Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

My Melbourne highlights from Semi Final

Maxy's fantastic mark in defence at the end. I was a bit worried for his wrist upon his landing though.

Hibberd's chase preventing a Hawk goal. If his hamstrings have been a problem they are not now.

Oliver's chase to earn a holding the ball decision.

Viney's weaving and brute strength to twist andwork his way through a congested pack to deliver a great pass to Brayshaw. What a game from this relentless competitor.

Brayshaw's fantastic mark in a pack. Pure courage personified.

Melksham's absolutely effortless left foot snap from over 50 metres to allow us some breathing space. He does this often, He is a very powerful kick.

Spargo's football brain and clever, creative play. He is so cool.

Watching all those pre bounce smiles from the arrogant Hawks players disappear as the game progressed. You could almost hear them saying 'This mob is a pushover'.

It must be great for Viney and Vandenberg to get real reward from all the rehab they did for most of the season. Those two and Jonesy must be feeling so proud at the moment. May they become even prouder still.

Hibbo’s chase was incredible. We were looking directly at him and the look on his face won’t be forgotten anytime soon. Pure determination.

Jack Viney’s chase on Gunston in the third. He was never going to catch him in a million years but the perceived pressure caused Gunston to rush the kick a bit in my opinion and hit the post. 20 seconds later Nibbler ran into an open goal.

Waving off those arrogant Hawthorn fans after receiving grief all night.

The Melbourne chant that went all around the G by the fans when the boys were standing in front of the race and waiting for Jones to finish his interview with Richo. Spine-tingling stuff.

@Dee Zephyr we were obviously not far from each other, Hibbs was just not going to be beaten to that ball. He saw the situation, put his head down and just bolted as hard as he could to put point Gunston. He was immense!

I wondered the same when you mentioned in one of your posts about security kicking out the drunk Hawthorn fan. That was also a highlight. We were M6 Row C.

You’re right, no way was Hibbo allowing a goal there.

My Highlight was that we were sitting in M3 and at about the 20 minute mark of the last 1/4 after Tmac kicked his 4th goal and then to see all the arrogant Hawthorn fairweather supporters get up and  leave. All us in the back of M3 stood up, booed them and waved them goodbye! It was AWESOME Karma!

Also, being there with my entire family to see the win - our first finals win together seeing it live!

AWESOME night!

The Viney chase wasn't just the chase of a man who knew it was right thing to do or was looking to add a speck of pressure. He was outright hunting Gunston down and locked onto his target - reminiscent of the gazelle tackle on Weller - and probably would have snapped him in half in a death-roll had he caught him at that speed. Started his run-down sprint from outside 50. Swoon.

Maybe  Gunston knew it was Jack moving in on him and he couldn't get his shot f or goal quick enough. Lucky he was wearing brown shorts.

Hit the nail on the head so well with this post. They were very much the key moments. The Hibbo chase and behind was absolutely crucial, he was easily in the top 3 players for me. Viney, although a bit off Gunston no doubt had an impact with that chase and turned an open goal into a pressure kick.

I’d also really like to add one: Melksham’s out-bodying of Sicily and mark and then kick to T-Mac for a clunker! It was right after Melksham’s goal which was great but I still felt momentum was with Hawthorn, this was the moment we wrestled it back in my opinion.

This.

Plus the goal resulting from Frost's kick out from the goal square.

Frosty's monster torpedo kick-in from the goal square early in the 1st quarter which precipitated a classic lightening passage of play resulting with the 1st Demon goal of the arvo and re-setting the tone of the game.

It was the chant that bought tears to my eyes. So far the supporters have matured as well as the players. Most other teams think our support is weak. The noise levels have been brilliant.

Big fight in the MCC members M45 in the first quarter. Security guards (overseas lads) just stood there until 4 police came charging down. Massive man (Hawthorn supporter) escorted out with such a wild look in his eyes. Melbourne chap allowed to stay. If a member, will have a decent ban, however, if a guest I wouldn't want to be the member who bought him in.

My highlight was the crowd. Years of beliitlement and pain all of a sudden now belief and pride.

We have the highest attendance of any finalist on both weekends. Who said the Dees couldn't draw a crowd?

Bobby and Dee got the special moments right.

Three stand out.

1. The dees' determination and desperation in the chases, tackles and hunts.

2. Spargo's footy smarts and silky skills in a first year player. A true rover for the ages.

3. The CHANT. It was thrilling.

Go dees.

I must say I was very pleasantly surprised that the maggot didn't call it a block (as they did to Melks - was it the Power game?) which neither clearly were.

And I loved the commentator (was it BT?) on 7 prattling on about the great torp but how the Hawks were going to capitalise on it .....sudden silence as we frenetically swept it forward for a goal.

So just maybe we will now "have earned" a few more Friday and Saturday night games than Carlton and St.Kilda.

Still, it is Gillon and his pathetic band of acolytes who make the call, so I won't count my chickens yet.

Was in the back of my mind too, glad they swallowed the whistle!

Can't remember who called it, might have been Bruce because after he took it Bruce was saying how much he'd stepped up in the last.

That Frost torp set the tone for the night. And the crowd WOW. Don’t tell me we are a small club, there are too many supporters tucked away in greater metropolitan Melbourne just waiting for the revival to start - and it has, in the jargon of the marketing suits “the Melbourne Football Club has become very sexy”, Max, Viney, Brayshaw, Tom McD are among the most sellable players in the AFL, and games like last Friday nights did us no harm at all.

When exactly was the torp, I keep missing it on the replay?

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
