Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

What I find distasteful is Freo's reference to discontinuing the 'due diligence' process, implying there is something wrong with Jesse or his character.

If there is something wrong don't make an offer.  If there isn't, don't infer something that people then start to claim he is 'damaged goods'.   Rumours take on their own 'fake news sort of truth' that then need to be disproven.  In a way it becomes guilty till proven innocent.  An impossible catch-22!

I don't know what is behind this talk of 'damaged goods' or if there is any truth in it and I don't really care but this campaign to besmirch Jesse's character to drive his trade value down is extremely unpleasant.

Whoever he plays with, I hope he does a Dusty (after he was rejected by other clubs a few years ago for being 'damaged goods') and shows everyone his mettle and becomes the star he is capable of being.

Dont you KNOW how these things are played out?  You ACTUALLY believe all the public media drivel ?

Clubs ,Players all have their little public announcement soundbites ready.  Sometimes you actually just stay shtum.

COme on SWYL  i know your cleverer than that.

I believe the statement put out by the MFC

Let me spell it out for you.

Freo have no ammunition, that is why they traded pick 6 out; to get extra picks to meet their minimum trade obligations.

Unless they trade Neale they can and could not offer any more than they already have. For them to get Hogan they have to trade Neale.

They only have picks 11, 23, 30 ,49, and 81.

This whole scenario portrays the power of the media. They keep hounding until they get what they want - new Prime Minister - AFL coach losing contract, Hogan leaving MFC and on and on and bloody on!

Keeping Hogan would not be the end of the world. Who says he'll just leave at the end of 2019? So might Oliver, or Gawn or Petracca. No one knows - yet the media hypothesize. Mud-rakers and morons like Sam Maclure.

Replacing Hogan with May would strengthen our backline but would do nothing for the forwards. What if T Mac or Weideman sustains an injury? How would our forward line look then? And Hogan is 4 years younger than May!

At least the backline will see the return of Lever during next season.

At one stage this season commentators were speaking volumes of our 'twin towers' up forward - T Mac and Hogan - and what a huge advantage they gave us over most other teams. How has this changed of late?

To win matches you have to kick lots of goals - we did this very well most weeks. Why change a successful formula?

What if Kennedy or Darling get injured ?  What if Lynch or Riewoldt get injured ?  They happen and you deal with as best you can.

When Hogan comes to you and says he wants to explore moving home with one year on his contract only a dope wouldn't try and get the best deal possible.  You can't keep players that don't want to be there and you can't make best practice decisions on the basis someone might hypothetically get injured the following year  You try and construct a list as best you can to deal with those scenarios..

Very responsible of Ricky to throw mud at Hogan's reputation like this. Wouldn't he have loved it if it had happened to one of his players when he was a (semi) respectable member of society.

Hogan and his manager will be over the moon seeing his value on the decline because of this.

The man is a Grub!

I doubt his words will impact Hogan but awful nonetheless

But you must know that also is spin...it's just birdcage lining or fish wrapping at best.

No I'm not one to particularly believe the lecherous Ricky.

That said there are many elements to this which fly in the face of what we generally understood the situation to be.

Which particular statement by the club ?.. there's been a few...and the position has changed ( publicly )

All of this points to angendas....and they don't match the advertised program.

Look, it's not just Nixon questioning Hogan.  Karl Langdon has done it and even our own Chook from Perth said he was worried about defamation if he revealed what he knew.

Clearly, there are significant off-field issues being discussed about Hogan within the AFL community.

Are they true ?  Is there substance to them ?  I don't know.  But it doesn't help our hand at the trade table.

But, by all means denigrate anyone who repeats them, as is the want of supporters who don't like such things being said about one of their players.  Better to denigrate the person retelling what they hear than think anything like that could possibly be true.

Not sure I agree with that.

In his statement, Bell made it crystal clear that we were asking too much for Hogan, without actually saying exactly what it was. We have all been hearing "2 first rounders", and that plays into his story perfectly, and gives cover for any supposed nefarious reasons.

I for one cannot stand the "I know something but I wont tell you" crowd, and suspect that people are simply trying to make a name for themselves.   edit(Hmm, if Chook in perth is saying things, there may be something to it)

Hogan is still a Dee, and while very disappointed about missing out on May, Hogan is still quite a player.

I don’t think the MFC are spinning. I think we are happy either way to have Jessie or not. You must factor in his family issues.

I think all other parties are spinning.

Jesse passed a medical then they offer rubbish.

Hogan staying is by far the best outcome for the Dees. Jesse is a gun, he is well on the way to being a generational forward. We were always going to be a weaker team next season if Hogan left even with May and another first rounder. Further the rule changes are to Hogan’s advantages.  Life just got a hell of a lot easier for the power forward.

With Weeds coming of age the Dees have the luxury of moving Tommy into the backline on the rare occasion we come up against 3 power forwards like WC. Alternatively we can play 3 power forwards or move JH into to midfield. However, most likely is the endless rotation of the forwards including Gawn like we saw last season. This confused the opposition and continuously allowed the Dees to find a mismatch in the forward 50.

The footy gods have smiled on us. The rule changes are a massive advantage to those who have dominant ruck, clearance and power forwards. They are a massive advantage to the teams that are already very offensive. With Jesse we can win the Premiership next year. In fact we should be favourites. Richmond’s poor clearance work will be a bigger disadvantage with the new rules.

In some ways we have been to open. But i think that is Josh being a good operator.

We have put a price on Jesse and it has been knocked back  2 first round picks is a fair price for a 23 year old forward, who can play.

Frankly after the many ways they have stuffed up this trade period, Freo have zero, or negative, credibility

They would probably be better trading Lyon for Neeld.  And that is how bad they have proven themselves.

this

the only caveat i'd add is that speedy wingmen / ball-carriers like gaff, polec, jj, etc. just became worth their weight in gold

The premiership is not reliant upon Jesse. Might be just me but the club's view is we are better balanced and structured without him....hence they are NOT seeking to replace like with like.

Seems many are just trying to find him a role to keep their fav player.

Forward ...back...on the wing.. anywhere...just keep Jesse...

It's hilarious.

Get the job done Dees

See..that's spin..

We are happy to take a first and second round pick.

The reality is we were never really expecting 2 firsts because as many deduce given what everyone is trying to accomplish there just wouldn't be 2 firsts available to do this deal if others done. I'm pretty confident Josh knows this only too well.

Freo had 6 and will get 5 for Neale.

If Neale is traded they would have had both picks.

Freo chose to get rid of 6.

Disagree.

I should clarify.  We're better with both May and Hogan in the team and Weideman at Casey.  But as that's not an option I really do think we're structurally far better off with May at FB.

I see a flag with May at FB and I can't with Oscar, Frost, and Lever as the key tall defenders.  I accept others disagree.

Freo have been into Jesse for years. If they really wanted him, they would pay.

If Jesse was 29 i would agree with you, but he is not, he is 23 and not even peaked yet. He is worth 2 First Roond picks, particularly now that th “Hands in the back rule” is gone.

You are prepared to undersell him to just get the deal done.

The MFC realize he is an asset, if you want him pay up. The Shockers threw rubbish

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
