Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Harmes is only going to get better.  Imagine training all summer with the inside mids.

Jones is ordinary out on a wing.  I think 2019 could be his last.  I'd be amazed if 2020 isn't.

Tyson is hopeless out on a wing.  I'm happy for Tyson to stay as depth on the inside, but if I'm Tyson I'm not staying.  But if Tyson is a stupid person he may be happy to.

Given Id prefer the chance to edin a premiership than not, if I was Tyson I'd stay if the were no longer/ better offers out there or if I seriously backed myself to be a better inside mid then Harmes over the next 5 years.

Personally I'll think he'll go,  but that could be a trade that hurts us longer term because I think he is worth more than what we'd get for him on the market.

Just on that as someone who went to training a fair few times Harmes did most of the training with the mids. They did a lot of stoppage and similar midfield drills with all the mids, and the most common guys who they used as the outlets were Baker, Stretch and Jones IIRC.

I still think Harmes can get better due to experience but he also doesn't really have to. I'll take his last 2 months on repeat for the next 5 years! He can go forward or back as well but he's a mid, that's what he always was, a strong body who likes the contest and following the ball.

Tyson - well he's already got some business interests with the golfing t shirts and might follow his fathers foot steps and get in to sports apparel or sports business. He might be as clever as any player on our list, not sure it's too high a bar! If he stays he surely knows he's depth and could be delisted if he doesn't improve and spends the year in the VFL. He might be happy not playing AFL footy after next year if the alternative is 2019/2020 at the Suns. I'd imagine he'd jump at a 2 year deal for another Victorian club, but we're yet to hear of serious interest from anyone. Is there any Vic club out there who doesn't have 5 inside mids with better skills and speed?

Unless we get a very good offer, I'd like Tyson to see out his contract as we wont get much in an trade at this stage.  At his absolute worst, he is very good inside midfield depth.  At his best, he's a very good contributor at senior level.

I'll back him in to improve in 2019.  If he doesn't, I'm not sure he'd have reduced his trade value by much.  If he does step up, then we've got a good player on the list, or a much more valuable one to trade at the end of his contract.

He has interest from Victorian clubs so I would think if the trade & deal is right he will be on the move.

He is a good player, it's just our list has similar types and the FD are backing others ahead of him. Will be a good addition at a club that he suits (clubs with plenty of outside run to cover) as he was for us when he first came on board.

Tend to agree in the sense that you trade to better or improve the list. The unfortunate thing is that the outside mid is almost last year's intercept marker and the KPF of the year before. Hard to see us getting much better from another club but I'm open to offers as is the club obviously.

There's a more appropriate place for Jones discussion probably in his upcoming main board review thread but suffice to say people have very short memories.  Along with Clarrie he carried our inside midfield at the start of the year before Brayshaw blossomed, Viney's first stint and Harmes amazing development. The BnF results are testament to this.  Sure he has been legitimately pushed out of the starting set to the wing which doesn't suit his game but he's too good not to be in the 22 and is 1st cab of the rank to fill any starting inside vacancy.  People should show due respect.

It's obvious Tyson has been told by the club to check out other options.  Tyson isn't driving this.  When your club suggests you seek out other possibilities it makes it pretty hard to stay.  His manager will be doing all in his power to get a reasonable deal elsewhere.

Remember how ordinary Brayshaw looked when he was played out of position? Bernie too went downhill at a rate of knots when  he moved to defence. Same thing is happening to Dom. Good player made to look ordinary by the position he's playing. I get it though, he's 5th in line for a spot behind Oliver, Harmes, Viney and Brayshaw all of whom are younger. Trade him.

The starting midfield rotation is Oliver, Viney, Brayshaw and Harmes.  If they each play 75% gametime that's 100% of that role covered.

The issue for Tyson is that he is at least 2nd in line for this preferred role after Jones.  He needs at least 2 inside mid injuries to play that role.  Not saying that can't happen.

No, the issue for Tyson is that he is too one-dimensional as a player.

He was pushed out because all of our other inside mids offer variety in other parts of their game.

Tyson is win ball at the coal face and release ball asap with quick hands.

He literally doesn't offer anything else to our side.

I wouldn't bet on it...

It might be option 3, other clubs expressing interest.

i think it's  bit of all 3...

At the end of the day it matters little.

He's either read the writing on the wall or the club has been very honest at his exit meeting.

What's the difference ?

He's also very good at running in to pockets of space around half back to receive uncontested kicks, and has nice hands if the kick is a bit loopy as well. I think that's why he was used on the wing and not dropped altogether. Unfortunately it also means he ends up with the ball in an uncontested situation which means he then has to kick it to the next target!

Big body mids and locking down stoppages were all the rage in 2014, Richmond have changed that. I'm not convinced slow insiders are any more viable than slow outsiders.

Any sources on these Victorian interests? I hope they happen for Dom's sake and for ours. I haven't seen anything conclusive. Dean Kent can get a 3 year deal on the hope he can stay healthy and get fit. Nothing nearly that conclusive for Dom.

I know that he has had some interest whether anything comes to pass is yet to be seen.

As for your insiders/outsiders point I'm not so sure they agree with that in clubland.

Despite what is said by many on here Dom can play and will easily find a home.

We needed a player like Tyson at the time we got him, it’s just a shame he’s regressed so quickly.

Salem has become a very good and important player for us.

He is very good depth and we all talk about our inside mids like both Viney and Gus haven’t had injury concerns.

Who is to say Viney can play 25 games a year? Next year? Maybe ever.

With Viney injured, we saw the value of Tyson. If he wants to stay, I’ll be happy to have him on our list. If he wants to go, I hope we get decent compensation for him.

He is not a bad player.

When Viney was injured we still didn't play Tyson inside.

Would prefer to trade pick 33 than Tyson, GC didn't even offer KK a contract, how much confidence in his concussion issues can they have.

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
