Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

I love the MCG, but...

I love the MCG, but sometimes it's worth not thinking about what goes on behind the scenes too much. This article is about US sports stadia, but could it be the same here?

Warning: For those with a weak stomach, you might want to avoid opening the article.

Thanks for that. I know you warned me but now I will never be able to enjoy a pie and hot dog at the footy again.

Semi related but I never send back food at a restaurant for fear of the staff interfering with my food.

True story related to me just last week. A waiter working in a restaurant (thankfully in Los Angeles) used to send an order to the kitchen for a steak occasionally with the words "step on it" included. She wasn't requesting that the meal be prepared quickly. Rather, she was responding to rudeness or physical harassment (bottom pinching) from the customer and asking the chef to drop the steak on the floor and step on it before cooking it.

I trust stadium food in Australia more than I do in the US. That goes for restaurant food too. I've worked in kitchens in both countries and Australian cleanliness standards far outweigh the standards and practices in the US. The things I've seen would make you vomit.

I have done 2 trips to the USA in the past 14 months, primarily to watch NBA basketball. The food in the stadiums is rubbish. The best food we had were the Mexican hot dogs sold illegally outside the Staples Center after each game. $5 for one with the lot, we loved them.

Undocumented food?

I've been to LA like 10 times for work, to the same area to go to the Convention Centre. The street food around there was amazing. If you ever return, Tom's Urban just outside Staples also has good grub but it can get packed on game day.

I briefly worked at the G in one of the many food stands many years ago. I was chip fryer extraordinaire and was constantly getting told off for waiting until the chips were golden before pulling out of the fryer. They didn't care how soggy they were - just get 'em out NOW!

Way back then, the food was all packaged and arrived in microwaveable bags (burgers and hot dogs) - inedible!  The pies etc were already in bags as was everything else. In other words, 90% the food could not be touched - apart from me slagging on the chips of course!

In my childhood days I also worked at various football grounds mainly as a purveyor of overpriced lollies and drinks.

At some grounds my employer also had the pie selling franchise... it was "hands on" to say the least.

My favourite memories were of the hot dog selling ladies where the southern stand joined the northern stand.

They had a 44 gallon drum or similar full of water with a gas ring beneath it. Into this marvellous tub went the hot dogs ... soon to emerge as items of culinary delight.

If it was a good earning day which wasn't often we would treat ourselves to a bag of jam donuts after work.

If I think about it the food at the MCG hasn't really come on that much in 40 plus years.

It has a bit, you used to be able to get, i think it was 8 donuts for $2, now they are $2.50 each. Mind you it is probably for the better, you used to get nearly half a kilo of sugar with the 8 donuts.

Interesting truth; some of the handling and preparation of food in the US makes you very ill for a few days! Best food preparation, taste and quality I found in Philly, prepared at the market run by the Amish folk in multiple stores in the open air of the market. Never had better tasting food, with generous portions and absolutely A Grade in all regards. As for the MCG, it is good for bulk readiness but sometimes one wonders about the freshness of the products on offer. Some weeks, it is almost a clearance house for accumulated fast food stocks. The hot dogs are now far inferior to what these were a few decades ago - but the beer is far better from the tap.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
