Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Tweet from Mark Stevens @7NewsMelbourne

Can reveal Jake Lever having a procedure on his reconstructed knee today to ease issues with irritation to scar. Been troubling him in recently. Dees stress it is minor and he will be back on track on Monday. Frustrating by-product of surgery. Knee itself fine.

Oskar Baker - did 2 hammies in the back end of last year, probably just a slow build up
Angus Brayshaw - was in the main group last week but called for the physios a couple of times
Mitch Hannan - think he's had knee problems in both years, had an op
James Harmes - had a shoulder op, seems to be fine
Marty Hore - unsure, but is doing a fair bit in rehab, paired up with Melk
Jayden Hunt - had shoulder surgery, doing a fair bit on the track
Neville Jetta - had knee and shoulder procedures
Jake Lever - knee taking it's time according to Stevo's tweet
Oscar McDonald - unsure?
Jake Melksham - probably just the ankle he carried in the back end of last year, doing plenty
Clayton Oliver - legs look good, obviously hasn't done upper body weights for a while
Christian Petracca - had a knee op
Tim Smith - unsure
Billy Stretch - coming back from stress fracture
Aaron vandenBerg  - had a shoulder op, out running
Jack Viney - had an ankle procedure, doing laps, I expect they'll take him slowly

It's a long list and it's way too talented!

Lever due to it being a long term injury and Vanders and Viney with their injury histories are the guys I'm worried about.

Just a rough guess but I think Baker, Brayshaw, Hore, Hunt, Melksham should be good to go soon based on them doing more ball work from what I saw. Clarry seems fine, will just be a matter of when he can resume contact drills. Jetta and Petracca seem paired up and looked ok.

It's not panic stations now but I think we need to have the list back in single figures asap after Christmas and have as many of these guys right to go for the preseason games. If they haven't done enough training to play in the preseason then they're likely playing catch up during the regular season which is a risk of further injuries.

Would love to know how this list compares to other clubs at this stage.

It's certainly more than the average that we've had. Playing deep in to September and a lot of surgeries will do that.

Players consistently in the rehab group last preseason (from what I can recall):

Hannan, Weed, T Smith, J Smith, Garlett, Kent, one or both of the young rucks at times, McKenna + Vanders (both rarely sighted outside running), Viney.

And based on the article from afl.com.au

MFC End of 2018 Injury List

Oskar Baker: Suffered a recurrence of a hamstring injury in September and the Demons are ensuring he has enough conditioning under his belt before starting him in full training.

James Harmes: Another to undergo post-season shoulder surgery. Harmes is running but won't be in contact drills until after Christmas.

Marty Hore: The mature-age draftee had an ankle operation before he was picked by the Demons with pick No.56 in the 2018 NAB AFL Draft. He and Melksham have been running laps together.

Neville Jetta: The defender had shoulder surgery in the off-season. Running laps, but won't join in contact work until after Christmas.

Jake Lever: Underwent more surgery on Wednesday after scar tissue around his reconstructed left knee left him in discomfort. Had started running before the setback and is hoping for a mid-year return.

Oscar McDonald: The key defender had a post-season arthroscope on his hip and therefore has been on a modified programme.

Jake Melksham: Melksham had an arthroscope on his ankle at the end of the season and as a result has been in rehab as he builds up his training load slowly.

Clayton Oliver: Had surgery on both of his shoulders and, like many others, won't get into work with the main group until after Christmas. Running and moving well in rehab.

Christian Petracca: Went in for a knee operation at the end of the year and as a result is in the rehab group. Running laps, but won't resume contact work until after getting back from the Christmas break.

Tim Smith: Coming back from a stress fracture in his foot. Smith is running laps and will be eased slowly back in to training.

Billy Stretch: Running laps at decent speed after having surgery on a stress fracture in his toe in July. Will build his training conservatively.

Jack Viney: Had surgery on his troublesome foot at the end of the season and is on a modified program. Will look to build his training post-Christmas.

I put the list in alphabetical order for easier reference. Not included in the list but referred to in recent training reports as being in the “rehab” group are Angus Brayshaw, Mitch Hannan, Jayden Hunt and Aaron vandenBerg who I presume weren’t considered by the reporter as being injured enough to make the list.

The disconcerting thing from my perspective is the par on Jake Lever. Before his latest setback, I thought he would be right to go early in the season but that’s now a “mid-year return”.

10 of many's best 22 with a very interrupted pre-season. Injury looms as our biggest opponent for the 1st half and maybe all, of 2019.

It's not interrupted, most are running, it is just contact and match sim they are missing, they are all doing a bit of craft work

Crossy and the rest have rehab down pat now, as per Viney last year

Is it not 1st year players either, most have had a couple of pre seasons under their belt, expect most  to be ready to go post Xmas

Maybe only Lever and Tim Smith (foot injury) the only 2 delayed

I dont post much. You have incorrectly replied or taken out of context my last 2 posts. Please refrain. I dont need you to "stick up" for the club on any of my observations. I don't rate your reports and its is not that you disagree with my posts,  it is that you make out I said something I didn't.

For the record,i) I didn't bag Garlett although I was ignoring you,  ii)I am quite sure the players I have referred to are experiencing an interrupted preseason (your inability to notice this is a giveaway to your knowledge) and iii) I made no reference at all to 1st year players.

And if you are going to reply again please dont bloke me. Bloke is not a pronoun.

No actually get my information and opinion on how they are going from the players and the fitness staff, although I keep some of the information to myself, so mine was an opinion similar to yours

I was saying with them not being 1st year players they have a fitness base

On you valuing my reporting, as if I care bloke

Right, so footy then? ?

Let's hope these players on modified programs can step it up post-Christmas. I'm not worried so much now as it is quite usual for players to be eased back into pre-season before Christmas with mostly running drills, but I'd be concerned if the rehab group doesn't shrink significantly by then. Let's see!

Thanks for the reports btw

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
