Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Farewell Jesse Hogan

We have waited a long time for Jesse to become a very good player.

so many posters on here are so used to getting excited about draft picks this time of year have you forgotten what he was major part of?

remember that time Hawthorn got Gunston up and running and then the fans wanted to trade him? Oh ..They didn’t.

Dont feed it.

Money aside there is little to enthuse about Freos list and ours is on the rise.

The FD pulled the right rein with Watts, they need to hold Hogan.

From what I gathered, it is a case of Freo contacting Hogan management and Melbourne being made aware of this. Melbourne would prefer to keep Hogan but if he declares that he would like to go home - which no one has officially reported he has, only that he is “open to it” - then Melbourne would begin discussions. But ultimately, Melbourne see hoges as a part of our future and would like to keep him.

The fact that there has been no adamant declaration he wants to leave, only “open” to a trade, suggests to me that it is perhaps his management team at work as they probably begin discussions for a contract extension with Melbourne.

truthfully, no one knows anything but my gut feeling is that it is all just noise and that hoges will stay a dee.

And if it isn't just noise we should play hard-ball.  An ambit claim with a view to at least getting a fair deal.  Of course,  Jesse is contracted for next year and previously this would have been to the club's advantage but not necessarily these days.

If Hoges is on the move and a deal can't be done we should look to be adding a year or 2 on to his current contract so as to strengthen our position.  Or stitch up a long term deal.  It doesn't necessarily become untenable if a move doesn't happen.

But I'm not of the belief that he's gone yet  but where there's smoke there's fire.  But as @Dr. Gonzo  mentioned a few posts back,  if we're in dialogue with May's management we'd need some decent picks to secure him.  We may well have hopped on the front foot but who knows?

You realise he was an Adelaide supporter as a kid? Even I would have worn a freo scarf to that game rather than barrack for Hawthorn.

Want a trophy?  Perhaps a cape to crusade against these outragists?  You guys can form a little posse to take them all down, one by one.

I'm happy to discuss it now as there is, potentially, something in it.  There was nothing before.  Now, there is.  So you talk about it.  That's life.

He may well be still very happy in Victoria and with the club and there may be nothing in it at all.  So, I'll be right there.  If not, which is something that is now being reported and which wasn't before, then the hope is the club gets the best outcome.

Cheers.

Wrong Wise. There's always been talk about Hogan and Freo. Always. The current talk is still media talk, but now you're jumping on board?? It was always going to wind up as trade week got closer. This trade period is particulary frenzied.

He might go, might not, but if you must continue, you'd do well to re-read this thread and pay attention to those of us who rationally discussed trade options 40+ pages ago.

And yes, I'd like to have a cape. Can I also have a mask and tight shorts?

We have all waited for Jesse to become a good player, and he is a good player, in fact, he is better than a good player.

But if reports are right then Hogan has 1.2 million a year to weigh up. Its not that the decision is out of our hands - it isn't. But that offer is something we can't even nearly match when Hogan is out of contract. Do we want to deny the kid a life changing payment for our short term benefit? I don't think we do, and I don't think we benefit a lot. The situations evens itself out in the short, medium and long term when you factor in draft picks - our ability to move them around - and salary cap space. We may actually be better served moving Hogan on, and he may be better served taking the 1.2 million a year. This could be a win/win for both parties.

Far more? Has this come from Jesse?  His management? Goodwin? The club? Or just mixed media reports in which "it is understood"? What's changed, apart from your nervousness? After all, he is apparently happy at the club and settled in Melbourne, which must be true, so he surely can't be traded, right????

Posters such as Bub, Febes and I have put up with a bunch of outragists shouting us down or demanding the thread be closed simply because we dared to discuss Hogan being tradable for the right price. Now you are doing the same, despite nothing from anyone outside of the media. Not your finest hour Wise.

Might only be 2 weeks away from serving up a big slice of humble pie to a few on here, as much as I'd rather not.

Um, I think there is more to this than we would like to think.

"Garry Lyon and Paul Roos don't believe the Demons are driving the Jesse Hogan trade. But believe the star forward has changed his mind."

Gary also said the calls he made today seem to suggest all this noise is real.

Pick 6, 9, fut 3rd rd for Hogan and a 3rd rnd is my early guess

There's "floating the idea" then there's saying "he's not very good and we'd be better off without him."

I've never been open to trading Hogan before, but I didn't know Weideman would be BOG in a final (and he'll become an exceptional key forward) and who knew McDonald would become a 60 goal capable key forward ?

I'd still prefer he stays, but if the deal is right it could potentially even improve us.

I'll back the club to make the right decision.

I agree with this. If true, what we could get in return could and should improve us.

But... are we basing all of this trade speculation on Jon Ralph, Denham and a Facebook "quote"? Or have a missed something?

This thread has gone off tonight and Demonlanders are [censored] their dacks for it. Nup, he's gone. It's over. Accept it, Wise. Jeez, you're holding onto it, Wise. You're delusional. [censored], [censored], [censored].

Unless I've missed something, there's not much more than there usually is RE: Hogan to Freo.

"Reportedly", is the key word.

My point was the shouting down some posters received a couple of weeks ago for discussing Hogan's trade value and whether the club and Hogan could be open to a trade.

As an aside, what's the difference between being open to a trade and wanting to be traded?

Plus he has a nasty foot injury. We know how those go.

Jesse has crack in his navicular and this is a notoriously difficult injury to fully recover from.  Let's say Freo is waving 6 years x $1M at him - I bet that insurance looks very attractive.

On the other hand MFC has Viney, Stretch, VDB and Hogan all with foot problems that create a lot of uncertainty.  Maybe we want to manage some risk and are not enthusiastic about competing with that Freo offer right now.

I can see this influencing the market.

It's just rubbish to say Hogan is below average in the pace stakes.  I've always thought him above average for a bollocking key forward.

This from when he was drafted:

At 195 cm and 97.4 kg, Hogan ran a 20 metre sprint at the recent NAB AFL Draft Combine in 3.02 seconds - regarded as midfield standard. He also ran the three km time trial in 10 minutes 20 seconds.

To be fair I should've put pace last in my list of concerns because it's not a big one but I'm not convinced by that number that he's anything more than average. I'd like to see a stat on career running bounces, properly quick players run and bounce the ball, I can't ever remember Hogan doing that.

Altogether my point is he's not taller, faster, a bigger leap, a better kick or a better pressure player than the very best key forwards. He's a very good player with a lot of improvement still left in him but I'm just not convinced that the way he burst on to the scene as a 20 year old means he'll be off the charts good for the rest of his career.

Let them say it. I don’t read into it at all when players say the usual rhetoric regarding their future.

It’s annoying when people were coming on this thread and in their case for Jesse staying would say things like “Jesse is going no-where, he loves the club and said last night on Talking Footy how good the club has been to him” that’s bull [censored]. Doesn’t mean anything but people take it as gospel and think they can use it as a good basis for an argument here.

And then there’s saying he’s definitely staying based on some stupid generic PR.

That's a good point.

Most of the seasoned heads here lived through scully, of course. Crash course in PR crap.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
