Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Farewell Jesse Hogan

Hogan staying is by far the best outcome for the Dees. Jesse is a gun, he is well on the way to being a generational forward. We were always going to be a weaker team next season if Hogan left even with May and another first rounder. Further the rule changes are to Hogan’s advantages.  Life just got a hell of a lot easier for the power forward.

With Weeds coming of age the Dees have the luxury of moving Tommy into the backline on the rare occasion we come up against 3 power forwards like WC. Alternatively we can play 3 power forwards or move JH into to midfield. However, most likely is the endless rotation of the forwards including Gawn like we saw last season. This confused the opposition and continuously allowed the Dees to find a mismatch in the forward 50.

The footy gods have smiled on us. The rule changes are a massive advantage to those who have dominant ruck, clearance and power forwards. They are a massive advantage to the teams that are already very offensive. With Jesse we can win the Premiership next year. In fact we should be favourites. Richmond’s poor clearance work will be a bigger disadvantage with the new rules.

I agree someone said to me today how can dees have hogan, McDonald, weideman and potentially preuss/gawn combo up forward, I said the new 6-6-6 helps us enormously, get a quick clearance and good luck stopping all 4 of those and with a couple of crumbers in spargo/Garlett and track and milkshake, will be interesting to see how teams combat this I think 3 talls and 3 smalls is ideal for the new rules, maxy might not need to float forward much can do what he likes

Freo had 6 and will get 5 for Neale.

If Neale is traded they would have had both picks.

Freo chose to get rid of 6.

If I'm not mistaken..the disposal of 6 allowed them more picks to facilitate not just the potential Lobb deal but other targets.

This is what I meant that in order for all the deals to happen they wouldn't have two to give us.

I can't agree.  And I fail to see any profound "objectivity".

So Jesse goes to the club and says, "look, my preference is to return to WA if you can get a deal done".  We say, "sure, Jesse, but if we can't we're going to play you in defence for the next 5 years".  "You'll not only be happy about it you'll also be signing a new long-term deal."  "How does that sound ?"  "But but I'm a young gun key forward !"  "You were, Jesse, you were."

I'm not buying what you're selling Old, and I sure as hell don't think Jesse is either.

Lever went for picks 10 and 16.  Picks 5 and 23 are better than picks 10 and 16, although some of the nuffies might try and argue otherwise.  Try and get the deal done.

And there's a synergy with pick 23, which a few years back Taylor turned into Frost, Stretch, and Neal-Bullen.  I'm very confident Taylor can unearth a 150 game player with pick 23, or potentially even turn it into a lower pick.

We'll agree to differ.

Hogan will never be a defender. He does not play like one, his defensive pressure is poor, he has a turning circle like the Queen Mary and his second efforts are non existent. He is simply not agile enough. Put him down back with Oscar? I don’t think so. Poor old Nev would have to cover both.

A gun forward who could kick 100 placed down back for team balance playing on forwards with half his capability. Hogan would be delighted! How to demotivate a player in one move. Your playing at CHB this season son for reasons of team balance.  That ok? Don’t worry you will still get 850k per year.

Take it for the team!

See..that's spin..

We are happy to take a first and second round pick.

The reality is we were never really expecting 2 firsts because as many deduce given what everyone is trying to accomplish there just wouldn't be 2 firsts available to do this deal if others done. I'm pretty confident Josh knows this only too well.

Exactly.

Not uncommon for negotiations to start with ambit claims from both sides.

We ask for 6 & another first rounder, they offer 11 & a second rounder. They should have eventually got to a median position of 6 & a second rounder. Therefore we get what we want ..May. They get what they want .. Hogan.

But they decide to sell pick 6 for some reason that escapes me, they don't have the 5 they were expecting and they have nowhere to go.

Just plain amateurs who have outsmarted themselves.

If they manage to get pick 5 I think the deal will still happen. Only because we are a professional outfit with a clear outcome in mind.

Like everyone here, I was a Hogan fan.

But his seemingly non-committal approach to the club always irked me. He seems to lack passion for the place - and that, to me at least, is an important intangible that our more important players simply have to possess.

That he has now requested a trade to Freo, means that I can no longer get excited about the bloke - it’s as though he’s merely treading water in the red and the blue.

I’d be super happy with May and a top ten pick for him.

Rubbish.

May and another first rounder used or traded for an existing player would have more impact overall on our team next year. Include KK, Pruess and Toby Bedford and that list quickly becomes the AFL team to beat over the next 5 years.

Stick to the riddles mate.

Not sure I agree with that.

In his statement, Bell made it crystal clear that we were asking too much for Hogan, without actually saying exactly what it was. We have all been hearing "2 first rounders", and that plays into his story perfectly, and gives cover for any supposed nefarious reasons.

I for one cannot stand the "I know something but I wont tell you" crowd, and suspect that people are simply trying to make a name for themselves.   edit(Hmm, if Chook in perth is saying things, there may be something to it)

Hogan is still a Dee, and while very disappointed about missing out on May, Hogan is still quite a player.

He is not "still quite a player"  he is a hell of a lot better than that! And May is no worlbeater. His game against Dees recently was awful and he is a hothead

club should leap in and offer Jesse a new minimum three year contract.  I am delighted by this development

Look, it's not just Nixon questioning Hogan.  Karl Langdon has done it and even our own Chook from Perth said he was worried about defamation if he revealed what he knew.

Clearly, there are significant off-field issues being discussed about Hogan within the AFL community.

Are they true ?  Is there substance to them ?  I don't know.  But it doesn't help our hand at the trade table.

But, by all means denigrate anyone who repeats them, as is the want of supporters who don't like such things being said about one of their players.  Better to denigrate the person retelling what they hear than think anything like that could possibly be true.

Nixon, Langdon or 'Chook from Perth' hardly comprise the AFL community.

One an outcast the other a big mouth with little of substance to say, just a peg above Brad Hardy who should just about be on cue to open his mouth again.

I wouldn't give you "2 Bob" for the thoughts Nixon or Langdon.

'Chook' is a different story, a good poster with a record to match.

...but I'm not sure he was pointing his remarks at Jesse or certain people/culture within the Freo footy club. He was a bit cryptic as he should have been.

Tom Browne also inferred there could be off-field issues.

But look mate, it doesn't matter what you think of these individuals I don't believe they've simply made things up.

They've been told.  So, in essence, whether they're flawed individuals or not, it doesn't matter.

No, Mahoney said Jesse came to the club and said he'd like to return to Perth if it could be orchestrated.

As mentioned above, there may be solid reasons for the Freo withdrawal.

In life, you cant keep missing pitches when it's your job not to.

Looking forward to Wednesday arv when we can put all of this behind us.

Where's the actual quote for that?  On the club website:

"He's got to make up his mind whether he wants to leave," Mahoney said.

Which means that it was not a simple request to return.

A reminder not to post rumours, innuendo and the like, whether it's true or not.

Even alluding to something without explicitly stating it can you get you and Demonland in legal trouble.

They also have the potential to hurt Jesse and the club.

All such posts will be removed.

"I saw it on Ricky Nixon's twitter account" is not going to hold up in court.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
