Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

I would have been impressed but (unless there are two players with the same name) you've got Mitch Maguire going to the Suns at pick 80 (in a previous post) and the Giants at 89.

Just for interest - here is a list of the Academy and F/S players in the draft and where some pundits have them.

I've seen some mock drafts with North's Tarryn Thomas going in mid 1st round.

With all those 2nd round possibilities, I can see our pick #54 going up the draft to the low 40's and pick #62 up to the low 50's - pick #53 perhaps ?

I also missed Tom Medhat as Freo next gen player.

The latest from Knighmare - phantom draft who I usually have a lot of time for but I don’t believe he’s thought this out very well - AFL Phantom Draft: Rounds 1, 2

His picks for Melbourne are:-

23. Melbourne Ned McHenry (VIC) Height, Weight: 176cm, 71kg

Profile: McHenry is this year's premier forward pressure specialist, leading the Under-18 Championships in tackles and pressure acts as a small forward. An elite endurance athlete, McHenry can also push up the wings.

28. Melbourne Sydney Stack (WA) Height, Weight: 177cm, 72kg

Profile: One of this draft's most exciting and impactful players. A prolific ball-winner and tackler who hits the ball at speed and accelerates away.

As well as those profiles read, I can’t see us taking two smalls with these picks given that we have Charlie Spargo, Jeff Garlett and Jay Kennedy Harris and will at least be considering taking Toby Bedford further down the line in the draft as a NGA player.

Here is his assessment of Bedford ~

Melbourne *bid on Bedford likely to come 30-50
Toby Bedford (VIC - Melbourne Next Generation Academy)
Height, Weight:
176cm, 65kg
Profile: Line breaker who often runs the ball 30m at speed before disposing of the ball. Prolific tackler with his application of forward pressure among the best in the draft.

Knightmare would therefore have us picking three players between 172 & 176cm. with our first three draft selections. I don’t think so.

considering Garlett and JKH are on their last legs id say its the perfect draft strategy and grab a tall late/in the rookie to work on and she'll be right

Need to pick a quick outside mid and another tall in our first two picks in my opinion .

Surely we’d pick the best available players at 23 and 28, and if they happen to be a”fast outside mid and another tall” then great. But no use choosing them if they are not the best available IMO

Yep, draft best available and trade for need.

My personal ratings would be

Lukosius a bit lower, he’s definitely talented but I just don’t think he’s a genuine power forward. Plays a bit too much like jack watts and maybe I’m a bit scarred

Izak Rankine I have on par with Walsh as the best players in the draft. He was seriously damaging.

bailey smith is interesting because he could easily play half back or mid, I think he’s got potential to be the best player in the draft if he gets the balance right.

Ive mentioned elsewhere I think Jye Caldwell has the talent to be a top 6 pick but the types of injuries he’s getting so early is a real concern... he’s an outside chance to slip through to our 23 though unlikely.

The king brothers are interesting because I think the only way an interstate team drafts them is if they can get both.

Phantom top 5.

1. Sam Walsh

2. Max king

3. Ben king

4. Bailey smith

5. Jack Lukosius

Can see a couple of the SA boys sliding a bit. I reckon the Gold Coast would be a better chance of retaining the king brothers than the SA boys.

Can’t see Ben King going at 3.   Not the same player Max is.

If GC keep their picks, I believe they will take Lukosius and Rozee.  They are best buds and more of a chance of keeping them long term.

Fraser Turner is very good. Very good. I had him around 32-35 but he appeals as a pacy outside wingman. Others however preferred at 23 & 28.

Based on highlights package there are those that statements say have pace and then there is Fraser Turner whose footage actually shows some serious toe.

Still pondering 91. The 100-1 shot.

Obviously need to see how many picks we will use. Waiting until we see which potential delisted free agents we may sign.

If we get O’Halloran, Duursma, Ayton-Delaney, Bedford, we would have got the pace and run, so we need some height.

Some older types for ruck/fwd options would be Matt Hammelmann (Redland) 21 yo or ruckman Lachlan Waddell (Old Scotch) 22 yo. , though both could be rookie options

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
