Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

If he’s there at 23 then surely we take him. Hasn’t put it together consistently yet, but he’s got all the attributes to be a damaging and dominant player.

Does anyone have the jumping test results from draft combine? This guys got the best leap I’ve seen in years.

Footy ability. Athleticism. Big body. Think Paddy Ryder type. Would be a steal at 23.

Jason Taylor on the Inside Melbourne podcast never went in to specifics on players but was asked about whether we needed a key forward. Can't read too much in to his response which was basically if they're good enough we'll look at the key forwards, but he did mention we've got Austin Bradke coming on to the list and it might be a case of reassessing the tall talent in 12 months time.

I wouldn't hold your breath expecting Williams to be picked at either of our early picks.

Yes agree. Taylor will focus on mids for 23 and 28.  Brings guys like O’halloran, McKenzie, Hamill and Turner into the mix.  Perhaps it’s going to be a pace focused draft. Unlikely to see Williams in red and blue.

I concur. With Gawn & Preuss as our main men in the ruck and Bradke being developed, there’s not much room for Williams. A more mature ruckman as a back up makes more sense.

There's definitely going to be some decent mids still available at our picks in the 20s, but I still feel we need another key forward on the list to develop, and Williams is the best of what may potentially be available.

From the little I've seen of the mids, O'Halloran looks the goods across multiple matches. He's got good ball winning ability, pace, good burst from stoppages and can push forward too. Apparently a very good leader also, but may be gone by our picks.

I've only seen Turners highlights package, but jeez it leaves a lot to be desired. Headless chook with poor disposal.

I’m putting this name out there as a possible pick # 23 selection at the draft. He would make a good understudy to our two main key position forwards and would have plenty of time to develop at VFL level.

Callum Twomey’s 2018 Phantom Draft has our first pick at 29! How does that work? ?

Matching picks due to Academy, Father/Son etc will mean our first pick is around 30. The player we'll be drafting is essentially pick 23 though, as the others bumping our pick back were not available to be taken anyway eg. Blakey will be picked up by Swans after a top 10 pick is bid for him, thus pushing our first pick back.

Yes there’s Blakey , Thomas , Quaynor , Briggs ,Kelly & West as father son and academy picks. I agree with Twomey that MFC pick 23 will become more likely 27-29 by day 2.

In the mix

Xavier O’halloran- in hope

Sam Sturt - in hope

Tom McKenzie

Jacob Kennerley

Fraser Turner

Will Hamill

Hopefully Toby Bedford nomination is 3rd Round or later.  We will definitely match.

I think Ayton-Delaney is still in our mix for the 3rd Round (50s) pick if Bedford nominated after this.

Agree with Harry Reynolds in 3rd Round and Frank Anderson at the end (possibly at pick 83-90 wherever it ends up).

Demons look to focus on pace through young midfield additions.

Lockhart still my rookie pick. Reward and backline backup for Jetta just in case.

With Gawn and Preuss to combine for the ruck duels, I do not see Williams being needed in that role, just yet.

I do see Williams developing rapidly into a KPF of some note and as a mobile big fella with attitude within the fwd line, holding those attributes and attitudes within the game that not even Jesse Hogan could muster, as hoped and craved by Dees' supporters.

These are the things that I have seen, quoted elsewhere by the media ' judges':

'Making his impact felt for Dandenong in their convincing win over Bendigo, Bailey Williams was the focal point up forward, consolidating his draft stocks as a likely late first or second round choice. The 198cm, 95kg, key position prospect posted 15 disposals, 11 marks (four contested), 12 hit outs, four inside 50s, one goal and four behinds

What makes Williams so threatening is his aerial attack on the ball. He reads the drop well and times his run and jumps cleverly. Each time he elevated for marks on the weekend nobody could defend him. His height, reach, elevation and strength to absorb contact in the air made defending Williams an impossible task, even when double teamed in marking contests. His leading patterns are a further strength, something he does to perfection.'

If we could give him 5 minutes of goal-kicking practice from the likes of our former greats - such as the 'similarly attributed' David Schwartz  - then I truly believe we have a winner on our hands for years to come.

His work rate at times has been questioned. Dont think he's on Melbourne wish list.

With a proper footballing salary and incentives, he'd have completed his work rate awareness-raising. A junior with a critic's opinion of work rate blues? Bloody ridiculous assessment.

Why are you criticizing me. I'm only passing on whats been written about his weaknesses.

If he has questionable work rate then he won't be on Simon Goodwins list. Jeff Garlett learnt that this year.

Not criticism, just an opinion - sorry for the harshness, it was unintended.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
