Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Say what you want, I’m proud of this club this year.

From someone at the ground today ...terrible first half but fought it out..we didn’t play well last week & I think it was symptomatic of playing finals type footy for the past 5 weeks...they were done ...they aren’t quiteready...& in a way I feel a sense of relief that it is over...I would have hated to lose to Collingwood ...just wish the first half wasn’t so bad...HOWEVER....make no mistake...this team will give us many more highs than lows & i am glad I made the trip...glad I stayed till the end & I thank the club for one of the better seasons that I can remember....before I get howled down by the “negative nellies” just ask yourself one question “ how many of you legitimately felt at the beginning of the season that we would win 2 massive finals at the G against two powerhouse clubs & make a Preliminary final? I didn’t ...can’t wait for 2019 ...

Great post and my sentiments.  Gawny is symptomatic of the team.  He looked tired against Geelong and Hawthorn and looked spent today.  He had no elevation compared to normal but has given it his all as have all the players.  They were just spent and this is a great learning experience of how important every one of the 22 H&A games are so as to make top 4. Should drive them a lot further next year.  Want Preuss so Gawny isn’t tired next September.

This is the kind of stuff I don't get.

We're just coming off two consecutive finals wins in front of 90,000+ against sides we've hardly beaten for 15 years, and you're going on about "the big stage" being the problem?

I am happy with the season as I stated in this thread. I am unhappy when we lose like we did today. You are one of my favourite posters on here.

Are you happy with today’s performance?

It was about as bad as it gets. We were beaten in every facet of the game.

Losing a Prelim Final is fair enough, being goalless and 10 goals behind at Halftime isn’t.

I'm not happy with the season. If we had of won the games we should have we would not have been in Perth today!! The season is just not the last few games. It is all year and we blew heaps of chances to have the 2nd chance and play all games in Melbourne.

C'mon man.
Not only beaten.
But humiliated from the opening minutes.
You might be pleased.
But I'm not.

Said to a mate before the game who'd been telling me we'd kill WC and then Collingwood next week.
"Everytime there's a carrot whether that be make the 8 last year, win and be in the top 4 whatever ....
We'd carp ourselves and get done."

Big carrot today with Collingwood blowing this premiership race wide open last night.

Perhaps I should have said this season exceeded my expections. You sum up the rest. But winning 2 finals is better than the wooden spoon which a few years ago was common place.

As I said earlier in the thread in season 2019 we MUST finish top four. Anything less will be a failure.

If we don’t win a premiership in the next 4 years with this core group it will be a failure also.

After 50+ years of following this club I am totally over failure make no mistake.

...and then we would have been smacked next week instead. More likely in the prelim like today but maybe at the 'G' instead of Perth.

I didn't want to post this after last weeks win as it would have been mean spirited (let everyone enjoy the win) but I honestly thought that was the end of our run for this year.

Making finals and winning 2 was where we are at...and that's a good result.

Of course I wasn't happy with how we lost today but...

We've had a really good year with what is basically a very young inexperienced list.

If they take the right message out of their experience in finals this year, pick up another couple of good players plus get Hogan and Lever back on the park then we are ready to have a run at it next year.

There's no doubt today put a bit of a dent in the season.

But there's also no doubt that the season was a raging success.

Making finals was a tick. Winning two was huge. We were like a deer in the headlights today, but in the first two finals, we were the exact opposite in terms of how we stood up to the pressure (although we were a bit fumbly at times).

As someone said in the post match thread, one of the problems today was that our finals series started in round 22 due to some poor losses earlier in the season. There was always a risk 4 brutal games was going to take its toll.

Some are saying we're not a top 4 team. I genuinely think we're somewhere between 4th and 6th. But we're a step off top 3, and probably 2 steps off top 2.

A positive from today is that our deficencies are still evident. Even a close loss today may have masked that.

If its not too late, up our offer to Gaff, and risk losing a petracca in the future.

Was a fantastic season from the club.

Such a  shame we couldn't get it done today and have a Dees vs Pies Grand Final.  Would have been the biggest GF in decades.

The West Coast meth heads are now my most hated team, overtaking Essendon and Geelong.

I was posting in response to complaints that the Demons of old failed to stand up on the big stage.

Nothing to do with how I feel about the game.

Fork 'em, your comment that every time there's a carrot we carp ourselves might have been true earlier this year, but after the past month is it really that big of a problem? We needed to beat West Coast in Perth to make the finals, and we did. We needed to beat GWS to earn a home final and we did. We had our season on the line against 90,000 in the Elimination Final and we won.

Listen I’m all for the premiership or bust theory. I want a flag and nothing else really pleases me much. However to say that not winning a flag is a bust, is an absolute joke. Richmond can say that, but not us. We wanted to make finals and we did. We were hopeful to win a final and we did. We won two against experienced mature teams who have weathered this storm before. We went to Perth and we failed. It was a mammoth task against yet another very experienced team.

We do not walk away from this season as losers, even though we lost the game.

We now have a better understanding of what it takes. And we are as well placed as we have been at any time in the last decade to win a premiership.

You left out the Semi against the Hawks.

My point was we played like the Demons of old today. Do I think we are on the right path. Absolutely.

Tomorrow the sun will come up and off to watch Casey in the GF. After all tomorrow is another day.

Bring on 2019

We had a 'dog day' today, but all teams in the history of the game have had them.  Our timing was awful, but if we learn from it and move forward, all will not be lost.

Before the season I would have said:

  • Pass mark = making finals and winning one
  • Credit = winning two
  • Distinction = making Grand Final
  • High Distinction = premiership

Overall, I'm very happy with a Credit, but we must now use this as a launching pad for 2019.

Even last week, the 4th quarter probably should have been a chance to ease up and rest players. But when we let the hawks back into it, we had to fight it out.

The issue wasn't that we were in Perth. The issue was that every club in the league knows we're gettable through physicality and that we will roll over easily. If we'd have played collingwood at the G today the result would have been the same or worse. Did the players think a preliminary final might be played with the intensity of an AFLX game?

I still feel for Goodwin. Reckon he's an excellent coach and must scratch his head at whatever it is about this club that just doesn't get what it takes to be successful. 34 tackles. [censored] me. How about we let the game be decided purely on talent? If the Eagles were the better team then so be it. We didn't even go close to making talent the deciding factor. We let it be decided by hunger and once it was MFC left wanting.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. OOZEE by The Oracle

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
