Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

There is some disturbing stuff in that article. Good on him for having a goal and doing everything he can to achieve it, but you wonder how he will cope if footy is taken away from him for some reason (injury, illness, not good enough, etc). That kind of behaviour only comes from over bearing parents, and rarely ends well.

He and his Dad Nick are rusted on Hawks.

His Dad inherited The House of Golf business.

Anyone remember The House of Golf ad 10 years ago when a skinny blond bloke was looking up from a deep bunker ?  His Dad.  The ad was played on loop.

My Boy played at East Malvern Knights with Bailey when he was about 8.  Even then Bailey was fast and strong.  Although I thought his skills lacked a bit of polish.  I'm probably a hard marker.  :)

I reckon an interstate club should be nervous about taking Smith.  Who knows when, but I reckon he's a monty to come back at some stage.  Probably to his beloved Hawks.

I get the no alcohol thing, that's fine. Good for him. I know most kids have had plenty of drinks by 15 yet alone 18 but some haven't and if he's that committed to his footy then I kind of get that you'd go why even have a first drink? Can't miss what you've never had. There's plenty of other ways to unwind.

The obsessive training concerns me. Especially the obsessive training with the dad, he might not be actively pushing him but he's condoning it. Surely there's a point of diminishing returns where you're just running up miles on a young body? Maybe he's the next Brent Harvey and can go for ages but what if he's the next Chris Judd who's body wasn't the same after about 25 and was pretty much done after 30?

The obsessive diet concerns me even more and makes me worry he's not far from an eating disorder. He wouldn't be the first footballer. Weighing food and planning a diet is fine, but where's the harm in other people cooking for you or eating out at restaurants you trust? Combine that with the intermittent fasting and it's worrying behaviour. He's already drinking coffee every day - despite not liking it - to stay focused in school because his brain is crying out for some food!

You most certainly can.

It's fine not to drink but just because you have one drink, doesn't mean you'll turn into a raging drunk.

You didn't play at the Knights yourself did you? That was my old club.

There is a fair bit of meh factor about this for me.  Clayton Oliver and Max Gawn were busy eating meat pies and left over pizza in their draft years and it hasn't exactly held them back.

Is it possible that this bloke is only outperforming his peers at U18 level due to his ultra proffesionalisim, only to be overtaken once they get on the same programs?  Maybe, maybe not.  Good luck to him, would be interesting to come back to this thread in a few years time to see how it has all panned out.

Ah. No deal then. I also thought I might have coached your son at Lloyd Street, where we played in the same East Malvern footy jumpers.

The Guy is a fruit loop. Stay away MFC wouldnt fit in, way to obsessive. Does he have any other interests other than footy?

Choir boy written all over him, He'll be laid out at the first go at asking, how is he going to develope an AFL body with that diet.

Maxy and Clarry would be giggling at all this.

This guy sounds like he’s on a one way trip to a mental breakdown to me, but that’s 100% rank amateur psychology for me. He’ll have no trouble adjusting to the professional demands of AFL footy, but he’s going to be culturally different to most footy players. Who knows what effect that will have - he may end up a social outcast or he may be able to positively influence it, or it might not have any effect at all.

I don’t feel like any of us are in a position to tell how his fastidiousness will translate in to an AFL career, so I can’t conclude “steer clear!” or “get him!” like so many of you seem confident to do. It’ll be interesting to watch play out all the same.

No I haven't. But I'm very suspicious of the idea that an 18 year old shouldn't eat until after 2pm. I get the point of fasted cardio before school, but what's wrong with breakfast at 8:30 before class, lunch at lunch time and dinner at dinner time!

Fasting and intermittent fasting has been a dietary, health and religious habit for thousands of years.

These days traditional medicine incorporates intermittent fasting as an aid to better health, think 5/7 diet.

Western civilization would be healthier with longer lifespans if people incorporated fasting as part of their lifestyle.

Full-time sportspeople have to be sensible about it but it is sustainable particularly for weight reduction and management. In addition, there are many liquid supplements that provide protein and energy without the need for 3 meals a day.

It has great benefits managed in moderation.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
