Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Farewell Dom Tyson

Here's one from left field: I wonder if we pay a good chunk of his wage if the Giants would take him back. If they lose Shiel, Lobb and Setterfield they'll need depth and Dom's best mate Tomlinson is still up there. If a bottom team wanted him by now I think they would've put their hand up to get him. The Giants might yet again have more draft picks than they need and could give us a better one than any other side would offer if we give them a depth player in return for salary. It's certainly a call I'd be making to find out.

Matthew Lloyd saying he spoke to someone close to Dom Tyson camp last night and the push was on to get him to the Gold Coast and he wasn't happy about it. Would this be the club trying to send him up there as part of the May trade?

Yeah I don’t blame him, he has his family, girlfriend, uni and all of his future basically lined up in Melbourne. And I suspect he will get interest from a Melbourne based side as well. Potentially we see him as part of the kolo deal that allows us to hang onto that pick 33

Agree Patchy. I think he might end up at Essendon.

I find it really hard to believe that the list management team would not already know that Tyson would not want to head to GC.

They would have conversations with Tyson's management and ask the question about moving to the GC, which would be shut down quickly and everyone would look at other options.

This just seems to be media trying to create stories.

Absolutely @Is Dom Is Good - Sure, the question may have been asked of Dom, and that's ok - but a 'push' would be surprising... as they actually employed him because he wanted to come back to Melbourne...no doubt they're looking at more suitable arrangements.

Who the feck would voluntarily go to GC?

Plenty of Vic clubs who could use him. He really is not a bad player, he just can’t play his best position at Melbourne.

Will go play inside mid somewhere else and be very good. He could be Carlton’s second best inside mid and free Cripps up a bit.

Agree with what @Jaded said. Tyson is a valuable player as an inside mid, but for us that position is currently well covered; playing him on the wing  this year did neither the team nor Dom much favour. He could go on to carve out a very respectable career at St.Kilda / Essendon / Carlton.

At his age I really want to hold Tyson.

I see him as aperfect replacement for Jones in the guts, and we know Jones doesn't have long left.

Personally Id have thought by the end of next year that swap would be almost permanent because I think the end will come for Jones very quickly, just like it did with Bernie. Jones will be 31 in January, while Bernie played his last season as a 32 year old but struggled. Tyson is 25 until June next year.

With all this happening, it's a given that the FD have a range of things cooking...well not even cooking ,they've been developing a whole range of relationships in the background for years... every delisting and trade will be done, because there is an improved (albeit not always straight away) balance for the team, and because they've got 'agreements' in place. For me - this is the only way to make sense of it.

Very good? More likely a solid role player for mine at a team short of contested ball mids.

He can win contested ball but is one paced, gets caught with the ball and is unreliable by hand and foot.

Part of the challenge for Dom is dealing with his slide in status from high draft pick to solid inside mid.

Jones plays on the wing these days not in the guts.

As already pointed out to you, Jones was pushed out to a wing from round 16 onwards.

Tyson can't replace a player in the "guts" if said player isn't playing in the guts.

I re-watched the first quarter of the prelim this afternoon (first time since live) and Tyson was deplorable. He needs to go. He is an inside midfielder only. We have other depth in that area. There is no need to hang onto him and we could get a pick in the 30s back (as he’s still young and a decent inside mid). Get it done

I'm aware of this,  it happened when Harmes found form in a new tagging role.

And while I was stoked with Harmes, 5 great games as a tagger doesn't guarantee a career in the center. Before that patch, he'd played his best footy on a HFF. While I'm not writing him off, I think it would be foolish to back on him replicating that form and trading our best alternative.

Also, Jones struggles on the wing or flank just as much as Tyson does, so I can't see him playing 2 more seasons out there.

Yeah, he is inside depth and that is it. He shouldn’t be in the best 22 next year. I don’t know what coin he is on but that will determine whether he is worthwhile depth.

I think this is closest to the mark.  If he is on starting midfielder coin we'll look to move him on.  Given he will face a pay reduction with us in 2020, if others will offer him starting mid coin, he'll look to move to secure that pay and opportunity longer term.

Harmes is only going to get better.  Imagine training all summer with the inside mids.

Jones is ordinary out on a wing.  I think 2019 could be his last.  I'd be amazed if 2020 isn't.

Tyson is hopeless out on a wing.  I'm happy for Tyson to stay as depth on the inside, but if I'm Tyson I'm not staying.  But if Tyson is a stupid person he may be happy to.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
