Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Excuse my ignorance, but is this the first time Fox have broadcast this?  Not that I can imagine what 'this' is - a bunch of reporters talking in hushed tones outside closed doors?

Yes it’s the first time it has been televised.

Hopefully another team sweeps in and offers overs for May.

Then we would not be so desperate to get Hogan out, and Freo would have to pay 5 and a future first rounder... Oh the look on Bell's face would be priceless

It’s funny that you say that, I almost feel the same way. The only reason we’ve really entertained this farce of a trade deal is because of May being open to coming to us. Take him out of the equation and all of a sudden we go cold on trading Hogan and Freo have to decide on what they’re open to giving up.

I’m so over this year’s trade period, this has just been so frustrating.

Think that either Port or Adelaide will be tied up here, both have lower first round picks that they want to move higher.

Reckon Bulldogs Pick 7 is as high as they'll get.

Suns will be happy with 2, 3 & 5, Carlton wont trade 1, Saints want one of the Kings, so wont trade 4 and Port have 6. Nothing more to see....

I can see both sides of this.

JH is a top level talent. Top end KPF don't grow on trees and are worth something. Two high 1st rounders? Not for me. Looking at the whole picture, 5 and 23 seems reasonable.

On the other side, I can see the potential problems. He is 1/2 way through his AFL career (8 of realistically 15ish years) so you are buying a 1/2 empty glass of champagne. His foot injury is of a type that is potentially career ending if it goes wrong. With that, would I pay the reputed $8Mill over 8 years? Again, no way.

Over this whole trade period Freo are doing what Essendon were doing a few years ago. Talking up their players and demanding way too much while down valuing outsiders and offering under. As a KPF that Freo desperately needs, on the surface Hogan is a more valuable commodity than Lachie Neale. But he is a higher risk proposition (see foot). That evens up the respective values somewhat.

I also agree with some on here that there are a whole bunch of deals that have been done in all but name, and the AFL are just sitting on stuff to make the 'live' broadcast more exciting.

Im not sure Hogan is more important than Neale is to Freo. Everything starts in the middle which is where Neale comes into it.No good if Hogan sits inside F50 while Freo have traded away the most likely player to feed Hogan the required ball.In the end Forwards only kick goals because of the Mids.

Interesting point you make here. At the time of each trade from EFC (Mekly and Hibbo) i thought Dodo was asking for overs, and that we buckled WAY too easily. I thought our list management team bent over and took it while the Dons laughed all the way to the bank....

The trades were : Melksham: traded to Melbourne for pick 25

Hibberd    : traded to Melbourne with pick 59 for picks 29 and 68

As i said, at the time i thought we paid too much, too easily. History has shown since then that either i know less than i than i thought, or our team knew more than i gave credit for. Obviously it was both. How many of our supporters would not do those trades all over again? It also shows that Dodo, for all his bad reputation, probably has a good handle on the value of his players.

I wont be happy if Hogan goes for nothing more than pick 5, and will still be disappointed if its pick 5 and a solitary second rounder. This time though, at least i am sure that our list management team know a LOT more than me.

Time to show our guys some trust. Reckon they have earned it.

I made a general warning to all posters re: antagonizing, baiting, trolling etc. I gave you a private "friendly" warning regarding this. Consider this a public still friendly-but-cooling-a-la-Fremantle-to-Jesse-Hogan-in-your-humble-opinion warning.

No dramas Boss. Trust you’re applying your authority consistently across the forum membership. Been on the receiving end myself of some fairly unsavoury insults merely for expressing an unpopular/minority opinion.

Just to proffer ANOTHER opinion and most likely a highly unpopular one, here goes.

If we lose Hogan & gain May tomorrow it is likely that Mahoney accepts terms that are viewed by both MFC members and outside supporters as Melbourne receiving 'unders' for Hogan and Melbourne paying 'overs' for May. This would be justified inside the MFC as being in our premiership window for the next 3 years. Whilst I think our window may be longer than that, Mahoney clearly has the permission to trade Hogan and go get May and he will be the man responsible, in the heat of the moment, deciding on what terms are acceptable. In my opinion, the Lever deal last year provides an indication that Mahoney will look to get a deal done, even if the terms aren't viewed by outsiders as 'good value'.

For those of us wanting a 'good deal' when viewed in the light of transacting like players and the exchange of draft value points, the best outcome is likely that nothing happens tomorrow. Next year, offering up Hogan with West Coast as a possible suitor and without Melbourne being dependent upon making another trade happen, the 'pure value' for Hogan is likely to be higher.

There are important contextual factors that will shape tomorrow's events beyond the value of any individual in isolation. I'm guessing these deals happen and many of us are shocked at the values involved. I hope not. I think Mahoney backs himself and wants to be aggressive irrespective of 'perceived value'. I'm playing the man in this case. It is anyone's guess now.

So effectively looks like Hogan for May, KK & pick 23.

If that’s the way it lands, I’d hope we’d look at some of our picks to move up into the 1st round. Pick trading can continue all the way up to the draft this year.

FWIW, John Ralph on tonight's "Trade Lowdown" (Fox) said that the parties involved in the mega deal involving Neale, Hogan and others, were still locked away in discussions at 7:00pm.  He seemed fairly confident that the deals to get done.

Trading Hogan for May is still a disgrace. MFC always get shafted in the deal, sick of it.

I'd lol if May got suspended during the finals and missed a potential GF.

The bombers totally bent us over in the Melksham/Hibberd trades didn't they? And we got robbed trading up the draft to nab Oliver and Weideman. Plus Adelaide are riding high with those draft picks they acquired for an AA defender with born leadership qualities.

Have some faith for Christ's sake this administration has earnt it

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
