Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

In the debate regarding getting May even at a low price for Hogan, I expect many of us may be like me and have paid no attention to GC games over the last couple of years. So I'm ignorant of May's capabilities despite pouring over the May Cheeseboard thread.

If he signs a long term deal over the summer then I'll be happy.

However, if we can only hold on to him for another year and he bolts for West Coast, and we have missed out on May, then I'll be slightly disappointed.

I'd love this to fire up Jesse for a big season in 2019. I think our club has handled this very professionally and I reckon Jesse will see that too.

What does it take for your to elevate slightly to just plain disappointment?

It just doesn’t sit with me that they’d

chase Jesse for the last 6 years including before he was at Melbourne

offer him a truckload if cash

get him over there for the tour for four hours

get his hopes up, finally convince him to join them.

And then only low ball us but make an offer they know we won’t accept and refuse to budge. It’s insulting to us and especially to Jesse.

This is absolute amateur hour from the freo people.

I reckon this is the little man's last ditch effort to get us to accept unders for Jesse.

It is classic walk away and bluff. I'm not sure Freo can afford to do it though, because if we don't budge, Freo look very ordinary on paper next year.

Agree with most of that. From any time he's been interviewed he's clearly not stupid. In fact I'm guessing one of his problems is he's a bit too smart for his own good. Seems a player for which footy is a job more than a huge passion.

I just wish we rested him when his form was slipping in the latter half of the year. Might've prevented an injury or got on top of one early. If anything it would've been a mental reset. Apart from beating up a few bad sides he was all out of sorts and that can mess with relationships at the club and confidence. Who knows? Pure hypotheticals but maybe Freo offered him a truckload of cash mid year and he's spent the last 11 weeks worried he's about to leave.

I was definitely among the chorus of people wanting us to rest him against some weaker opposition. As you say we’ll never know if it would’ve made any difference with his injury, might’ve just prolonged the inevitable. I’m terms of him getting an offer I reckon the moment we put him on ice Freo contacted his manager.

Its seemed like a seasonally regular thing, the weather starts to turn and Freo make an offer to him. I really wonder how he must feel that finally it could’ve happened but Freo botched the deal. Would surely leave a bad taste in his mouth.

I'm still not convinced it's over, but if it is so be it.

I'm left with the feeling that Hogan really is a strange unit.  He came to the Dees at our lowest ebb.  He sat in the stands and saw 2013.  He's seen us evolve and grow into a prelim team and just when we're on the precipice of long-term success he wants to go to a bottom 6 team during his prime years.

Not only is Hogan a strange cat I wonder if he's as thick as a brick.  I wonder what drives him.  Maybe he's not the competitive beast I'd hoped for.  Clearly, he doesn't crave a flag.

If 5 and 23 is on the table between now and Wednesday I'd personally do the deal.  Unlike some others I think May would structurally make us complete and almost the flag favourite in 2019.

I've been a massive Hogan fan, but he seems NQR to me.

not often i will come close to seeing eye to ye..but about 90% of that rings true

sorry for the interaction.... go back to your dormantry  by all means

Barrett called Rosich and Bell novices and out of their depth. Operating in positions they are not familiar with and wasting everyones time (AFL community).

While he may be correct I find it galling a bloke like Barrett who would never be considered let alone doubtful he’d put his hand up for a role like that is critical of them.

I have more respect for someone who is willing to try and fail than someone sitting on the sidelines pot shotting.

Alarm bells went off when Bell initially used the phrase 'feather in my cap'. In other words, it's quickly become all about him and not the outcome. Now Hogan's worth significantly more than pick 11 (even taking into account my obvious bias) but the problem is that Bell is more interested in being seen as the smartest guy in the room. The deal won't get done because of an over -inflated ego and whilst in may or may not be a setback for us short term, it's a problem for Freo in the longer term.

Best post in thread RTG. Absolutely spot on.

Small man syndrome at its worst.

Where is he going?  Surely the Freo bridge is burnt now.

I get that this saga has pi55ed you off, but there's an opportunity to get around him and make him feel at home.

If he wants to go home and the pull of home is strong enough, he'll get to the Eagles IMO.

Otherwise, I wonder if this process has tarnished his feelings of Melbourne too and a fresh start somewhere else could be another possibility. That puts 16 other clubs in the picture, but more likely clubs in the fight for the flag.

I haven't put thought into it.

Unlike some, I don't get too hung up on draft picks and who won a trade and who didn't.

Hawthorn haven't had a top 10 draft pick for about 13 years.  We have our ducks aligned and for me May completes the team.  Others don't agree.  Great.

Can you stop talking sense, it doesn’t make for fun reading. Need more comments like “i’ll be livid if...”, now that would be juicy to read.

Seriously though, I’ve found myself agreeing with you a lot through this process ?

and rightly so... Barrett going hard on Bell and Rosich and saying that they are out of their depth and they are a joke.

I didn't think I'd get this type of dialogue between Barrett and Wallace and agree with most of what they are saying!

There a link/pod cast to this discussion by any chance?

I reckon we are fine in terms of how we handled it. I can only go by what is out in the public eye, but it sounds like Hogan instigated it, we supported it but said we are happy to keep him if the right offer doesn't come in, which it didn't.

I think the club, from what I can tell, has handled it superbly so far.

I'm not sure if they make their shows into podcasts. They occasionally post clips to social media so if I see this particular discussion on Freo I'll post it here.

not so cryptic. I thought fairly bland.

"There's a magpie in the Woodpile".   It should not be in there, causing us mischief.

The Pies wanted May, til they dropped out and had to resign Moore... around that same time, just before More's re-signing... it became fairly common knowledge that May wanted to come to us.

We were into Ed Langdon, but Freo started to send suitors away... enter Tom Langdon into trade conversations... and Freo became interested, according to rumours..

Eddie would like nothing moore than to swipe deWeide from us.

Weide's contract ends next year... and we have not yet re-signed him, as far as I'm aware.

Eddie will not have give up this year on May.  Or on Weideman.

Right at this time it's hard to have any respect at all for Fremantle. The Age has reported that Fremantle assured Hogan's manager that pick 6 would be included in a deal for him and that was then promised to Melbourne. MFC may not have even entered into discussions if this was not promised. If this is the case they have gone back on their word to Jesse, they have stuffed everyone around. I find it hard to respect anyone like that.

Could it be Pies to clear Tom Langdon to Dockers to join his brother, on condition they pull out of Hogan deal, leaving them with an extra pick and being the only suitor for May.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

    OOZEE by The Oracle

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
