Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Cheap product, advertising revenues at the maximum rate, it gets worse and worse for the footy enthusiast...

It’s all for Channel 7. They want cheap product all sunday afternoon running into the news....

IIIRC Eddie bought the old ABC broadcast vans and got the contract to telecast the VFL games for Seven.

Wonder how this decision affects the contract. Perhaps also the vans are getting a little old and require major investment.

My cynical self is wary of a further downgrading of the VFL product.

Not sure where Eddie sits in all this, maybe he has sold the contract onto 7, i have no idea.

If the fans roll up early to watch these games, things may change. It would be great to get Reserves Footy back at every game

But i doubt we will see many more games as curtain raisers. This is just a way to fill in “dead” time so that Ch7 can have continuous product and advertising to lead into the evening news.

yes the minimum 35-45 min gap reaks of general pre-game chatter and a hundred ads pumped at you.

I would gladly subscribe to Kayo if only they had a no commentary selection or even a low key commentary selection.

AFL commentary teams could really take a leaf out of the soccer commentaries. Come to think of it the NFL commentaries are generally low key as well. Not sure why we need all the artificial hype.

agree ch 7 is nauseating and MMM is in turn actual vomit. they have turned placement ads into the commentary into a disgraceful artform. "good tackle by McDonald, a contender for the 'insert product' tackle of the day right there. as we look as the 'insert product' scoreboard.

Aah yes. The Commentate a product name in the same sentence as a piece of play. MMM do it in almost every sentence that spews out.

When I started going to thre footy you could watch the U19’s, Reserves then the Seniors. From memory  Robbie Flower went through all 3 in the one season by May. and never left the Seniors.

Remember that year ... Robbie displaying his wares to a gob-smacked Southern Stand at all levels - particularly Reserves - and all predicting just when he would debut into the Firsts. This skinny kid with blindingly acute skills in all aspects of the game.

I'm afraid to say the commentary format is what it is because it's what the viewers want. Channel 7 have tried the EPL style of commentary (as did the ABC) many years ago only to told by viewers they didn't like it and wanted the traditional AFL call style back. So, like it or not, it's done that way to satisfy the majority.

Some commentary these days is very good and I still enjoy that of Brereton - his analyses are thought-provoking and usually, very analytical. Some commentary these days is very bad - bordering on the sensationalist and false matey-matey associations with players and clubs. Some commentary these days is attempting to appease Eddie Maguire - in fact, quite an amount of it - as if his approvals lead to longevity within the commentary jobs. Most commentary these days is far superior to those of the 3 monkeys: Jack Dyer, Bob Davis and Lou Richards, a breakfast in football terms upon which most of us were regularly ill. There is a funny moment, though, within commentary, when (as admitted as his greatest embarrassment as a commentator) Tim Lane was calling a Tasmanian game  for the ABC radio and meant to describe '...an up-country punt kick...' that unfortunately '...turned out all wrong ....'!

    DEPTH CHARGE by Whispering Jack

The jubilation on the coach’s face as he danced a celebratory jig by the playing bench after the final siren sounded to record his team’s four-point victory over the Demons when the teams last met, said it all.    On that rainy Friday night at the Adelaide Oval, Ken Hinkley’s young midfield secured much more than four points on offer. The victory over one of the big dogs of the competition after a succession of wins over some of its lesser lights gave his team respect and validation fo

    HIBERNATING by KC from Casey

When they locked up the rooms for summer at the end of last year’s football season, the rooms gathered cobwebs, the atmosphere became dense and the place developed a sleepy feel. They opened up the rooms to let Casey out to play on Sunday but the team was still hibernating and they missed the bulk of the opening quarter. By the time they worked out it was game on, their opponents from Box Hill had accumulated five goals and, if the game wasn’t over, it might as well have been. For a se

A FORK IN THE HAWK by George on the Outer

For too long in the past, Demon fans became habitually sick and tired of watching the Hawks hand out thrashings to their side. But Melbourne’s empahtic 55-point win at the MCG on Saturday has truly put a fork in the Hawk and turned that history well and truly on its head. The Demons have now won nine of their last ten encounters with the other result, a draw.     And like a fork, it was the multi-pronged options that Melbourne had all across the ground.  It certainly helped that Hawthorn
