Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Farewell Jesse Hogan

One of the best posts for a while. I think anyone who wanted to keep Watts should be banned from even commenting on this trade board. Just goes to show that some supporters are so biased and get so attached that they can't see the forest for the trees and overrate their own players. Watts was never going to succeed at afl level.

Thats a bit over the top. I didn't want Watts to leave, but I accepted that it would probably end up being best for him and the club to get a change of scenery.

It's also completely incorrect to suggest that Watts hasn't succeeded at AFL level, you don't get to play 170 games over 8-10 years in the AFL and call it a failed career.

Jack Watts isn't the first or the last number 1 draft pick to not live up to the hype. But he seems to be the one that has been scrutinised more than most.

well argued Hemingway but personal services contracts have rarely been enforced in any industry as no one wants a disgruntled employee. What is done is that you have them stand out of the industry for 6-12 months but even that is fraught with difficulties.

You could have an AFL imposed condition that you must stand out for half a season. Any longer and it would almost certainly get struck down as unenforceable. Even half a season might be too long.

Of course the AFL likes the movement of players.. it's the clubs who hate it.

A useful iteration thanks DJ.

I suppose my main point is that recently we have had a whole string of ""go home"" reasons and if devalues the importance or even relevance of a contract, unless you have the application of basic minimum standards.

Despite your comments, unless you have some consequences for breaking a contract, the latter becomes just a memorandum of understanding without any legal force.

Perhaps the Kelly case is more to the point where you have a club and its supporters envisaging a 2019 season and beyond with a gun player and then overnight he's gone.  Geelong have reason to feel cheated irrespective of the reasons.

I agree, but I think it says more about our salary space or 'strategy' more than anything else.

the Kelly case worries me a little in that it could be an instance of a player going for the money. Sure there is the go home factor but there is no doubt that the WCE offer for 2019 will be more than his Cat's contract.

I applaud players following the money as they have very limited careers but perhaps there has to be some limits.

Now if Kelly came out and said any overs for 2019 would be donated to an indigenous charity then my skepticism would be abated somewhat.

and the other 70 odd games?

Using Schwarz (even when spelt incorrectly) doesn't add any weight to your argument. I've heard a lot of ex-AFL players saying that even playing one game, or a single season is a significant achievement. But you know what who cares!

However tying the fact that those people who post on Demonland and supported keeping Jack Watts to whether they are entitled to post in this thread is poor.

Jack might not have turned out to be the player you had hoped, but to suggest that he has had a failed career is just wrong. It's just an opinion, and in MY opinion, a poorly judged one!

The fact May has just said he is happy to go to 'Any Victorian Club' means we are in competition for his services and will need to give up pick 5, should we receive it.

Doesn’t sound too promising for the Dees does it ...

(From AFL.com.au)

"He’d (May) be happy to come to Melbourne (city) if something was found," Gold Coast list manager Craig Cameron told AFL.com.au.

"It’s up to the clubs now that are pursuing him to come up with something. At this this stage they haven’t."

"If they come to us with something around Steven then it might be tied into that, that’s a fair way off as I said."

Obviously. As has been said before why would Gold Coast not expect a top 5 pick? They are most likely to finish in the bottom 4 next year with or without May. As he is a FA next year they could expect band 1 compensation. If anything pick 5 could be them accepting ‘unders’ this year.

If we trade pick 5 for May, I'd love to see the GCS go for Rozie, Lukosius and Rankine then smile and give Jason Cripps the bird on draft night!

Given the Saint's interest in King likely at pick 4 it could happen!

Did he had any ideas on what we’d get for Hogan

The way I read it is that May's camp has said that he wants to be traded, and GCN are saying to all clubs we are listening.

They still know that Melbourne probably the best option based on having the best picks to offer and want the player. May would just be waiting for the Neale deal to kick it off... not really that much in the statement.

I began listening to his report a little late so I only caught the part about May and how Pick 5 will go through a few hands in the next day or so.  Nothing about other picks involved in the Hogan deal, although he may have discussed it at the beginning, which I missed.

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
