Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Pretty sure the AFL brought in a ruling to stop this. Clubs would bundle up picks to trade for higher picks. The bundled picks would be used for academy or F/S bid matching. IIRC we did that for Oliver/Weid, and it was changed shortly after. Something like that anyway

I believe they have to have as many list spots as picks they take in to the draft.

So you can’t have picks 30, 35,45 and then 50, 51, 52, 53, 54 etc all adding points but only 4 list spots.

I think teams can get around it a bit by redrafting some of their own players or taking extra rookies.

Swans might be keen to trade their first but probably won’t offer up any discount for the rights to it. I doubt we do it because I think we’ll need an even spread of 2nds and 3rds to get the quality depth in

I think it's pretty ironic that Sydney's into Vanders, he and Alex Johnson played comebacks in the same round. They've just dropped Johnson for being too injury prone.

It'd be a pity to see him go, the multitude who are saying no loss, just a fringe player are overlooking the serious competitive edge he brings. He's really handy when he gets going and is great cover if Viney has a period on the sidelines again. Also helps to keep the hard contested work going outside of the centre square.

I think with a player involved it’s more of a chance to get through.  I also think we would get a late 2nd rounder for Tyson.

Sydney need points, not necessarily a pick downgrade. They wouldn't be attaching AVB in this, unless something else comes through.

For instance Sydney pick 13 (points 1,212)

Melb: AVB, pick 36 (563 points), 46 (331 points) plus 54 (220 points), so it would nearly come to the same point value but they get AVB and we get an earlier pick. I can't see that scenario working out, so it could be another 2nd (for Kent/Tyson maybe??) that we give up, so they end up in front on points, but I think it'll be too much of a stretch to think their first pick will be involved for AVB.

 Brilliant!

Sounds like he is gone ? .  Tom Harley:  “We have been open to exploring that and had a conversation with Aaron. We have been liaising with Melbourne around that so if we could facilitate something that would be great".

Petraccas development has been trending upwards since his first year. I Expect Traccs continued improvement and stronger physicality to offset the extra vdb grunt. Id also hope we get a kamikaze atyle small forward at some point to give us that element of perceived pressure when ball is on ground. If Preuss is fwd you probably dont want to be in his way. And Steven May might venture up the ground at times and lay some big tackles.

Furthermore, VDB while a beast, does stand out due to being peak age as well. So our ageing list profile should make us more physically imposing each year. Heck, even Viney hasnt reached his peak physical presence at 24 years old.

I'm bitterly disappointed to be losing The Beast. Coupled with Tyson and Kent, I'd say that we've lost 3 of our best 26 (leaving the Hogan circus aside for a moment)

While each had their stengths and weaknesses, they were potential best 22 or at least great depth coverage in a case of one injury on their respective lines.

We need to see some genuine, ready made players added to our list to cover these losses, and I'm not convinced Kolodjashnij or Colyer are it

Agree. If we got 2-3 midfield injuries, we have limited coverage.  It’s a long year.

Swans seem to have a long list af AFL ready young talent.  If the deal goes ahead maybe we should be looking for a player swap given our list vacancies?  Any desirable realistic (not Heeney or Mills) prospects?

Do you know much about Nic Newman? Might have been mentioned already on here that he was assessing his options and might seek a trade. Has met with North I believe.

Newman is mature age 25y8m.  Debut last year 20 games mostly HB accumulator I think.  Out of favour this year 11 games because I think he is a bit slow.  Probably not what we're after.

Maybe Hewett, Cunningham, Florent, Papley, Hayward?  All likely to be a lot more valuable than AVB though.  Truth is I don't know enough about them to discriminate.

None of those 5 will be pushed out.

Yes agreed I was thinking enticed rather than pushed.

Yep. I think they are all "keeps" for Swans.

They do have a couple of blokes in the seconds who we may be looking at, or otherwise it will be a pick that we will hope to bundle and upgrade I think.

Mathew Ling? Probably unlikely as he was a late first round draft pick last year and signed a one year extension. Is a Vic kid that could be tempted home perhaps? Pacey outside mid I believe.

Sydney don't have a 3rd rounder - they have 13 and 31 (after Lynch compo).

NAB AFL Trade Radio is suggesting that Geelong's newly-acquired pick no.42 will help the Cats trade for Sydney speedster Gary Rohan.

Might end up with this pick 42 for VDB - not ideal.

Yeah I don't think that's ideal either, although if that pick then lands us Preuss or KK, then it would soften the blow a little.

As with Hogan, if VDB needs to leave for personal reasons then I wish him the best. However, I would love for him to do a full preseason, show what he is capable of this coming year and then judge him. I think he is far better than a lot are giving him credit for, and has that aura of fear around him that perhaps only Viney and Nev have in our squad. We are supposedly chasing May for that very reason. Yes he has some disposal issues, but he is certainly no worse than others in the team - like Jones, Tyson, ANB and even Brayshaw in this regard - but 2 years out of the game can do that to your skill base. IMO he needs another year before he can be truly judged.

Stick around, VDB, there is a place for you in this team.

Well that idea went stale pretty quickly - 42 now at Carlton from AFL Trade Talk:

"We have given them the Lions' pick for McCarthy, and there's some other picks involved as well ... we've on-traded it to Carlton.

We will absolutely get ripped a new one re: the terms of this trade if AVB decides to leave - pick 42 or similar will not result in us landing a player of commensurate quality/value.

Really hope he stays. Kent too (although it seems that trade's virtually done and dusted).

    DEPTH CHARGE by Whispering Jack

The jubilation on the coach’s face as he danced a celebratory jig by the playing bench after the final siren sounded to record his team’s four-point victory over the Demons when the teams last met, said it all.    On that rainy Friday night at the Adelaide Oval, Ken Hinkley’s young midfield secured much more than four points on offer. The victory over one of the big dogs of the competition after a succession of wins over some of its lesser lights gave his team respect and validation fo

A FORK IN THE HAWK by George on the Outer

For too long in the past, Demon fans became habitually sick and tired of watching the Hawks hand out thrashings to their side. But Melbourne’s empahtic 55-point win at the MCG on Saturday has truly put a fork in the Hawk and turned that history well and truly on its head. The Demons have now won nine of their last ten encounters with the other result, a draw.     And like a fork, it was the multi-pronged options that Melbourne had all across the ground.  It certainly helped that Hawthorn
