Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Daniher kills us every single time. He generates 5+ shots on goal against our defence. Absolutely owns us. The only reason we've beaten them the last two times is his poor kicking. The last time he kicked straight, they beat us.

He May not from now on. He will be Mayde to earn every possession.

The Sheil deal stinks.

They are rorting the cap.

I am certain of it.

Time will prove me right.

In 2018, Essendon had about 70,000 higher total attendance at home games than Melbourne did.

For the effect of the Darwin and Alice Springs games, knock 40,000 off (crowds being 26,000 instead of 6,000 is a fair enough call I'd say)

Counted that way, the difference is about 5%, ignore that effect, the difference is still only about 10%.

Essendon ain't what it used to be. Seems like, for some reason, a layer of their support may have been brushed off by accident.

And Melbourne are a lot more fun to watch, too.

My feelings towards Essendon are the same as most posters.

However, references to the past now seem well....very dated. A little like Demon fans consistently referring to our dark days. Its simply time to move on.

In regard to performance enhancing substances there are no clean skins, individually and collectively.

However, Essendon's coaches, administration  and players have changed and we have 3 of them.

They are going to be a real threat over the next few seasons. Well balanced, pace to burn and high intensity.

They are on the rise.

Perhaps it is time for them to change their nickname. Is that the correct definition? "Bombers" has so many negative connotations in this age. I would think that name was adopted to celebrate the destruction of Germany in WW2 by Bomber Command, something that now seems rather less  glorious with the benefit of hindsight. Dresden and all. They should adopt a name that celebrates a profound and unique achievement in the modern age. I propose The Chemists.

I had Essendon in my 8 this year. I've really rated them for the past two years. That is, I've really rated their list.

They've actually got a really good list balance. Yes, okay, maybe they lack inside depth, but they will challenge next year if they can keep Daniher and Fantasia on the park.

Adding Shiel to that midfield makes them extremely dangerous. I noted a few Demonlanders don't rate him, but I think he's a star and will add not only inside hardness to their midfield, but more breakaway pace.

My concern with Essendon (from a Melbourne point of view) is their leg speed and potential speed of ball movement. If they get it right next year, they'll murder us on the outside.

I think Worsfold is past it, but there's a chance with his list that he could pinch a flag in the next 2 years.

When they click they can be very good but a flag? I see top 4-6 as their ceiling. Fact is Bombers sell so of course spring/summer articles about the Bombers being flag favourites are going to draw eyes. Same things were said last year, how'd that turn out.

Couldn't stay out of this little "bummer" session any longer.....

Shiel, anyone who combs his hair for three hours before every game, will fit in real well with this mob. Better than where he used to be  with "Kelly" itis.

Daniher, i think, is either past it, leg/head wise or the family are in his ear about a new start.

Sheedy mark 2, sorry players are looking for something different.

TWSNBN would do well to think of another name, and need to buy some Carlton sized brown valises.....for umps, AFL retirements etc.

Sheil must be the greatest footballer to ever play the game if Essendon are to improve that much. They will improve but they are not premiership material. 5th to 8th is where I see them.

I'm not saying they need to have the boots sunk in at every opportunity. I'm saying in what universe do they of all clubs deserve such a reward over a club like the Dogs, who recently won a flag, and went through a stretch of something like 5 years without a Friday night game?

Possibly not. But it would be a lot easier to accept if they had been properly punished in the first place and more significantly if so many sycophants in the media and elsewhere hadn't bent over backwards to excuse their disgraceful behaviour.   A bit like cover-ups being worse than the crime.

This has been hashed over for ever.

We just have to accept that the AFL, the footy media, the clubs, the players, every tom, [censored] and harry, have common interests.

Again, its marketing, revenue, commercial interests that control not only what happens but how it is presented.

The AFL and their apparatchiks have been re-branding Essendon and attempting to extinguish the past for the last 3 or 4 years.

Giving them a great fixture gets crowds back, TV ratings up, and an opportunity to talk about the new Essendon powerhouse.

And in time history will be rewritten consistent with common principles of revisionism

And don't get me wrong. I hate Essendon with a passion. They're a blight on our competition and should have been sat out of the league for a year and not allowed access to the first round of 2-3 drafts. Their 'sanctions' were far too weak.

There are plenty of academic papers which discuss punishment versus rehabilitation. Clearly the AFL prefers the latter. And for the long-term good of the AFL competition, that's probably the right call.

What have they done to deserve 5 Friday Night games FMD. Good Friday thrown in for good measure absolute [censored] disgrace. This is the same club that bout shame on our great game, now they are getting rewarded left right and center without making the 8.

Fascinating...as I grow older, I have become very interested in reading  histories from alternative aspects and understanding the power of written histories. India under the British from the viewpoint of the Indians is an easily accessible example.

A useful piece of trivia.. there are actually three people who could rightly claim to be the "founder" of Singapore.

After Raffle's death his widow wrote a book pushing his story forward as the new Clive etc to enhance her chances of getting a pension from the East India Company and as they say "the rest is history."

Hopefully the dark lessons of history that came from the EFC drug saga are not lost but I suspect like in many other areas we will repeat it.

Its interesting that the AFL has put its chips on Essendon on the back of their 'successful' trading...last time I looked their only trade of note was Shiel.

Last year the AFL put its chips on Carlton who have now been banished to day games (only two night games).  Backing Ess could easily backfire, not as spectacularly as Carlton did but backfire nonetheless.  But hey, couldn't happen to a 'nicer' club!!!

India is a great example Jim.

We need to be concerned where it incites racial, religious and ethnic differences.

Or where it suggests that cheating did not happen.

An apology if it's been mentioned: according to KB and Doc the EFC is offering a 2-ticket, 1 game membership for $25. That should see their membership hit the 100k.

I could do the maths, (but won't)and  calculate how many of these mships Paul Little could purchase with the $6.5b he reaped from the sale of Toll.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
