Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Farewell Jesse Hogan

Bryce Gibbs was definitely not worth two first round picks (10 and 16) at age 28. They paid way overs because they were blinded by losing a GF and thinking this was the trade that would be the difference in 2018. Plus there were a bunch of other picks swapped that meant Adelaide got a future 2nd and 3rd rounder as well (picks 21 and 40), so that equates to better than pick 16 and dilutes what they paid. Still too much.

Treloar is a good player who hasn't missed a lot of games through injury. They paid overs to get him, but not excessively. He was 21 when traded, so had a lot left in him.

I'm not denying Hogan is a talent and a bloody good player. What would I pay? A top 10 and a 2nd rounder. A demand for any more and I'd walk away. He's 24 early next year and has a history of injuries. Foot injuries are often persistent and can be career ending. See Eric MacKenzie.

It's a bit like the real estate industry though. Whatever someone is willing to pay becomes the price everyone else has to pay.

Adelaide may well have overpaid, but it sets precedence and sets the value of other players high. Particularly, a player who is a KPF at 23 years of age, consistently kicking 40+ goals in a rising side. Hogan is worth two first rounders every day of the week. 5/6 and 10-15.

How?

Would have to be a player of good potential and quality. If we ruthlessly wanted to address a defensive deficiency then perhaps a particular midfielder or half fwd/mid would have to be in the deal. We already traded Tyson so I just don't see us taking one more out of the middle.

While he may be correct I find it galling a bloke like Barrett who would never be considered let alone doubtful he’d put his hand up for a role like that is critical of them.

I have more respect for someone who is willing to try and fail than someone sitting on the sidelines pot shotting.

Does that mean all the posters on Demonland should never appraise player or coach performances?

I don't like to always use the draft pick value system to make a point, but pick 5 is very valuable, especially in this draft.

Gibbs was picks 10 and 16, which on a value basis is less than 5 and 23.

But yes, I get your point.

Things can't always be exactly how you want them and sometimes you make decisions based on net gain and your prospects as a footy club.

Not supporting the Gibbs trade (they paid too much) but it wasn't simply picks 10 and 16 for Gibbs. Adelaide also go 2018 picks 21 and 40. And gave up 2018 pick 28, expected to be much later as Adelaide were expected to finish a lot higher.

Time for Goody to sit down for a serious chat with Jesse. I'd be telling him that we rate him and want him to sign on long term, but our fans have been waiting 55 years and all we care about is a flag. There is no room for egos or mercaneries at MFC

Commit long term (at least 2 year extension, so 3 more years) or we'll have to start planning for the future without you. That means games into Weed and no room for you in the forward line. Jesse was All Australian CHB in juniors as a17 year old and I actually think it'd be good for him, no time to sulk as a defender.

The evidence available seems to suggest that pick 11 wasn't going to get the May deal done, if that's the case I don't see how Collingwood can get a deal done for May either. He should be available as a FA next year and Jesse will still be tradable, though OOC just like Lever last year. We should still get a reasonable return for him. We haven't burnt May and I see no reason he wouldn't come to us next year.

Say what you like about Jesse, strange cat and all that, but he's a serious talent on a football field and he has demonstrated runs on the board as a defender.

The worst outcome for us in this scenario, IMO, is Jesse signs long term. Still a fantastic result. We would be rolling the dice with our defence next year but Lever makes it better. We'd also have to find a way to accommodate JH, SW and Tmac in the forward line next year. At a time I think we're hoping to play Gawn forward more next year as well, with Pruess spending maybe 40-50% of game time in the ruck. We'd be unbalanced going into next year but still well in flag contention.

Late to the party here but apparently we would've done the deal for 5 and 23. What in the hell?! What happened to our price of two first rounders?? Contracted, a generational key forward tracking better than superstar key forwards of the past, plus 5 years of development under his belt. And we were happy with 5 and 23...?

In an era where Bryce Gibbs and Adam Treloar are worth two first rounders. Cannot believe how quickly we folded on his currency and bloody relieved the situation fell apart and he's staying put. No way should you trade a player like Hogan unless you get value in return.

I'm all for "fair trades" but that's just getting bent over for the highest tradeable commodity on our list.

Yeah, what a bunch a of [censored]!

I guess the only defence is that NOTHING HAPPENED!

At the end of the day it is going to be very difficult for Hogan to waltz back in, on a temporary status  for 12 months, maybe he’s been taken for a ride by his manager and Freo, or maybe on the couch is the right place for him.

Freo, having recruited some good young mids to play alongside Fyfe, now have the chance to set up their spine for years to come with Hogan and Lobb both keen to play there next year.

They proceed to treat both players, and their respective clubs, with total disrespect.

It sends a bad signal to any player who wants to go there in the future, and will turn off clubs when dealing with them in the future.

Horrible stuff from a poorly run club.

Passing up the opportunity to land Hogan, and overseeing the departure of Neale - pretty much puts paid to any chance Fyfe may of had of tasting success in his career. Sandilands will depart at the end of next year, and with no guarantee Darcy will make it as a ruckman, that could very well leave Lobb to carry the load. Freo will still need key backs and forwards. Hogan is probably the last home grown forward to fit their need, and they just passed up on him for a reasonable deal. It is just a disaster for Fremantle IMO. If I were Fyfe I would be asking for a trade this week.

Whatever happens with him staying with us for the very least next year Goodwin and Co need to sit down with him so everything can get out in the open. Tell him where/how we are going to use him next year, talk to him about his importance to our desire for a flag, and tell him we want him long term.

Seems Freo are positioning themselves to finish on the bottom next year.
Terribly poor management.

Their supporters should be livid, but are probably celebrating like they've had some sort of great victory.

    DEPTH CHARGE by Whispering Jack

The jubilation on the coach’s face as he danced a celebratory jig by the playing bench after the final siren sounded to record his team’s four-point victory over the Demons when the teams last met, said it all.    On that rainy Friday night at the Adelaide Oval, Ken Hinkley’s young midfield secured much more than four points on offer. The victory over one of the big dogs of the competition after a succession of wins over some of its lesser lights gave his team respect and validation fo

They opened up the rooms to let Casey out to play on Sunday but the team was still hibernating and they missed the bulk of the opening quarter. A FORK IN THE HAWK by George on the Outer

For too long in the past, Demon fans became habitually sick and tired of watching the Hawks hand out thrashings to their side. But Melbourne’s empahtic 55-point win at the MCG on Saturday has truly put a fork in the Hawk and turned that history well and truly on its head. The Demons have now won nine of their last ten encounters with the other result, a draw.     And like a fork, it was the multi-pronged options that Melbourne had all across the ground.  It certainly helped that Hawthorn
