Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Farewell, Aunty Jack
We know you'll be back.
Though you're ten feet tall
You don't scare us at all.
You're big, bold and tough,
But you're not so rough.
There's a scream as you plummet away.

I reckon Hogan's days at Melbourne were numbered when it became apparent we played a better style of footy when he was missing. Not saying Hogan is no good, just that we seem to gel better all over the ground when he is out. After that it was a matter of the footy department deciding what style of players we most needed, and could trading Hogan get those players in.

Agree with this.

Terrific player, but with obvious deficiencies that don't gel with our defensive manic pressure plan.

We actually didn't seem to miss him much when he was out, and if Weideman continues with the late burst of improvement, we will be a better side with him gone.

No, they're disappointed about 'pick value' that we're getting back.

Nothing else.

I'm in the other camp.

I'm really disappointed we have lost Jessie and not fussed about the pick value.

I agree with the argument that pick value is a pretty meaningless concept really. We are at the stage of needing to do much more than get best available talent - we are putting the final pieces of the puzzle for a premiership team.

May is a big part of that puzzle and i have no doubt that they have players in mind for all of their draft picks. Hopefully that includes a couple of kids with some speed and who can hit targets

On previous form they will unearth a couple of mature age gems like VDB and Hannan.

Anyone know our flag odds now ? ;)

Probably going to depend on a thorough reconnaissance of the pre-season preparations ahead, that tactical appreciation and deployment of troops whilst still keeping a rebound force in abeyance, just in case. We have more depth - that is for sure - and we have some key pieces of artillery to soften resistance. It bodes well, I'd say in double time to that of the 2018 season, SGTMAJ.

I'm relieved. I would’ve liked to get more than May plus pick 23 for Hogan (given that he's a marquee player), but I think this will improve our team structure/balance – and that’s what this is ultimately all about.

As an aside, Hogan always irked me. He was a perpetual fence sitter, a hedge better – in short, he never seemed to truly commit to the cause. And he looked super dopey.

On the other hand, Sam May is as hard as a box of nails. I think I love him. The KK bloke will be a rocket ship - his DNA goes back to the super effective Russian Kalashinkovs on the mid-1950s. He will be a great addition.

To sum up – a sensible trade. Hogan was never going to extend beyond next year, we knew that and we took control of the situation. Our defence next year will be impenetrable. Plainly, we have every other area of the ground well and truly covered.

I look forward to seeing Goodwin lift the Cup next year. Meanwhile, Hogan will be hanging out with his bozo mates at some under-age music festival in Yallingup smokin’ Winny Blues.

Now over to Jason Taylor to unearth some gems in the draft.

Go Dees.

Retract that, or I'll rip yer bluddy arms off! Thin Arthur could really write them, in those days.

If anything makes you feel proud about supporting this great club the way they’ve handled all that Jesse has been through since day one has been nothing short of amazing.

His decision coming from the Melbourne side of this was extremely emotional and difficult for him simply due the enormous support he’s received!

Devastated to see Jesse go but it’s also great that he’s finally back home with his family and hopefully smooth sailing from here and a great career for Jesse at the dockers

I am gutted about Jesse leaving and not because I think losing him will ruin our premiership chances or anything like that – it is possible we are a better chance next year following this trade – but more because of the sentiment of losing a player like him.

He was for all MFC fans, the great white hope that finally delivered. After years of failed drafting and players leaving, this felt like the one that would help us turn a corner, and he did. Though of course it was not Hogan alone, but he certainly was an integral part of it. We became an attractive club because he promised talent and showed it too.

I wish Hoges all the best in this next phase of his career (but not to Freo as they are a bunch of garden gnomes). Thankful for the memories and that he stayed as long as he did. It is hard not to be angry losing a player of his calibre but cannot underestimate the feeling of home and the pull that it has – he has done what he and the MFC inevitably had to do.

Removing 'Hogan's Hangers' as  quarter time entertainment will save countless lives.

Come to think of it, this replaced Howey's hangers....... seems any player that has entertainment named after them leaves.

Perhaps we run Kennedy-Harris hangers next year?

This deal is very disappointing for mine. Feels like the gravity of Hogan's exceptional attributes have been forgotten just because they became surplus to the team.

I can't say I'm excited about the net outcome for us. But totally understand why a lot are, and the reasoning by the FD. The pressure is now on to make the trade worth it.

I thought something sus after the last games against the Swans. Some bad  body language and attitude issues there in that game. Someone must have said enough is enough.

Really disappointing to lose Hogan. I reckon he could have become our highest ever goal kicker and dominated the comp for the next 5-7 years.

Anyone down playing his value can only be trying to make themselves feel better

Not much the club could have done though as he wanted to go home.

It was his choice to go.  Hard to keep a player that wants out.

You do the best you can in that situation.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
