Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

What would Mitch Cleary know? The media are all over the place with this one and suggests that aside from Hogan, his Manager, Melbourne and Freo the rest of us are in the dark.

I'd also suggest that Freo's 'official' offer is noise that means very little.

One of four things will happen:

1. Jesse stays at Melbourne

2. Jesse is traded to Freo or another team, most likely in Perth

3. Jesse signs an extension to remain at Melbourne beyond next year.

4. Jesse retires

So would Freo make an offer if Jesse didnt want to go there?

Mitch Cleary said he wants to be at Freo next year. Players don't need to come out and say anything, I'm not sure why everyone is thinking that, they can agree behind closed doors, like May would have. As I said, he wouldnt of done a medical if he didn't want to go there. Nor would Freo put in an offer if didn't want to go there. Hope is the first sign of denial around these parts (not directed at you).

I think it's been clear for a while Hogan and May are happy to go elsewhere if the right deal can be struck, but Mitch Cleary saying they've agreed is no better than Barrett saying Beams is off to Collingwood. It's merely speculation until it is actually confirmed and in this case it won't be until trades are done, just in case deals don't happen, they fall over and Hogan ends up playing at Melbourne in 2019 (highly unlikely) and May at the Suns.

"Wantaway star Lachie Neale met with new Fremantle footy boss Peter Bell on Wednesday - the first meeting between the pair.  ...Bell believed he could convince Neale to stay at the club, but he failed to do so with the midfielder remaining “adamant” he wants to head to Brisbane.

“It was Peter Bell’s belief that he was going to be able to get him to turn around and say ‘yep, I’ll stay at Fremantle’,”

Bell is living in another universe.  Well, I guess he won't get the 'feather in his cap' he was bragging about!

Good on Neale for sticking to his guns.  If he had had thoughts of staying, the shenanigans by Bell this week would have convinced him to keep running as fast as he can!

OK, I'm not answering this question again, it's getting tiresome. As I said, Mitch Cleary said it and common bloody sense would say Freo wouldn't have put him through a medical, wouldn't have put in an offer for Jesse if he didn't want to go there or hadn't agreed. And for the process to get that far all parties would have agreed to salary and terms, this is common sense, if you can't work that out then I can't help you.

Yep, but there's still a difference mate between confirmation (Martin also did a medical with GWS and didn't sign with them) and speculation based on common sense. Hogan has not come out and nominated Freo.

Peter Bell isn't exactly covering himself in glory right now.

Watch Josh Mahoney run rings around him before Wednesday is over.  Bell isn't even in the same league.

Once again, there is a difference between Hogan being open to the trade if it can be facilitated and Hogan nominating Freo. A big difference in fact.

I'm not saying the trade won't get done. I'm not even saying Jesse doesn't want to play at Freo but the fact remains he hasn't nominated Freo, so I wouldn't be posting, as you have, that Jesse has nominated Freo based on a journos say so.

... and in that article it sounds like any trade negotiations with Brisbane have Freo insisting on 5 and another first round pick, yet they think they can low ball us with Hogan.  something is seriously wrong in their headspace.

While I suspect you are broadly correct in that a player wouldn't do a medical without serious interest in moving, things may be far off being set in concrete on either side at that stage.

A club may well wish to do the medical before being too definite about terms since they may wish to make a smaller offer if the player has some potentially limiting condition. That said, the broad terms could be agreed with sufficient escape clauses if the medical discovered issues.

On the other hand I could imagine a vaguely interested player (who is tossing up options in his mind) being induced to do the medical with just arm waving vague offers from the club to 'look after' him.  If you are going to inspect facilities/get a feel for a remote place, you might as well do the medical at the same time.  While I suspect a good manager wouldn't allow that, I could easily imagine a player wanting to do it.

BTW, did Trenners have a firm offer before he met the Richmond docs?

You of all people should know that nowhere did I say Jesse had nominated Freo in any official capacity, all I said was, according to Mitch Cleary, Jesse has said he wants to play for them, the rest to me is common sense, maybe not for some.

I nearly posted a hypothetical May trade (getting pick 2 or 3 back) with the tongue in cheek comment but figured you would all think I was insane to even suggest it.

... if Jessie does go to CGS can I claim bragging rights on DL for putting it out there first ?

I have already done it. Posted on the May thread

"

Because of the Lever deal, we have nothing to trade with GC, unless the Hogan deal goes through. JM has said it and Freo are using it.

Also because JH probably will only go home, we are stymied in dealing with another club.

I wonder if we could get GC to approach him, with the help of the AFL to bump up any offer and make him one of the highest paid players in the game, on a long contract.

This could suit GC and the AFL. To replace their captains leaving, with the potential best young key forward in the game. The publicity alone would be great for them in rebuilding the club.

I wonder if Jessie could be talked into the sun and sea being a surfer.

If this could be done, we would be able to do the May, KK deal and possibly get a top 3 pick from GC, with them getting something back.

Then we are looking at Rankine or Rozee.

How good a deal could that be?

I wonder who the other clubs that are nibbling are?

If JH and us could shaft Freo, by getting a better deal, it would be magnificent.

On the other hand, if the deal goes through with Fre and we get May and KK, I don't see it being what many of us hoped for.

I can't see realistically how we can do the May deal alone and that is a pity."

I was open to Trading Hogan for the right deal, 2 first round picks but with the rule changes announced yesterday he is the ideal forward.  The CHF role will need to have a massive endurance motor as the game is being built for a fast transition from defense to forward and clubs will need hard running forwards hitting up and getting back.

For us to have TMac and Hogan with big tanks would be a massive advantage with Weiderman playing a deeper forward role

Weid is still a baby. He will develop a bigger tank and more strength (as opposed to weight) over the next 2 preseasons. I have no problem with Tmac and Weid being our 2 KPFs with help from Gawn and Preuss.

Hogan runs hard but his defensive pressure is nil.

I wonder if we have said to GC, "What can we arrange for May without the Hogan deal".

They might be working on a package as a backup, who knows,  It depends on what May has told GC.  Might be a few players we feel we can swap and still improve our list. Not that I think too many our player want to go North.

Players that aren't getting a game might go, but GC would have to want them and that is the problem.

I could nearly guarantee that we have had discussions with GC about getting the deal done without Freo, but it is extremely difficult to give something that they want, that we either want to keep, or just haven't got.

It’s concerning that Freo have such a rank amateur in such a senior position (or so it seems - anyone know his resume prior?). It would be like Mahoney trying to do a deal for one of our best players with their BigFooty board. It’s all based on some skewed ideal rather than sensible reality.

With this bloke at their helm I’m expecting Hogan to play for Melbourne in 2019 now.

The game will be that fast that you need these big hit up forwards as outlets then get the ball inside 50m where the pressure will need to be.

    DEPTH CHARGE by Whispering Jack

The jubilation on the coach’s face as he danced a celebratory jig by the playing bench after the final siren sounded to record his team’s four-point victory over the Demons when the teams last met, said it all.    On that rainy Friday night at the Adelaide Oval, Ken Hinkley’s young midfield secured much more than four points on offer. The victory over one of the big dogs of the competition after a succession of wins over some of its lesser lights gave his team respect and validation fo
