Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

I can’t see there being any change but if someone where looking shaky in the team I would say it’s Tyson, he just doesn’t seem to handle the heat of finals footy and either turns it over or gets caught very easily.

His inside grunt work has been good though and he did some important second efforts. He didn’t disgrace himself by any means but if I was looking at a player potentially to be dropped it would be him.

In terms of who comes in, it’s not like for like but Vince could come in if the club were satisfied he was good to go with the rigours of finals footy. Very tough either way.

If we can get a repeat of round 22 mate it’ll be pretty epic.

Gonna be tough with JK and JD back in their line up but I reckon we’re a solid chance.

Agree that we’ll come up short if we stuff about with the pill as much as we did last Friday.

They'll be worried about Viney.....

Just sayin....

Haven’t oksted for a while, and I would like to think my mail this year has been pretty spot on, as my source is very reliable.

Hunt is a big, big chance to come in this week, for Tyson most likely. Want his pace and run for the big ground.

not a certainty, but very possible a this stage of the week.

Interesting.    Would have Joel Smith in ahead of him.

Sorry Bing, but Smith just doesn't do it for me.

Plus Bailey is a breath of fresh air down back. He's cool under pressure and is a good kick too. At the end of the day it's not up to me........or us.

In GOoDy we Trust

Fritsch was ordinary under pressure again the other night. He's a real worry for me. If I was West Coast, he's the one I'd look to exploit at the back.

I don't want to change the team, but...

If we lose, it's because Rioli and Ryan carve us up going inside 50. We need more pace across half back to keep up. Salem, Lewis, Jetta are all awesome but they aren't fast. Having Hunt, Joel Smith (or even Garlett in a surprise lock down half back game) come in and close space might be the difference.

I would push Bailey "Robbie" Fritsch to the wing and drop Tyson in this scenario.

I think Smith for Tyson is a no brainer. And that’s possibly a bit stiff on Tyson, because he wasn’t as bad as some have made him out to be on the weekend. The important thing is we will clearly need Smiths height and speed in the back. Tyson unlucky.

As a side note - I cannot believe I’m reading a few posts on bringing back Hunt or Garlett. Bringing either of these players who have been below average all year and only serviceable at vfl level would be up there with the most ordinary selections I’ve seen in years.

I just watched the replay Rd 22

Both Rioli and Ryan cut us to shreds in the third quarter

we had no system to negate them as far as I could determine

The Dees must stop their run and carry

Ryan had 3 kicks 5 hand passes 1 tackle 1 goal for the day and the goal wasn't in the 3rd quarter.   It's gonna be hard to limit him more than that.

Rioli did kick 3.2 from 6 kicks  which was a damaging return. One goal was in the 3rd.

Maybe like BT you can't tell them apart?

When you say big ground, are you referring to the ground that is smaller than the one where played on the last 3 weeks?

I agree with comments about Frisch, he needs to move back to the wing. Smith comes in to replace him in the back half, Tyson out. Solves all our issues- these being pace and disposal off the wing and a good 3rd tall defender.

“You know it makes sense”

I’d be reluctant to make any changes.

I think the eagles will load up on talls up forward for sure but we are good enough to keep them under control. And it should allow us to rebound if they get it wrong.

Id stick with Tyson. I think our big strength is midfield depth and I think that’s where we can get on top of the eagles. The backline won’t be as big a concern if we win it out of the middle

Rioli and Ryan average 11 possessions a game, less than 2 tackles and about a goal each. I think we have them covered. Would be more concerned with Kennedy and Darling, but that relies on the midfield battle

I hope this doesn't happen! Hunt has done NOTHING all year. To come into a Prelim final having no good games or consistency under your belt is a MASSIVE risk. He has been ordinary at best in the 2s.

No offence to Hunt, but based on current form, if they pick Hunt I'll spew

Listening to Age Footy Podcast

Caro: Dees will win. Midfield too good. MFC defence well oiled machine now. Not sure WC midfield will get quality delivery to Kenny/Darling due to Melbourne midfield pressure. WCE didn't earn trust against Collingwood, MFC by 4 goals.

Bob: Demons: momentum too great, too many things going right, something NQR with WCE. Demons by 3 goals.

Gleeson: Melbourne midfield pressure brutal but Demons by 2 goals. Head says Eagles, heart Demons.

Niall: WCE too good, Kennedy/Darling better for run last week, WCE  2 goals.

I’d be on the fence about bringing in Joel Smith for Tyson due to matchups,  but Smith playing his first final in a prelim against 60,000 hostile fans? Nah

tough week for them decision wise, as we don’t really have anyone to play on the resting ruckman either.

West Coast may boast that having Kennedy back gives them an advantage since the Rd 22 encounter. I'd say we have them more than covered in the midfield and that is where the game is going to be won. Viney back into the side for this game gives us another player that will worry the Eagles, they weren't able to curtail our midfield 4 weeks ago, what makes them think they will be able to now? It's time to start believing in this Demons side. We have arguably the best contested midfield group in the comp, are the highest scoring side in the comp and over the last 10 weeks I think we have been the best defensive side also.

No change. Back the guys in that have been doing the job. It's a tough ask to win over there but this side is good enough.

Just on the Eagles supporter noise... The more I think about it the less I'm worried about the 'hostile environment' with this team. The noise is deafening in that stadium and the booing is so completely over the top - that's for certain.

But we've withstood that for two years running now and pulled away with two wins under immense pressure. This variable is now small and maybe insignificant for much of the team and coaches and I reckon the media need to realise this as well.

    DEPTH CHARGE by Whispering Jack

The jubilation on the coach’s face as he danced a celebratory jig by the playing bench after the final siren sounded to record his team’s four-point victory over the Demons when the teams last met, said it all.    On that rainy Friday night at the Adelaide Oval, Ken Hinkley’s young midfield secured much more than four points on offer. The victory over one of the big dogs of the competition after a succession of wins over some of its lesser lights gave his team respect and validation fo

    HIBERNATING by KC from Casey

When they locked up the rooms for summer at the end of last year’s football season, the rooms gathered cobwebs, the atmosphere became dense and the place developed a sleepy feel. They opened up the rooms to let Casey out to play on Sunday but the team was still hibernating and they missed the bulk of the opening quarter. A FORK IN THE HAWK by George on the Outer

For too long in the past, Demon fans became habitually sick and tired of watching the Hawks hand out thrashings to their side. But Melbourne’s empahtic 55-point win at the MCG on Saturday has truly put a fork in the Hawk and turned that history well and truly on its head. The Demons have now won nine of their last ten encounters with the other result, a draw.     And like a fork, it was the multi-pronged options that Melbourne had all across the ground.  It certainly helped that Hawthorn
