down and dropped a couple of dress sizes which is pleasing.

...meanwhile in Freo, their star recruits are smashing it up at the pubs and clubs.

Quoting from a SEN report on an interview with Bernie Vince -

“I’ve liked the look of Tom Sparrow,” Vince told SEN Breakfast.

“He is one that has probably stood out to me. Really strong body, really willing to learn."

“It’s a big wrap, but he reminds me a little bit of Patrick Dangerfield’s body shape and the way he goes about it.

“He is just a bull. He is going to be a big man when he has done a few preseasons and spends a bit of time in the weights room.”

                                       ...

What do the track watchers think?

I must admit, I liked the look of his highlight reel because of his size, power and attack on the ball.

Having this kid drop through to our pick is gold. I still believe the first rounders are talent but know it. The second round beyond these guys need to work to show what they have.

This boy will be another Oliver. Put him in your dream team as he will feature early. Has big wraps and I believe he will deliver.

Hasn’t played a game yet but I can assure you that Goody, knowing a bit about SA footy, would have had this guy on the radar!

He's listed at 182cm in his draft profiles but looks a bit taller in the training photos...Hard to tell though.

Might have grown a bit since.

Maybe @Satyriconhome could ask the question?

Listed as 180 and I presume would have lost at least half an inch with the alopecia . https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Andy_Lovell

I asked him what he thought of Bernie's statement, answer 'no pressure there'

No good on heights, seems to be same height as Neitschke, was walking with him at end of session

Solid body and attacks his training, I expect he’ll play well at VFL level and get a go at some stage of the season.

Likes to take guys on at training which has come with some mistakes. I think he’ll be similar to Harmes and have some ups and downs over the early years with decision making errors. If he really can be dangerous as a forward that will increase his chances of playing often early in his career

Let’s not jinx him. I just hope he can develop without the added stress of expectation placed on him. We know what that has done to previous draft picks.

If Dangerfield and Patrick Cripps had a baby and that baby had a baby with Nat Fyfe and Dustin Martin’s baby, that baby would be Tom Sparrow.

I got suspended last year for making a similarly tongue in cheek post.

This is key... IMO

Let him deeVelope in some shadows, until he shows consistent form.

Dangerfield comparison is pie in the sky stuff, personally I'd be happy if he replaces vandenBerg down the track. Vanders is a pretty dodgy kick too but worth his weight in gold.

I'd say that Vanders only takes half the footsteps in a match, that his near opponents are taking.

Step lightly Vanders...  and take no prisoners.

And like many Melbourne players, he never lived up to his perceived potential.

To further hijack the Tom Sparrow Thread, Andy Lovell became quite ill for a time, I’m not sure what the problem was, but he missed quite a few games as I remember. I was at Princess Park for a game against Carlton when he returned, a couple of Carlton supporters near me couldn’t believe how gaunt he looked (and neither could I), he looked a different person! At his best he was excellent but his best was short lived I’m afraid.

And back to the Tom Sparrow Thread: if Sparrow could become as good constantly  as Lovell at his best I’m sure we will all be pleased. (Maybe buy him an axe and a few logs).

I'm not sure about Lovell not 'living up to his potential'. I thought he was a damn fine player, hampered by injury.

fans are hard judges with high expectations and are generally ignorant of what issues players have behind closed doors

that's probably true for 90% of afl players, regardless of club

To add some further flavor to this theme, I think it's fair to state that in some respects none of the talent at the MFC in thay era lived up to their full potential, because as a team they failed to bring home a flag.  It's amazing how when part of a premiership team makes average players can be perceived as superstars, with some of that praise warranted and parts of it not.

Let's hope that Tom Sparrow and many of his current cohort  of teammates can be looked back on as premiership players for the MFC one day and then we can truely appreciate any individual brilliance that the contributed beyond that.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

    GAMEDAY: Rd 07 vs Richmond

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

    OOZEE by The Oracle

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
