Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Yep.  We don't need to be giving the reigning premier any advantage, would rather we play St Kilda or Carlton tbh.

Doesn't feel right that we are virtually selling our home game against the team that knocked us out in the prelim.

We would be looking to maximise profit by playing teams that are well supported in the NT. The WA and SA teams, particularly Crows and Eagles, ensure a full house. A Melbourne v St Kilda game would be awful.

Oh and on mmm this morning they said the Queens birthday game will be the pies home game.

Surely not...if that's then case, then a home game against Essendon (for once), or at least a second game against Collingwood and Richmond.

We will not get a home game against Essendon because they don't have a sufficient clash strip to pass the AFL's clash test.

the Darwin and Alice grounds have a capacity of around 12 and 6k respectively so I doubt that crowd numbers  drive the dollar return.

It is just so disappointing that we have saddled ourselves with this five year impediment without looking at alternatives. Even if you equate the money to two game points on average per year the incremental loss from the reduction in ladder position and associated returns makes it a line ball decision.

Did the club ever consider a membership levy for example... ten dollars per member or say a levy on blockbusters. Given the money people were willing to fork out on the GF tickets ballot that we never needed don't tell me members couldn't afford the extra $10 each season.

Did we look at playing at Mildura and having the State government fund a game a la the Bulldogs at Ballarat. How about playing in rural SA or WA and getting money from their State governments.

And of course why not just say it's Alice only to the NT government.

So many alternatives and in reality so little discussion. Commercial in confidence.... from whom... don't see many competitors lining up to take the "hot dollar."

No matter what the fixture is someone will complain, just shut up about going to the NT. We will be going there twice every year for the next 5 at least, and we will get a few 6 day breaks that does not matter, unless we get 3 in a row the team always loses the  third game.

The NT helped us recover financially and imo now we are decent we should support the NT.  We should have an advantage up there by now.  We've played it enough.

I can't see why the geniuses at the AFL can't arrange a fixture with no more than one 6 day break in a row.  Two in a row starts to hurt teams.  This year Collingwood, Port, Adelaide, and Sydney had back to back 6 day breaks.  Adelaide and Collingwood had bad soft tissue injuries.  Port ended up cooked. Three 6 day breaks in a row kills seasons and should never happen (ie us in 2017).  It's why we should have opened on Friday night.

Agree. NT has been good for us financially and last year even better winning both games. Correct me if I'm wrong but West Coast have never played at Alice so I take that as an advantage for us.

After years in the wilderness and crap fixtures we’re back, playing (arguably) the best brand of attacking footy and have a team with characters who genuinely entertain.

So it’s time for the AFL to give us the fixture we deserve and have earned.

On the NT games i had thought bubble. Would it possible to play those games back to back?

Say fly to the Alice on the Friday, play Saturday, then spend the week in the NT before playing in Darwin the following Saturday. Use Alice as training base and do all the community stuff during the week between games.

i understand routine is super important and there would be logistical challenges but they exist for both games already. And in terms of routine they fly up on the Wednesday or Thursday i think to do community stuff so they already a it out of wack.

Might help with recovery as less travel would be required and could be pumped up in the NT as the Demon week.

In regards to the Essendon game, I would have a home game and wear our clash jumper than have it as their home game, every freaking year. It may even sell more clash jumpers for more cash, but the income that game would generate would be a massive boost.

For the Collingwood QB home game, I'd be looking into what we gave up to the Pies to have it as our home game each year, and make sure whatever that was (can't recall) is also reversed. Does anyone remember 'the deal'?

WTF?

Looks like we're playing a Saturday game (and Tiges for that matter) and then need to back it up on the Wednesday for Anzac eve but the Pies and Bombers have been given extra 1 and 2 days recovery time for their Anzac day game..

I was certain we'd get a Friday game this round but I guess you've got to wear it every now and then if you want an Anzac fixture.

I think we will be the last game of the Easter Round, rather than the first game of the Anzac round.

makes sense and you could follow it with the bye.

The problems I see are accommodation costs etc (not insurmountable but not chicken feed) and more importantly the absence from the MFC home market for a three week period. If we could guarantee good FTA coverage back in Melbourne this impact could be minimised.

Technically it would be two home games in a row which would then be followed by the bye and an away game (which one would hope would be in Melbourne) .. so you could go four weeks without a Melbourne based home game.

BTW who gets the money from the attendance of MFC members at the so called make up games?

If we have to play two games I would prefer this scenario.

I'd also love to know exactly what Essendon did this year to be talked about in the same breath as us?

The AFL will promote them to the death.   They want everyone to forget they are drug cheats.

Not happening.

It could have been worse. I could have proposed the Easter Monday conspiracy.

True MFCSS would claim Richmond play on the Saturday and Melbourne get the special new Easter Monday twilight spot.

Seems Pies are home team for QB next year, alternating after that, says Tom Browne on Twitter.

Pies also getting the most Friday night games.

I would've thought one of Pert's first gigs on the job would've been to ensure we keep Q'bday as our home game until the following season.

We're already missing out on a ton of gate receipts as the away team on Anzac Eve.

Perhaps we have some blockbuster home Friday night games to offset the Queens Birthday loss of revenue??

if it's true that qb is the pies' home game in 2019, then we are looking at a big, big financial hole in 2019 with our two 'feature' games both being away contests

I dont mind it as long as at years end the teams with smaller membership bases and therefore crowds get money from a pool that the richer clubs contribute to.

This is the only time you will ever see me advocate for something resembling socialism.

The AFL let it be known that MFC would be getting a bigger share of Friday night games next year, but the only 2 we are so far aware of, are both away games. I can see it now, 3 more Friday night games against interstate teams. Lock it in Eddie.

Its going to take some very sweet fixturing for us to have a decent year revenue-wise with our 2 biggest games making us nothing.

At the very least we have earned a prime-time home game against Essendrug. Its time for others to fill the Sunday arvo slots.

Don't want to detract from the  huge Cats vs Hawks game so best with a late start, against Freo, in Perth.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
