Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

I'd prefer to reserve my judgement on any player like Corey and give them a chance without making instant prognostications. A few years ago we might have said that about James Harmes and Neville Jetta.,

Or a VFL player like Fritsch.

Even our rookies are getting better. I am not a fan of Josh Wagner, but he is a solid depth player. Now if his brother is anywhere near his brother then that's a fine pick up.

Will be depth at best.

If either of the Wagner's jump in to our 22, it will mean some players have gone significantly backwards, and I will worry about our finals chances, let alone a flag chance.

I wonder how many said this about James Harmes or Alex Neale-Bullen.

Players can develop.

Exactly. or a rookie like Vandenburg.

I think our supporters look down on depth players who may not seem as gifted. but the new coaching dept are developing later draft picks and rookies.

So much is mental and I think blokes at 18 can be very immature in general life and can develop a lot in the next few years and settle a bit. this can reflect in their football. winning a VFL B and F is nothing to look down upon.

He's the better of the two Wagner boys. Perfect option for a rookie spot, won a VFL BnF for our affiliate club in Casey and therefore he knows the club, players, coaching staff and gameplan.

Interesting photo.

In the Casey GF, one tried his guts out all game and the other had a magnificent one possession after quarter time and looked like he couldn't give a rat's. If not for the pathetic game by the Casey captain, he would have been WOG, worst on the ground.

Sad fall from grace.

Looks to have one year left to try and keep his AFL career.

Tend to agree, although I think Tyson's spot is there for the taking. One of Kolodjashnij or Hunt could step straight in, but Wagner could keep them honest.  Probably better suited to that role than Tyson in a direct comparison.

Got to add Billy Stretch to that list, I think if he is over his navicular problem he will probably get first crack and I also think/hope Baker may push for a spot this year. I liked Corey whenever I got to see Casey, he is probably behind a few but agree he will offer genuine competition for a spot.

Welcome Wags now head down and bum up. He is definitely better than his brother but that doesn't mean he'll be playing senior football any time soon. Good luck don't let a second chance pass.

Happy we've taken advantage of this rule, sounds like he was great at Casey and was a pretty high pick in his draft so must have some talent there.

Has he got the 'mongrel factor' that is appearing in the Dees' team for 2019?

The difference between all of the above players and Wagner is that the former players have always remained in the AFL system, where Wagner has had 12 months out of the system.  Yes, Jetta was delisted, but he was immediately re-drafted as a rookie.

I'd be interested to know the last player that started on a list, then was delisted, went back to a state league for 12 months, then worked his way back on an AFL list.  I wouldn't think there would be many, and if there is any at all, I'd doubt the success rate is very high.  Happy to be proven otherwise.

Pick 41 (or 43 due to academy picks), and the Lions had him as part of their academy but didn't match the bid?

Very happy with this pick up Reward for Effort and he adds some bona-fide depth to our mid field group, we are just getting stronger and stronger. Well don Wag's Jnr. !!!!!!!!!

Sam Reid at GWS maybe spent a year only as a coach and NEAFL player before resuming as a player?

Michael Hartley was cut from Collingwood, played at Coburg then to Essendon.

Sam Collins is doing it this year going up to the Suns. Same with Brooksby to the Eagles.

What about Shannon Motlop back in the day under very unusual circumstances.

As list management gets more flexible and teams get more creative in the ways they fill their list I think it will happen more often. No way to confirm but I've thought at least part of North delisting Wagner was to get as young and cheap as possible to make sure they had as much salary cap space as they could get to offer Gaff et al.

This is a smart move.  Get him for nothing and rookie. If he develops into a best 22, well done. If not we have a great player at VFL team.

I have been impressed with the way the trade period has been this year.

Needed ruck back up- we got

Needed someone back- we got

Needed outside run- we got (and believe this fella will dominate next year)

Lost - a injury prone mid/forward to siants

       - injury prone, not wanting to be here forward with all the 'potential' in the world. (i think we had a jack like that)

We also got a quality VFL player (outside run) for nicks.

We also have 2 picks in the 2nd round but have a feeling that could change. to a 1st rounder we push hard enough.

The main thing is the Dees have made it clear to other clubs we are good to deal with, so anything is possible!

I know he's gone so we tend to downplay how good a player was, but Hogan was very much proven, and is a significant loss. We need to make up his 40-50 goals.

You never let up on this Hogan business so neither will I.

Hogan has never kicked 50 goals in a season, he averages 38 goals per completed season.

Drafted 2012,

2013 - not eligible

2014 - No games - injured

2015 - 20 games  as a 20 year old - 44 goals

2016 - 21 games 41 goals

2017 - 10 games 20 goals

2018 - 20 games 47 goals

Hogan has kicked 152 goals, played 71 games. 5 years on list for 71 games

In the time he has been available to play we have played 112 games Hogan has missed 41 games injured/illness/suspension averaging under 31 goals per season since available. Averages 2.1 goals per game played. On those figures he will never kick 50 goals in season. Yes he is a good player, a superstar he is not.

Tom MacDonald this year averaged 2.6 goals per game which is better than Hogan has ever done.

Edit:- Coleman medalist 2018 Jack Riewoldt 2.9 goal per game.     Since 2014 Riewoldt has played in 115 games missing none.

Or in the same time that Hogan has kicked 152 goals Riewoldt has kicked 287. Hogan is no superstar.

As expected, minimal success, if any.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
