Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

I thought he got better as the game went on. Needs to get used to the pace of AFL. I think there's something we can work on.

Having said that, I look forward to seeing May and Lever together in our backline. Hore then becomes depth.

First game at senior level and thrown in the deep end with little support down back, I thought he got a little better as the game went on also. I’ve never said a bad word about Oscar however he had a stinker yesterday, depending on how he goes before Lever gets back I wouldn’t be against dropping Oscar and leaving Hore in the side.

He's also only 190cm tall, not a key back at all. Does need a few more kgs too. Has the ability to take a grab and do some decent intercept work, but he would do better as an intercept sweeper once he picks up on the pace of AFL.

Hore 190cm (84kg)

Lever 195cm (91kg)

May 193cm (100kg)

Petty 197cm (89kg)

Omac 196cm (100kg)

Frost 194cm (93kg)

The sooner Petty is ready for AFL the better. His disposal and decision making already appear to be far superior to OMAC and Frost's.

A back-line with May, Lever and Petty looks so much more appealing (purely for the fact that there is no OMAC or Frost in sight).

After reading the hype filled posts on Demonland re Hore over the past three months I was expecting to see a ready made role player at AFL level.

Harrison Petty was thrown to the wolves last year, but at least he was 18 and still developing.

Hore is 23 and was woefully out of his depth yesterday. He is not tall or strong enough to play key position and isn't mobile enough or kick well enough to play anywhere else. Sometimes there is a reason players get overlooked for five drafts in a row.

Our Collingwood trades have gone badly for last 5 years. Kennedy, Lumumba, Dawes and now Hore. Looked very slow and disposal ordinary at best. Reminds me of a slow Wagner in defence. Not good enough for AFL.

Hopefully I’m wrong!

Hore needs more strength and kgs.  There's ability, but physically he's not ready.

Unless it's a really good training program adding more weight would only slow him down and decrease his endurance, neither of which are strong points already.

Even if he's thin and a little underweight at 23 he should have the core strength to hold tackles and hold position against most opponents. He might get pushed off against a genuine powerful player but not by the average AFL player.

It looks to me like he just isn't up to the pace of the game. Won't be the first or last good VFL player to have that problem. The good news is there's plenty who have struggled with their first game or even season then been up to it once they get comfortable. Nathan Broad from the Tigers is a good example. He looked like the worst player I've ever seen in his first few games, before becoming a very handy addition for the Tigers over the last two years.

Conversely they have traded quite well - Dunn and Howe ?

Does it ever occur to you that you overthink things ?

The guy isn't playing midfield where you need to be an aerobic beast.  He needs to get stronger in the position he plays so he can stand his ground in contests, body up, and make tackles stick.

He's never going to become so muscle bound that he can't cover the ground.

I saw the same as most.  Not strong enough when placed under physical pressure and on a few occasions when he did have time, he panicked and bombed it.

He has a long way to go, he was however working in a defence that was not functioning as it should and there was little opportunity to zone off and pick off pressured kicks into their forward line.  That is probably his go.

I would like to see a third tall(ish) that also has the agility and strength to play a Riewoldt or Darling.  Those types will destroy this bloke at this stage.

The story of the night for me. 9 marks to go with his 20 disposals. I watched him against Box Hill and he was bloody ordinary. Completely different player tonight.

Thanks for shoving it right back at me Hore!

Agree he was ordinary against Box Hill and played a nice game tonight. Hopefully he can keep improving and put on a few more k's of muscle and we might have found another player.

Standout performance, I sat on the centre wing watching tonight. Always made it to the contest, swept really well and deserves a run next week

Deserves to hold his spot regardless of Jetta's fitness. Was very impressive tonight.

Hard to believe some were calling for his head after his previous and only game of AFL footy. Albiet VFL, he's a two time B&F winner, so he can clearly play and will only improve the longer he's in the team

Always different what you see at the ground compared to on tv. Hate watching it on the box, can't see the whole goings-on.

2 ordinary preseason games, a bad debut and possibly an average VFL game (I didn't see it so I can't comment). Wasn't exactly expecting much and he was excellent. The intercept mark where he cut across a forward was very important. Leapt at the ball and punched decisively. Kicking was still a bit haphazard and he rushed some disposals but it was a huge leap forward.

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin ventured down to Gosch's Paddock to bring you his observations from this morning's Captain's Run including some hints at the changes for our ANZAC Eve clash against the Tigers. Sunny, though a touch windy, this morning, 23 of them no emergencies.  Forwards out first. Harrison Petty, JvR, Jack Billings, Kade Chandler, Kozzy, Bayley Fritsch, and coach Stafford.  The backs join them, Steven May, Jake Lever, Woey, Judd McVee, Blake Howes, Tom McDonald

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
