Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Fremantle you have embarrassed Jesse Hogan's value if you stoop so low and you are looking for a bargain basement you  might find something you like at K Mart. You mistook David Jones for K Mart. Sorry Freo you took the wrong turn!

HEAVE HO AWAY WE GO WHERE WE STOP WE DO NOT KNOW.

Come on Dees! convince him to extend his contract.

Freo, having recruited some good young mids to play alongside Fyfe, now have the chance to set up their spine for years to come with Hogan and Lobb both keen to play there next year.

They proceed to treat both players, and their respective clubs, with total disrespect.

It sends a bad signal to any player who wants to go there in the future, and will turn off clubs when dealing with them in the future.

Horrible stuff from a poorly run club.

I'm pleasantly surprised that all of the criticism for this shambles is falling on Freo and Bell.

The fact remains MFC have publicly shopped an A grade contracted player only for him to be rejected by his long time suitor - in and of it's own this would have been the worst potential outcome when first considering this move.

Yep. That's what happened. FMD

I don't like to always use the draft pick value system to make a point, but pick 5 is very valuable, especially in this draft.

Gibbs was picks 10 and 16, which on a value basis is less than 5 and 23.

But yes, I get your point.

Things can't always be exactly how you want them and sometimes you make decisions based on net gain and your prospects as a footy club.

It would seem that the whispers I heard a few days ago were correct with regard to the situation within Freo. I had not heard, however, just how badly they were handling the possible trade.

If as I heard, they were not 100% committed to making the deal, they should have walked away without making a silly offer that was never going to be accepted. It has done their reputation no good what so ever.

From the statement Bell made, the only reason they made the offer was so they could say "well we tried and Melbourne wanted too much". In the broader football world, all the other clubs understand what has transpired.

I think Melbourne has been very transparent with the way they have handled the situation. Hogan wanted to explore his options and the club, with a clear understanding of  what he has been through over the last few years, agreed to allow him to look around. that agreement came with a clear indication that if he wanted to move, we would need to get fair compensation.

This is out in the public forum. What was never stated in public by Hogan or his management is that Hogan wanted to be traded to Freo at this time. I believe that this is significant.

Melbourne has come out of this with it's reputation enhanced and this will stand us in good stead in the future, not only with other clubs but also with players.

I do not think there will be any further discussion on a possible move to Freo this trade period.

It will  be very interesting to see what the response is from the club and Hogan in the medium term with regard to a possible contract extension.

Do not be surprised if the club gets the May deal done.

Nobody is going to want too deal with these [censored]! And players won’t want to go there... Someone in purple is trying to be a hard arse pumping his chest!

If that’s you Peter Bell it ain’t working! You need to take your cape off and suffocate yourself immediately!

Who is the fella who took over from Lloyd. He seems to be another [censored] in the gun who is going to ruin this club!

I would love if Cerra and Brayshaw told them they want out and back to Victoria and won’t be signing on any further...

Perhaps this is fantasyland talk (but hey isn't that half of what DLand is all about!) but this could perhaps end up being a similar spur on that Dustin Martin got when he shopped himself around. It of course depends on the character of the bloke but he can choose to make this a positive for 2019 and beyond by saying to himself, "screw Freo for stuffing me around", recommit to us and come out fit and firing for next year ready to prove he belongs in the competitions elite.

It's also on his teammates to make sure in no uncertain terms they are glad he's still with us, and try to make him more of a Demon.

Late to the party here but apparently we would've done the deal for 5 and 23. What in the hell?! What happened to our price of two first rounders?? Contracted, a generational key forward tracking better than superstar key forwards of the past, plus 5 years of development under his belt. And we were happy with 5 and 23...?

In an era where Bryce Gibbs and Adam Treloar are worth two first rounders. Cannot believe how quickly we folded on his currency and bloody relieved the situation fell apart and he's staying put. No way should you trade a player like Hogan unless you get value in return.

I'm all for "fair trades" but that's just getting bent over for the highest tradeable commodity on our list.

Right at this time it's hard to have any respect at all for Fremantle. The Age has reported that Fremantle assured Hogan's manager that pick 6 would be included in a deal for him and that was then promised to Melbourne. MFC may not have even entered into discussions if this was not promised. If this is the case they have gone back on their word to Jesse, they have stuffed everyone around. I find it hard to respect anyone like that.

Ahhh I didn’t say I respected how they have gone about this... I said i have more respect putting themselves on the line than for the purples of the world.

At the end of the day it is going to be very difficult for Hogan to waltz back in, on a temporary status  for 12 months, maybe he’s been taken for a ride by his manager and Freo, or maybe on the couch is the right place for him.

Bryce Gibbs was definitely not worth two first round picks (10 and 16) at age 28. They paid way overs because they were blinded by losing a GF and thinking this was the trade that would be the difference in 2018. Plus there were a bunch of other picks swapped that meant Adelaide got a future 2nd and 3rd rounder as well (picks 21 and 40), so that equates to better than pick 16 and dilutes what they paid. Still too much.

Treloar is a good player who hasn't missed a lot of games through injury. They paid overs to get him, but not excessively. He was 21 when traded, so had a lot left in him.

I'm not denying Hogan is a talent and a bloody good player. What would I pay? A top 10 and a 2nd rounder. A demand for any more and I'd walk away. He's 24 early next year and has a history of injuries. Foot injuries are often persistent and can be career ending. See Eric MacKenzie.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
