Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

So one can only comment if one attended a VFL final months ago? And a single VFL goal excuses his poor 2018 AFL season?

Righto.

Yes, I can write what I want, your opinion on anything on here is one of those I value least

Garlett, had by his standards, a poor season, but to say he wasn't interested, which equates to wasn't trying, is offensive

Going to watch Tom Swallow with great interest. He has size already but with a couple of pre-seasons under the belt I feel he will be a monster. Quite impressed with our pick-up's this year. No pressure on them but  in a couple of years will start to push for selection.

I would have delisted him after that GF performance, which was probably the worst performance I've ever seen from a senior player at that level.  It was doubly worse because it happened in the biggest game of the year.

I've been a big Jeffy fan, but i agree, that GF performance was atrocious! When we needed senior heads to stand up he was MIA.

He's actually lucky he's still on the list. Has a big challange ahead of him next year if Spargo development goes to another level.

Offensive to who exactly?

Sorry I thought it was Hutchins' fault they lost, he was there trying to get on the end of a disjointed attack feeding off an undersized ruck division and outclassed midfield, my bad

My point if he wasn't interested he had the opportunity to feign an injury and get out of the atrocious conditions at Port but didn't, put his body on the line and kicked the sealer to actually get them into the final

Ohh so its their fault that he couldn't get a kick...right..

Not to mention the addition of Toby Bedford to the list.  Hopefully he is up to the challenge, but he will need to impress big time over the pre-season to earn a spot back in the side.  Goody doesn't have time for blokes who don't chase and get involved in games enough.

Playing the man again.

Garlett lost interest and compared to others in the team delivered a pea hearted effort for the second half of the season. He's lucky to still be on the list. Don't need to attend every game to see that!

An experienced, creative small forward was exactly what we needed leading up to finals this year. Spargo was clearly exhausted but battled on manfully. The positive of Jeffy's MIA is the finals experience Spargo flourished in.

Hopefully Jeffy turns the corner, is fit and eager to get into the 2019 season.

Following your example hero, still on the list because obviously FD have a different opinion to some of the experts on here

Needs a big year, surprisingly he knows that

No comment on my assessment og Casey Grand Final, or will that spoil your argument?

We also just rookied a small forward noted for his tackling pressure in Kade Chandler.

True, and it also highlights the fact that we see this as an area of need since our finals campaign ended.  As Moonie mentioned above, Spargo battled on manfully, but having someone at the feet of our forwards who can buzz around, kick a few and put on some tackling pressure would have been super handy.  Garlett can play this role but was horribly out of form, through either a lack of effort, unwillingness to work super hard for it or he was blanketed by some good defensive teams.  Probably a combination of all three to be honest, although I think most would agree his efforts were pretty poor when he was in the senior side.

Jeffy can still have a role to play, but he'll need to work super hard to get a chance at doing it.

Name calling.

IMO, he's on the 2019 list because his trade value was zero, has a contract for 2019 and some on the FD hope he may turn the corner, as do I.

That's it from me. Let's move on, unless you can't...

Agree with your second sentence.

Despite all the speculative opinions, we don't know what else may have affected his form.

And I am not a fan. But, I can see the sense in allowing him to play another season given his contract status.

Even if we see some Garlett magic in 2019,  we will need to see consistent Garlett magic for him to be selected and retained in the team. And that means doing so at Casey first.   We know that competition for spots is going to be intense.

I'm intrigued by our treatment of Jeffy in the past 12 months. He's exactly the sort of player that doesn't fit our system anymore, but can snatch a victory still when he's on by bobbing up and kicking a few (ie. the Brisbane game).

I was expecting his delisting too. He simply doesn't attack the contest hard enough.

However, given we've kept him, I suspect we think he can turn things around or they think he's good depth. Particularly, with the departures of the likes of Kent and Bugg.

But doesn't he have another year on his contract? Delisting wouldn't have been possible, although a "negotiated retirement" might have been if both parties wanted it.  (I'm not buying into the debate of whether he should still be playing; just making the point that contracts require adherence from both sides.)

My understanding is you can delist and pay out, but you're right. I suspect his contract is the main reason why he wasn't moved on.

Tyson looked like a champ when we was shyte.

Unfortunately I think Jeffy is suffering a similar set of circumstances.

Close checking can slow him down, affecting his performance and space-finding; a close defender can work him over fairly easily it would seem. At the same time, he has an enormous upside to his game in several key regards which must elicit deep respect and admiration; therefore, here's hoping that his game skills and opportunities expand in the pre-season and into the season itself as he is extremely valuable as a player in form to the team.

We didn't need the list spot and I assume we didn't have much room to squeeze salary in to last seasons cap, so there was little to gain by forcing an early retirement as long as Jeff turns up in shape and willing to work.

Given there's an opportunity to add a rookie up until March and again mid season we may as well keep him training until the games start. If he's showing an aversion to contact and little form at Casey I'd expect the club would negotiate a retirement, probably by June would be my guess.

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
