Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

don't think he got much of a pay rise at all if reports are to be believed and melbourne certainly would have offered him more for an extension.

agree, the family bit is a little odd, with mum (and her family) in adelaide and jessie's 3 siblings having a gap of 12 years on him.

so that leaves his mates and lifestyle in perth?  i dunno.

Maybe there's more to him leaving than we know dc.

Many of the reasons seem to defy logic. The main one for me is why leave a well run club on the way up for a lowly club with limited delivery inside 50?

I dunno either.

Freo has history with Croad and Tarrant.

This is where it’s important how you part ways with a player. If heaven forbid it didn’t work out you’d like to think he would prefer a return to us over 3rd club. Dayne Beams is a great example.

I see Jessy went missing from the profile pic pretty quickly though Dr.

Probably just as well, would have rubbed salt into my wounds every time upon sighting it.

Somewhat understanding of the scenario for all parties, but I can't help feeling that Jessy was the next David Swartz/Jonathan Brown/Scott Thompson type generational gun player that the MFC has just lost.  If we win a premiership, I'll probably care much less, but both would have been better.  Also because we recruited him as an 17 yo, he felt truly like one of ours.  Could still hope he does a Beams I guess.

It really annoys me that people have a go at the disappointed posters.  Hogan is a generational player, he held our aspirational hopes for a long time and we became attached to him.  I can't believe there is anyone not sad to see him go.  Those knocking the disappointed are just jerks.

I wish him all the best and I will not knock those that are disappointed but I want team players who want to bleed for the jumper and their brothers in it. It never felt like that was the case with him.  My view is we will be a better functioning team as we showed without him later in the year and I would not be surprised if his best football has already been witnessed due to physical and mental toll. .

Remember that the gun player you wish for Taylor to pick up, needs to actually be available at that pick.

Granted, he has been amazing with his choices thus far, but we still rely on other recruiters missing the mark.

That is true. But if this draft is deep, and granted there are many key position players early on - Taylor could have a quality mid in store at 23 and 28. Who knows? But he is in the position to do so now. Our needs are met. Taylor can afford to waste a couple picks on footballers who get passed up. If the draft is deep, I am thinking Sloane, Parker and Beams type players. Well built footballers who could immediately make an impact.

There are some players and player managers that are complete nuffies that would put out some really disrespectful stuff.  I thought the message came across as pretty genuine and classy.  Photo is a nice touch.

Must say I find this all much easier to accept as genuine on Jessies part based on the understanding that he took a pay cut and a fairly modest length of contract.  I still think we got significantly short changed by Freo on draft picks they traded, but also acknowledge that it may have been the best all round result we were ever likely to get in the circumstances.

Definitely handled it with more dignity than another Hogan did

Yep, never gonna knock anyone for feeling disappointed. He’s a loss, no doubt about it and deep down I think anyone who cares deeply about this club wanted to see him part of it. We had to do what was best for the next 3-5 seasons, the FD deemed this the way to go. It’s a moment in time and we have no idea how it will pan out.

Spot on....there are a lot of people close to Jessie who wished he was staying in Melb....however I wish him well as he has gone through so much as a young man, but I am SO glad Melb did the deal.

Yep, got to agree, specially seeing there might be a bit more we do not know....

I don't need to know, I don't want to know, I wish people would stop infuring this as being the case.  My view is that footballers are entitled to their own private lives to remain private.  Unless you are Jessy's, Simon's, Mahoney's or their best mate, then it's too much rumor, speculation and character assination for me.  Jessy and the footy club made the right call as far as they were concerned and that's good enough for me.

Im making a bold bold prediction here.. but i wouldn't be surprised if he comes back to the club again one day..

Has signed for 3 years, and still quite close with alot the boys. Success of the dees and enough time to heal his hurt from the family tragedy will get his heart string pulling back to Melbourne again.

I think reality will hit him sometime over the next few years just how good he had it at the dees.

Quite the opposite:  "Jesse Hogan has taken a significant pay cut to get back to his family in Perth and play for Fremantle".

It makes his decision to go to Freo even more baffling: leaves a team on the brink of success for one at the bottom, takes only a three year deal and a pay cut.  Baffling.

Its no wonder we weren't able to get a better trade deal - much easier to get top picks if player is on a long-term multi $m deal.   Mahoney did a great job getting the deal he did.

I think Jesse's foot is a lot worse than has been speculated thus far.

He was out of contract at the end of 2019 and would've needed to negotiate a new deal and/or entertain offers from rival clubs, potentially at a time where the full extent of his navicular injury has come to light.

There is definitely an element of Jesse making hay while the sun is still up for him in the sense that he can satisfy all the other off field elements he was after, whilst absorbing a bit of a haircut to his $ and years.

This is not THE reason but A reason for this trade for mine

Nor do I. Did Bennett even play with either of them?

Bennett was one of them, maybe Jakovich another? I'll look it up.

1989 semi final. Geelong 22 18 Melbourne 12.18. but only Bennett. Must be thinking if another game.

I believe Scully was planning on saying that at his presser announcing his arrival at GWS.

Rumor is that Josh Mahoney was talked out of releasing a revised version of this  statement upon the trade going down

The article in The Age suggests that Hogan has had mental health issues since what happened last year, and it certainly explains his dip in form after Queen's Birthday this season. Will miss him dearly, and feel like we were short changed (giving back pick 55 is a kick in the teeth), but its clear the club was hamstrung by a young man desperate to go home and decided that May was the man to bring in as a replacement tall.

Pick 65 is what it is (not 55) and it is not a kick in the teeth, it is a mild bump off the ball, the sort of bump that makes you laugh

The day after an I am feeling very good about this deal.   The reality is we won two finals without Hogan.   We were less predictable, We will still kick mammoth scores without him.

Adding May and Lever into the backline will be huge.   2019 is the year.

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
