Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Farewell Jesse Hogan

Hmm, I wonder if Hogan might just be thinking to himself 'hey, self, seems like every year there is a top player desperate to leave Fremantle, and they seem like a serious basket case on field, and seems like they routinely stuff prospective players around because their ego wont let them get sensible deals done... maybe Freo aren't going to be the best environment for me to become the best player and person I can be?'

I don’t understand why the AFL media besides Damian Barrett ironically seems to be totally talking down Hogan’s value. He’s easily the best player on the move this trade period. Sam McClure the nuffie thinks wingard is worth more

Jesse has done amazing things for his age and has massive upside and potential still to be realised. But as a player in the here and now I can understand Wingard being talked up more as he’s a proven performer.

That said pick 11 and a future second round pick is insulting not only to us but to Jesse. Of course it’s posturing but if you’re playing poker you always have to be careful not to overplay your hand. I feel like they’re in danger of doing that now.

Pick 5 and 11 is what we should be saying is our final offer and stick to it. I don’t know what people are getting flustered about potentially having him on the list next year. I’m happy for us to hold onto him if needs be and who know Freo’s pathetic dealings might spur his position towards them.

Hawks have offered 15 and Ryan Burton (2015 #19, 47 game defender, 2018, 23 games) for Chad Wingard

2 x First Rounders (albeit later) but Burton looks to have improved and is ready made. Port have knocked it back.

Puts Freo's offer for JH in a bit more perspective - not that it was required

Freo quite happily took pick 2 last year for Lachine Weller, yet won't give at least pick 5 for Hogan?

You'd think the football department would be smart enough to bring this trade up in discussions, along with other trades in the past.

Some clubs want to give up nothing, but get a 5 star meal in return.

Tell em to get stuffed!

I wonder how Jesse will go playing for us next year. The narrative since he signed the last contract has been "If I was going to leave, that was the time." This has come as a shock to most supporters, if not those inside the club. How is he going to fit into our playing group when everyone knows he's not committed to the club?

I thought Hogan was constantly be chased by Freo but have offered next to nothing for him. It is like buying champagne with beer money.  Perhaps secretly they are trying to extract revenge for us giving them spud Sylvia. Perhaps they are waiting to get him for zilch in the future. Another scenario is that Jesse is trying to extract more coin out of the Dees !!!!!!

If Carlton players can accept and deal with Gibbs being out the door in a year, i'm sure demon players can too. Assuming Hogan goes all in with that final year and pumps his value, it's a win win.

Freo don't even have Pick 5 for the moment, and given how they're approaching negotiations with us, there's a decent chance that the Neale trade won't go through.

In any case, there's no way we'd ever be getting 5 + 11, best we could manage given what's available would be 11 + next year's first - though is there some technical issue which means that Freo can't trade their next year's first round pick?

http://www.afl.com.au/news/2015-08-06/future-trading-given-goahead-but-with-restrictions

Not sure if this has been since updated but it says:

  • Clubs can trade one year in the future only.

    -       Clubs must make at least two first-round selections in each four-year period. If they don't, they will face restrictions from trading any further first-round draft picks.

    -       If a club trades a future first-round selection, it may not trade any other future selection from that same draft. But if a club keeps its future first-round selection, it can trade any of its future selections from other rounds.

So by this article i would think trading a third round pick won't affect their ability to trade their first round pick too. Plus we know hawthorn got omera even though they had already traded too may first round picks. So if the AFL will bend the rules for the Hawks then this is still a viable option.

Wingard is nothing special, if Port get a 1st round pick for him they'll have done well. I'd rate him similar to Melksham/Hibberd a pick in the 20s is about right.

It says if they keep their first they can trade others. If they trade their first, does that effect a trade that's already happened? AFL will make it up on the fly.

If the Neale trade fails, then the Hogan trade fails. That’s the way I read it. Unless Freo can find something else to satisfy us with (established player of some sorts) then pick 11 as a starting point will not get the trade done.

We can and should dig our heels in.

All the noise aside, it was foolish of Freo to make that offer.

I understand they don’t have pick 5 yet, however their conduct now looks nakedly stupid for all to see. I still think a deal will be done but this & the reports that they were the source of the rumour about Beams means that every club that sits down with them will see their officials as having the word ‘nuffy’ tattooed on their foreheads.

Some of their fans will cheer their ‘hardball’ tactics but in reality they’ve tarnished their brand and can’t be taken seriously.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
