Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Peter Bell is a very smart man, he knows that he has to look like taken the hard line approach but also knows he can't walk away from this trade week with just Lobb, he wants Lobb and Hogan to show the Footy world how good he is.  His Ego will play into our hands at some stage, he wants two prized recruits to create some hype around the Dockers for 2019

Don't disagree, but I would argue that he is coming in armed with very little information, and as you indicate a fairly large ego. Coming out and saying it would be a 'feather in his cap' to turn the exit of Neale around.... ?? Really?

I think more damage was done prior to Bell's appointment with Rosich effectively rubber stamping a few odd list decisions that now Bell is trying to unpick.

Well they only had 6 and 81 and want Lobb and Hogan so that's a problem. So they did a deal for a bunch of picks including 11 and 23 with Port who want an early pick to get access to the highly rated SA players in the draft.

So they could low ball the Hogan trade with '...sorry, we don't have a top 10 pick...' and if we agree to their low ball trade or variation thereof, 5 minutes later turn around and accept pick 5 for Neale and keep it for themselves.

...and they traded out next year's 3rd round pick so they can say '...sorry, the rules forbid trading out a future 1st round pick and a later future pick...' and be unwilling to use the tools available that might get the future 1st round pick back into play.

They are playing dirty pool!

Thank you both for your replies.

I would of thought if they traded Neale for 5, then 5 and next years first round for Hogan, then 6 for Lobb and a GWS pick of some description this whole this would be done. It’s almost like they’ve stuffed themselves for both trades now.

Note : I’ve been with no reception since this morning so just catching up with the latest.

There is method to Bell’s seeming madness. His endgame as drdrake mentioned a few posts back us to get both Hogan and Lobb in the door. Freo have close to the worst forward set up in the competition at present and these two coming in will get the Freo fans very excited. This is the real “feather in cap” Bell wants to exit trade week with, not Lachie Neale. The tough talk about keeping Neale is just bluster.

The lowball pick 11 and 23 offer for Hogan may have seemed pointless but the tactic there is to frustrate Melbourne and also waste our time, with the aim of softening us up to accept pick 5 & 23 at the death in the final day of trade week. Bell knows we would MUCH prefer picks 5 & 11 for Hogan but he needs to retain pick 11 to secure Lobb from GWS. So he is banking on us growing impatient, getting worried by Wednesday that the whole thing is going to fall through, and just signing off on the 5 & 23 deal.

As soon as the Neale domino falls Mahoney is going to be faced with a reasonably hard call to make. Accept 5 & 23 for Hogan or reject it and make Jesse play out the final year of his contract. Not sure what I would do personally, it’s a tough one.

Bell is banking on us tiring of the whole Hogan saga and just being happy to move on, get our man May in with pick 5 going out to Gold Coast, and sucking up the fact that we’ve received unders for a forward we - to be honest - haven’t made a huge effort to retain.

Pugnacious, annoying little [censored] Peter Bell. But he’s no dill.

On the other hand we could completely ruin his life by holding on to Hogan and giving Simmo a call over at the Eagles about a deal for Jesse next year! But would that be in our interests? They will probably have a lot less to offer us than pick 5 & 23.

I think Freo might have us snookered here.

Just to add a post from the rumour file in regards to jayden hunt in brisbane (probably [censored]) - was thinking earlier about sending something to Brisbane to get the Neale trade done for overs.

MFC In: Bris pick 5, Bris 2019 1st round Pick./  Out: Hogan, 2nd or 3rd round pick*
Freo In: Hogan, Lobb. / Out: Neale, Pick 11
Bris In: Neale, Hunt. MFC 2nd or 3rd round pick / Out Pick 5, 2019 first round pick
GWS In Pick 11. / Out Lobb

Edit: Might seem like overs, but Freo want more for Neale than Bris have. They want 5+15, not 5+23. Bris now give overs for Neale but get back a player and pick

Good post. I think you may be right but I think Mahoney wouldn't settle for pick 5 and 23. I think if its not 2 first rounders then Mahoney would ask for another pick in the 30s to make up for the imbalance. So hogan for 5,23 and 30-something.

Jesse wants to return home to WA. Rumours of “another club” are very flimsy at this stage.

He has done everything possible to extend his 'value' mythology in cruise control about his commitment to the MFC. In some ways, it appears that Hogan is the greatest obstacle to team cohesion and its ultimate success for which we are striving in the upcoming pre-season preparation and - if he stays - 2019. It appears that if we make the deepest end of the finals or greater he then reluctantly would have stayed - earning hundreds of thousands of dollars for the sacrifice - but is under no illusion indicating that he'd prefer to be elsewhere in the mean time. A fair day's pay for a fair day's work is not in his mantra.

Wow. Big statement there...

They could just as easily be pains in the butt to GWS and offer pick 23 for Lobb.

11 is overs for Lobb especially as GWS have said they are looking for a mid - teen pick and are desperate to dump salary.  Sydney gave away Hannebery for peanuts (#39 +/-) for similar reason.  I reckon 23 + sweeteners, will get Lobb done with GWS.

But Bell seems to on an ego trip and will get more local kudos if he lands a 'big fish' (Hogan) cheaply than Lobb cheaply.  So he toys with us.

I don't trust Freo.  I hope that Freo have snookered themselves.  Jesse is a contracted player so he stays.

I'm thinking Brisbane are on the losing end of the stick, so i edited in our 2nd round pick of 38*? to them

Getting pick 5 + potentially pick 5-8 next year and losing Hogan, 38 and Hunt seems about right.

Not too sure about Freo really. They get Hogan and Lobbe. Success.

We could convert pick 5 into 8 and 13 from Adelaide and trade pick 8 to GC. It places Adelaide ahead of PA at pick 6

Perhaps this is why Bell is holding out for more from Brisbane for Neale. He thinks he can get Lobb and Hogan in AND hold on to pick 11.

That would be a huge win for them.

JM and MFC should have no issue with keeping hogan for next year. His value will go up as I’d expect him to play a full season and kick 60+ goals. Hogan is a professional and us exploring options which is within his rights to do

If the deal doesn't get done, Bell gets to say "hey guys, we had a once in a generation chance to snaffle a desperately needed key forward, but I let it slip through my fingers because I acted like a [censored]. Can I still get the applause though?"

Whereas we get to play this same forward in our side.

Bell will come to the table when this possibility is staring him in the face as a reality.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
