Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Vote Melbourne's best goal of 2018

For pure skill, I do like those ones of Melksham and Garlett hard up against the boundary and that snap of Nibbler's is pretty bloody good.  They have become an almost regulation shot for some players, but I thought that the Gawn Dog's banana/checkside from the boundary was pretty magic, not just because it was Max, but because he repeated it twice in almost as many minutes, along with the timely back-at-ya he gave the Essendon supporter.

For a moment of pure elation, I can't go past Kent's sealer against the Eagles.  Big long bom and a tough kick under pressure was a great effort and however he does or doesn't go now for the Saint's I'll alway remember and be greatfull to Dean for that moment.

I could go on to list a heap of other great goals that weren't shown, but in the honest truth of it, I enjoyed just about every one of the many goals we kicked this year and being the highest scoring team in the competition, what a feast it was.

A few to choose from but I’d go with the Melksham goal. A two step left foot dart from outside 50 at a crucial time in a final. I think that goal looks better and better every time you watch it. Wonderful technique.

If there was a vote for going off your chops goal, Hannan’s wins hands down.

Cry like a baby goal goes to Kent.

Yes definitely missed out on some good ones especially Kent’s goal for sheer importance.  Petracca kicked a few burst goals which I enjoy.

I voted for Melksham goal v Hawks in semi final.  I was a little nervous when the hawks kicked a few in the last quarter. Melksham’s goal was from 55metres on his wrong foot.  WOW! as BT roared out.  I felt it nailed the game to put it in our keeping.

Purely at the time of the match, and just what it meant to Nathan, it would have to be his goal at the start of the last quarter of the elimination final  against Geelong. In all the decades of following Melbourne I have never heard such a roar from around the ground, and it was the most loudest EVER from the members where I sit. Years ago I have been told to not barrack so loudly and sit down after a good goal but now I just blend into the crowd. The days of "good goal number 7" have gone. Thank god.

It is good to see other people’s opinions. I must admit I thought Hannan’s goal was the lay-down-misere best out of that lot

Any goal is absolutely impressive - there were many that were pure class. Nice to have to select the 'best' from so many. We are going places here at the MFC.

For that reason I'd hope the fans refrain from booing him next year when we play St Kilda. He was a key for us making finals (even though it was just one kick) and should be appreciated for that.

I'd really hope they refrain from booing Kent for reasons beyond that as well.  Though I'm sure what I'm about to say will be disputed by some on here, as Kent seemed to be a bit of a maligned character at times, my honest veiw and assessment of his time at the MFC is that he typically went in hard physically and gave good effort when he pulled on the red and blue - is it two dislocated shoulders/broken collar bones in recient years are a tribute to that.

Furthermore, though I don't think he was able to stay on the park or perform consistently enough, he endured some of the bad days of the recient history of the MFC, with his bursts of brilliance providing some much needed excitement and hope when we most needed it.  My reccolection is that his burst and run down the wing as part of a chain that setup Salem for a winning shot on goal thay gave us one of our few wins of the season against an in form/competition leading Bombers back in the depths of our dispare for one of the few wins of the season around 2013.

I also don't think Kent was being any kind of mercenary (unlike $cully) by leaving is for the Saint's, just trying to give himself a better chance to secure a regular spot and a more secure future, which is fully understandable.  Though it would partially grate on me (because I loved seeing him in red and blue), I really do hope he is able to reach his potential as a player against St Kilda...just so long as he doesn't cost us a game against them!!!

Can’t see much booing of Kent happening.

I’d rate both Kent and Tyson maybe a 2. Both chose to leave but you can absolutely understand why they did. Should be minimal booing aside from those who would boo anyone including their grandmothers for dud Xmas presents.

I wasn’t around for when Barassi went to Carlton. Anyone remember what his first match in navy was like against the MFC? Imagine the build up the AFL would give that match today. Do you reckon they would have us playing Carlton twice next year!

Kicked the most goals last season - from a gazillion i50s - and probably have the weakest pack of ten goals of any team in the comp when it comes to sheer individual brilliance.

This is exactly what Simon wants.

Not in the highlights: the high number of exceptional running team goals last year and moments of line-breaking brilliance in delivery which led to regulation goals.

Go Dees.

Wow no Kent? That goal made me cry

Following Kent so closely, I was so happy that he got that one. I was also overjoyed before the kick that the ball was in his hands to deliver the subsequent goal. I was also very sad that he struggled with injuries and played fewer games than he should have played. To my inconsistent eye, Kent was the modern day lookalike and epitome in style of the very great Hassa Mann. Shame about the tough breaks injuries cause ...

He played a 'muscle' game and barked continuous coaching tips and demands at the Carlton teammates.

Dunn, Kent and Tyson all on 0. Gave their all and moved because the writing was on the wall.

Except as mentioned before: when the Dees have met Collingwood since his departure, Dunn isn't a 0 with the senior players.

Some strange bad blood going on there.

I’m not across that.

When Dunn was carried off injured in Melbourne v Collingwood a couple of years ago he was given a stand up clap off by the Melbourne faithful.

Wasn't there a better Team Goal in 2018 where the ball went from the kick in to be a goal?  I think that would be MFC's best goal, wouldn't it? Several players involved as well......

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
