Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Completely agree. Really a wierd article . This little excerpt says it all

"Hogan stands to make approximately $900,000 next year at the Demons so a jump into seven figures is not overly significant, but the Dockers began to smell a rat when Melbourne then came and asked for two first round selections as well."

I mean what did they expect?  Jesse has been greedy in going for that length of contract...but Freo could easily say to his manager "nope its strictly 4" without getting into ANY haggling with the MFC itself.

That's not a rat you're smelling Belly. You're a small man, your nose is too close to your date!

I know nothing of the journos you mention.  But they don't have to be "out to get MFC" to promote our adversary's cause.  They just have to be sucking up to someone at the other club.  I doubt if many of them have any devotion to truth.  They are in a matey culture.

They also just want a story out every day... and especially at trade time, this is there Melbourne cup week!!

They only need to “verify” it from a source or a contact at Freo for them to run with it.

quite.

but don't forget there has been a big change in management at freo very recently

This is significant.

As you imply any in-principle agreements happened before Bell started his job.  On starting he naturally asks for a trade update, doesn't like what he sees, delves deeper, still doesn't like it and stops everything.

Upshot - tries to keep Neale and not so keen on Hogan.

That is fair enough and to be honest I wouldn't give any player with a foot injury 8 years either, regardless of the $$ he wanted.

As we now know, the problem is so many other deals are dependent on Bell making decisions.  Analysis time is over!

Quite a big development that no one is talking about - we want 5, 23 AND 30.

I confess that for me that would be a lot closer to what I would be comfortable with us accepting, especially given Jason Taylor’s track record thus far.

But this whole contract talk confuses me, surely the way it works is prospective club makes offer/deal with player, player confirms he would be happy to move under those terms, and then the two clubs negotiate a trade.

I do not understand Freo and their attitude to trading at all. (mind you I don't think I want to)

Hogan has 1 year left on his present contract.

Asks us if he can explore his options with Freo.

MFC agree on the understanding that we would need to get fair value in any trade at this time with Freo.

Hogan and Manager meet with Freo.

Freo do their due diligence ( I would imagine this would include a clear understanding of Hogan's expectations and those of the MFC)

Freo announce that they will no longer be looking at Hogan as they cannot meet MFC trade requirements (no mention of the contract requirements of Hogan and his management and an inference that there may be some unspecified problems)

Freo meet with Hogan on Saturday after Bell's announcement that they are no longer interested

Been reported that MFC would accept 5, 23 & 30

Given all that I would say that there is not a lot of goodwill between Freo and Hogan and hos management or between Freo and MFC.

As negotiating strategies go, Freo's approach is more than very strange.

The $8m/8 year story combined with John Ralph’s piece in today’s Herald Sun really make you wonder why we shouldn’t keep Hogan for 2019 with the objective of keeping him at the club for the longer journey.

The caption accompanying the Ralph article on p54 of the Herald Sun had Hogan’s stats down as elite for disposals and groundball gets inside 50 and above average for marks, marks inside 50, goals and score involvements. Together with the tale of the high price tag suggests we can work on him if the Dockers aren’t willing to talk turkey at our required price of picks 5, 23 & 30.

But crappy journalism exists in all area's of news, but it doesn't mean its due to manipulation or secret relationships, or even favouritism. It's just an opinion that may be way off.

EDIT: having read the article i see nothing wrong with it.... where's the problem?

It’s hard to know where to begin. Firstly it is not a description off the trade taken from multiple angles, it is a press statement from Fremantle siting only their view of why they are behaving like idiots. Next it does not logically hold water, as others have mentioned, how did the deal get to club to club negotiations without them having an in principal agreement on the contract. That just doesn’t happen these days, before tings even progress to the club that holds the player the purchasing club and player have a deal in place. Next:

A Hogan trade is not dead in the water, but it appears Melbourne will have to buckle first.

The substance of the article is that Jesse’s contract length is the killer what could Melbourne buckling doabout that?

The whole article is just a PR statement from Freo. I am not saying that the journalist is biased, just lazy and more like a PR agent than a journo

How angry would people be if we just agreed to say pick 5 and pick 30

the outcome effectively being hogan for may & kolo

I mean I think it’s worth accepting unders to increase our chances of the 2019 premiership at this point.

I read it as though Freo were not prepared to cough up that much money, that many years and those high picks. And therefore Freo called the negotiations off. And that they would offer Hogan the 8x8, but not give up the draft picks.

I could very well be wrong, the article was ambiguous. Having thought about it more, it is a poorly written article, but that doesn't mean there is not a lot of truth in it.

“A Hogan trade is not dead in the water, but it appears Melbourne will have to buckle first”

Why the hell should we buckle? He’s the best young KPF to come on the market for years and we want proper compensation for him, plus he’s contracted.

That plus the “smell a rat” line has just added bizarreness to an already weird trade discussion.

I find the timeline interesting in that Hogan met Freo after they withdrew their offer. Is that when the Hogan camp asked for 8 years, 8 million as an FU Freo, pay up or shut up?

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
